Naftali hosts trilateral meeting with Greek, Cypriot leaders

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett hosted Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for a trilateral meeting…reports Asian Lite News

The leaders talked about regional security, economy and development, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a statement issued by the Israeli Prime Minister’s office.

Bennett said common threats in the Middle East include climate change, the coronavirus pandemic, and “security in the face of terror.”

Naftali hosts trilateral meeting with Greek, Cypriot leaders

Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis praised Israel for its handling of the coronavirus outbreak and thanked both Israel and Cyprus for their support during the large wildfires in Greece last summer.

The meeting included discussions over cooperation against Covid-19, climate change, and how to be better prepared to face emergency situations, said Cypriot President Anastasiades.

Also on Tuesday, Israel and Cyprus signed a cooperation deal regarding scientific research and the technology for advancing scientific excellence in both countries, according to the statement.

Naftali urges world powers to take a hard line toward Iranian nuke talks

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has urged the world powers to “take a hard line” toward Iran in the negotiations on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal…reports Asian Lite News

“I call on every country negotiating with Iran in Vienna to take a strong line and make it clear to Iran that it is impossible to negotiate and enrich uranium at the same time,” Xinhua news agency quoted Bennett as saying.

The Israeli Prime Minister made the remark while reffering to the latest round of talks which has been briefly paused in Austria’s capital Vienna last week.

“Iran must start paying for its violations,” he said, according to a statement issued by his office.

Bennett said that Israel will continue to pressure world powers not to lift all sanctions. “We are holding an intensive dialogue on this matter with the Americans, the British, the French, Russia and others,” he said.

Bennett’s remarks came as Israel’s top security officials were heading to the US and Europe for talks on Iran.

On Saturday night, David Barnea, chief of Israel’s Mossad spy agency, flew to Washington, and Defence Minister Benny Gantz is planning to depart on Wednesday for meetings with his US counterpart Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Last week, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid visited London and Paris to discuss the talks with his European counterparts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Israeli counterpart Naftali Bennett on the sidelines of COP26 in the UK’s Glasgow on Tuesday.

In their first meeting, the two leaders reviewed bilateral strategic partnerships and expressed satisfaction over the progress made in diverse sectors. They agreed on further expanding cooperation, especially in the areas of high technology and innovation.

Recalling that next year would mark 30 years of the establishment of full diplomatic relations between India and Israel, Modi extended an invitation to Bennett to visit India.

PM, Bill Gates discuss clean energy innovation

The PM also met Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates on Tuesday and discussed ways to step up activities in India under Mission Innovation — a multinational initiative to accelerate public and private global clean energy innovations.

Meeting Bill Gates on the sidelines of COP26 Summit in the UK’s Glasgow, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the work being done by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in India.

Bill Gates briefed Prime Minister on the progress of Mission Innovation, and they discussed ways to step up activities in India under it, as well as promising opportunities in areas like green hydrogen, aviation fuels, battery storage, and vaccine research.

India, Nepal to work closely 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday agreed to work closely towards post-pandemic recovery.

The two met on the sidelines of the COP26 Summit at the UK’s Glasgow, and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation including in the context of ongoing efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic.

They noted the excellent cooperation between India and Nepal during the pandemic, particularly through the supply of vaccines, medicines, and medical equipment from India to Nepal as well as by ensuring the free flow of goods across the borders.

This was the first meeting of Modi with Deuba after the telephone conversation between them in July this year when Deuba assumed office.

PM thanks Ukraine President

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky for his humanitarian gesture of supply of oxygen concentrators to India during the second phase of Covid pandemic earlier this year.

PM Modi, who met Zelensky on the sidelines of COP26 in Glasgow, also took stock of the state of bilateral relations and exchanged views on developments in the region. They expressed satisfaction with the cooperation during the pandemic times including mutual recognition of Covid vaccination certificates by both countries.

The two leaders positively assessed the strong people-to-people connection between the two countries, especially the large number of Indian students studying in various Universities of Ukraine.
