Allu Arjun Clinches National Award for Best Actor

Several film personalities congratulated Allu Arjun, who became the first Tollywood actor to win the national award for the best actor in 68 years of the awards’ history…reports Asian Lite News

Allu Arjun became the first-ever Telugu actor to win the national award for best actor after he bagged the honours for his power-packed performance in ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ at the 69th National Film Awards announced on Thursday.

Celebrations broke out in Tollywood circles soon after the announcement, as greetings poured in for the stylish actor from all over the industry. There were celebrations at the house of the elated actor as his father and well-known producer Allu Arvind was among the first to greet him.

Sukumar, who directed the action-drama film, hugged the actor to congratulate him.

Several film personalities congratulated Allu Arjun, who became the first Tollywood actor to win the national award for the best actor in 68 years of the awards’ history.

Popular as ‘Bunny’ in film circles, Allu Arjun entered the film industry as a child artiste in 1985. ‘Gangotri’ (2003) was his debut movie as the hero. He established himself as a pan-India actor with the blockbuster ‘Pushpa: The Rise’.

The grandson of popular comedian Allu Ramalingaiah and son of Allu Arvind, Allu Arjun is also the nephew of megastar Chiranjeevi. Chiranjeevi’s wife Surekha is Allu Arjun’s paternal aunt.

Congratulating Allu Arjun, Chiranjeevi tweeted: “Proud moment for Telugu cinema. Heartiest congratulations to especially my dearest Bunny for the coveted National Best Actor Award. Absolutely proud of you.”

Leading actor Jr NTR also congratulated Allu Arjun, saying, “You deserve all the success and awards you get for Pushpa.”

Allu Arjun’s cousin Ram Charan and Venkatesh have also congratulated the actor.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy congratulated Allu Arjun for winning the maiden national award for best actor. He also congratulated Devi Sri Prasad on winning the national award for best music for ‘Pushpa’.

In his reply, Allu Arjun thanked Jagan Mohan Reddy for his congratulations.

The Chief Minister said the 69th National Awards have proved to be a bonanza for the Telugu film industry.

He also congratulated S.S. Rajamiuli for ‘RRR’ winning six awards, including best popular film.

Jagan Reddy also congratulated Chandrabose for winning the award for best lyrics for ‘Konda Polam’.

The Bombay Art Society celebrating the national award winners

Awarded 48 scholarships to up-and-coming artists at its 131st All India Annual Art Exhibition from 2,500 entries from various cities in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Haryana, Delhi, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Gujarat, the Bombay Art Society is one of the oldest non-profit art institutions in the Asian subcontinent. Sudhir Mungantiwar, Minister for Cultural Affairs, Forests, and Fisheries, Saryu Doshi, Art Historian and Former Director of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai, and Rajendra Patil, President of The Bombay Art Society, presented the prizes to the winners.

From February 16 through February 28, 2023, the artwork will be on exhibition at The Bombay Art Society in Bandra.

Rajendra Patil, President of The Bombay Art Society, shared, “The all-India annual art exhibition has been the important art event on the calendar of visual arts events in country since its beginning in 1888. This year, 48 awards to the artists from 2,500 entries in the categories like paintings, sculptures, graphics, photography along with the Bendre-Husain scholarship, The Sangita Jindal Scholarship and Sandhya Misra scholarship are presented to the young artists. It is an important event for artists in eastern and southern parts of India as The Bombay Art Society receives exhibition entries as far away as Delhi, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala from many years. This year we are honouring G.S. Majgaonkar, who started the Maharashtra Nature Art Style.”

The Bendre-Husain Scholarship went to Monica Ghule, a figurative artist, while the Sangita Jindal Scholarship went to metal artist Swanil Godse. This year, sculptor Kandula Pradeep Kumar and artist Madan Pawar are jointly awarded the Sandhya Misra Scholarship for their distinctive works of art.

Since the past 18 years, the Bombay Art Society has been holding the Roopdhar Lifetime Samman in the field of visual art. This year, G.S. Majgaonkar, one of the greatest painters, received the Roopdhar lifetime achievement award, which comes with a citation and a financial prize of Rs one lakh as a sign of appreciation. At the opening of the yearly art exhibition, G.S. Majgaonkar received the Roopadhar lifetime achievement award.

Kishor Ingale’s abstract in acrylic colour on canvas attracted the judge’s attention, making him winner of this year’s highest prize, the Governor’s Award which carries Rs one lakh in cash and certificate. The Bombay Art Society gold medal which carried Rs 51,000 cash, certificate and gold medal is gone to Siddhesh Thakur for his stunning sculpture. The artworks of Akshita Gandhi, Parimal Vaghela, Abhijit Kumbhar, Anuradha Tambe, Nagnath Ghodke, Kinnari Tondlekar and Nishikant Palande submitted for the exhibition outshine and own them various awards which were presented at Jehangir Art Gallery. This year the award-winning entries include artists from various cities in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Haryana, Delhi, and Gujarat whereas art students who won awards are from many cities in Maharashtra, Assam, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.

The BAS annual art exhibition, which debuted in 1888 and has been running continuously for 135 years, is regarded as the nation’s talent search. The best 189 artworks hand-picked from total 2500 entries submitted from all across India through highly refined selection process, including art experts at every level of selection are shown in this exhibition. The exhibition also features the artwork of the four scholarship recipients.

‘Ajay Devgn is the true hero by all means’

As his epic film ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ bagged three honours at the 68th National Film Awards, the film’s director Om Raut took a moment to thank everyone for the big win and mentioned how the lead actor Ajay Devgn is the true hero by all means.

The film has bagged awards for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, Ajay Devgn won the Best Actor award (shared) and Nachiket Barve and Mahesh Sherla won the Best Costume Design award.

Raut said in a statement that ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ was his “labour of love”. He went on to note: “The film had the wholehearted support of Ajay Devgn Sir, who not only agreed to play the lead but also took the efforts to produce it. I’m happy the film has won the Best Film Award for Wholesome Entertainment at the 68th National Awards.”

The director added: “I also congratulate Ajay Sir for his win as Best Actor in the film. He was Tanhaji in the truest form. This would be incomplete without a special mention for Saif sir whose support has been crucial for the outcome of this film. I would also like to congratulate Nachiket Barve and Mahesh Sherla, who won the Best Costume Designer award.”

He concluded by saying: “A film is not a one-man show, it is the effort of its entire team, the cast and crew are the pillars of each project. This award is for each person who worked on Tanhaji- they are all my unsung heroes. I am happy our film got commercial success and true appreciation. Awards and rewards are truly heartening.”

Expressing gratitude to mentors, family, friends and fans, actor Suriya, who jointly won the National Award for Best Actor for his performance in ‘Soorarai Pottru’ along with Ajay Devgn, dedicated the award to his children, Diya and Dev, and to his family.

Soon after congratulatory messages began pouring in on Friday, when the 68th National Film Awards were announced in New Delhi, Suriya took to Twitter to express his gratitude.

He said, “Vanakkam, My heartfelt thanks for all the love and good wishes that has reached us and enriched our lives so far.We are ecstatic with the five National Awards for ‘Soorarai Pottru’. The overwhelming reception for our film, which was released directly on OTT during a pandemic, has made our eyes well up in joy.”

“Our happiness is doubled at this National recognition for ‘Soorarai Pottru’ as it is a testimony of Sudha Kongara’s many years of hard work and creative vision of Captain Gopinath’s story.”

Congratulating other members of his team who had won the National Award, the actor said, “The Best Film Award is a great recognition for team 2D and I thank them along with my best friend and CEO Rajsekar Karpoorasundara Pandian.”

The actor also expressed his gratitude to the makers of his first film, ‘Nerukku Ner’. “I extend my gratitude to director Vasanth Sai and filmmaker Mani Ratnam, who placed their faith in my acting abilities and gave me my first film, ‘Nerukku Ner’,” Suriya said and congratulated his fellow awardee, Ajay Devgn and other award winners from Tamil Nadu and the other states of the country.

“My special thanks to my Jyotika, who insisted I should produce and act in ‘Soorarai Pottru’,” he said and added, “My love and ‘Thank You’ to all those who have encouraged my efforts so far and to my amma and appa, Karthi and Brinda, who have supported me always. I dedicate this award to my kids Diya and Dev and to my loving family.”

Looking to thank all his fans, whom he considers his brothers and sisters, Suriya said, “I share this joyous moment with all my brothers and sisters who are out there, who have shown me immense love and acceptance right through my career. My heartfelt thanks to you all my anbaana fans.”

Stating that the National Award had given him the motivation to work harder and walk his talk, the actor said that he would strive to give good films, now and always. He also thanked the government and the National Awards Jury for the recognition.
