PM Modi unveils projects worth Rs 17,000 cr in MP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday attended the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Madhya Pradesh’ programme via video conferencing and laid the foundation stone of several development projects worth around Rs 17,000 crore across the state.

Addressing the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Madhya Pradesh’ programme, Modi said, “Few days ago, the redevelopment work on more than 30 railway stations of Madhya Pradesh started. BJP’s double engine government is ensuring development with double speed. The schemes unveiled today will will bring ease in lives of people in Madhya Pradesh. More investment and employment opportunities will come in the state.”

The projects unveiled by Prime Minister cater to a number of important sectors including irrigation, power, road, rail, water supply, coal, industry, among others. Prime Minister also launched the Cyber Tehsil project in Madhya Pradesh.

Modi also expressed condolences with the families of the people who died in the road accident in Dindori district.

“I want to express my condolence in the Dindori road accident. My compassion is with those who lost their loved ones in the accident. The government is taking care of the medical treatment of those who are injured. I am with Madhya Pradesh in these difficult times,” he said.

Stating that under the BJP-led Centre, the “land brought under the irrigation doubled in comparision to the Congress-led UPA from 2004 to 2014, Modi said, “The Sinchayee Yojana is the biggest differentiator between BJP and Congress in 10 years. Before 2014, a total of 40 lakh hectare of land was brought under the Sukshma Sinchai (irrigation) whereas a total of 90 hectare of land was brought in the last 10 years. This shows the priorities of the BJP government.”

He further stated that BJP is fighting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with a “resolve to make India the third largest economy of the world”.

“For us, these elections are not just to form our government for the third time. In our third tenure, we will make this country the third largest economy of the world, with this resolve we are contesting the upcoming elections. Formation of the government is not our final goal,” he said.

Prime Minister also mentioned that several states in the country has taken a resolve to become a developed state.

“In every Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh a lot of people have joined the Sankalp of Viksit Madhya Pradesh. Several other states have also taken this Sankalp of becoming Viksit. Nine days Vikramotsav is going to start in MP from tomorrow itself. It is a celebration of our glorious heritage and present development,” he said. (ANI)

Modi to hold three public meetings in Bengal

Modi will kickstart the BJP’s campaign for Lok Sabha Elections in West Bengal from March 1.   Notably, Modi’s visit to the state in the wake of the ongoing unrest in the Sandeshkhali enclave where women recently hit the streets and vented their fury by setting ablaze the properties belonging to TMC leaders who are accused of tormenting villagers.

He will address two big public meetings. This visit of the Prime Minister is being considered very important before the Lok Sabha elections.

He will also give mantra to the BJP workers to ensure victory in the upcoming elections. On March 1, Modi will address a public meeting in Arambag and on that day he will have a night stay in the state. Apart from this, on March 2, he will address a public meeting in Krishna Nagar.

“Lakhs of people will be present in the rally,” BJP’s Bengal chief Sukant Majumdar said. Sukant Majumdar also mentioned that the Prime Minister is coming to Bengal, it is a matter of happiness for all of us and he will address the people of West Bengal. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the workers too.

Modi will also be addressing the women of the entire country from Barashat, West Bengal on March 6. BJP Mahila Morcha chief Vanathi Srinivasan held a meeting in West Bengal on February 24 to take stock of the preparations in this regard.

BJP Bengal sources said that in 2024 polls, BJP will be winning more seats in West Bengal than before. This time the figure is likely to go up to 26, however at present it is estimated that 20 to 26 seats will be won by BJP.

Overall, the BJP is very confident and is continuously engaged in its work. All the leaders and workers of the BJP are working on the ground to make people aware on the Modi-led dispensation’s welfare and development schemes in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Pradhan Mantri Employment scheme, the Ayushman Bharat upto an insurance of Rs 5 lakh, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Oushadhi scheme, the Kisan Samman Nidhi and the Pradhana Mantri Jeevan Jyoti are some of these schemes. It’s raining projects ahead of polls

The BJP-led NDA government appears to be in a tearing hurry to launch projects ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. In the last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has opened or laid foundation stones for works amounting to over Rs 10.5 lakh crore.

Modi will be visiting visiting Jammu to launch multiple development projects, including for education, railway, aviation, and road sectors, worth over Rs 32,000 crore.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the projects relate to several sectors, including health, education, rail, road, aviation, petroleum, and civic infrastructure, among others.

During the programme, the Prime Minister will distribute appointment orders to about 1500 new government recruits of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Prime Minister will also interact with beneficiaries of various government schemes as part of the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu’ programme.

Rs 13,375 crore education projects

In a significant step towards upgrading and developing education and skilling infrastructure across the country, the Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, and lay the foundation stone of several projects worth about Rs 13,375 crore.

The Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation the permanent campus of IIT Bhilai, IIT Tirupati, IISER Tirupati, IIITDM Kurnool; the academic and residential complex in IIT Patna and IIT Ropar; two permanent campuses of Central Sanskrit University – at Devprayag (Uttarakhand) and at Agartala (Tripura).

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the permanent campuses of IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Jammu, and IIM Bodh Gaya. He will also inaugurate the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) – a pioneering skill training institute on advanced technologies in Kanpur.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and dedicate to nation-improved infrastructure like hostels, academic blocs, administrative buildings, libraries, auditoriums, etc in multiple higher educational institutes across the country, like IIT Jammu, NIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, NIT Durgapur, IISER Behrampur, NIT Arunachal Pradesh, IIIT Lucknow, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and the Central University of Kerala Kasaragod, among others.

The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for multiple projects for upgrading the infrastructure in several higher educational institutes across the country. These projects include construction of the permanent campus of Sindhu Central University and IIIT Raichur; construction of academic block, hostel, faculty quarter etc. in IIT Bombay; the construction of Hostel and Staff quarters in IIT Gandhinagar, construction of Girls hostel in BHU, among others.

PM Modi will inaugurate the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Vijaypur (Samba), Jammu. The institute, whose foundational stone was also laid by the Prime Minister in February 2019, is being established under the Central sector scheme Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.

New airport

The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a new terminal building at Jammu Airport. To be spread over 40,000 sqm area, the new terminal building will be equipped with modern facilities catering to about 2000 passengers during peak hours.

The new terminal building will be environment friendly and will be built such that it showcases the local culture of the region. It will strengthen air connectivity, boost tourism and trade, and accelerate the economic growth of the region.

Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation various rail projects in Jammu and Kashmir including the new rail line between Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan (48 Km) and the newly electrified Baramulla-Sringar-Banihal-Sangaldan section (185.66 Km). Prime Minister will also flag off the first Electric Train in the valley and also train service between Sangaldan station & Baramulla station.

Rs 677 crore petrol depot

Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for a project to develop CUF (Common User Facility) Petroleum depot at Jammu. The state of art fully automated depot which will be developed at a cost of about Rs 677 crore, will have storage capacity of about 100000 KL for storing Motor Spirit (MS), High Speed Diesel (HSD), Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO), Aviation Turbine fuel (ATF), Ethanol, Bio diesel and winter grade HSD.

Rs 3150 crore infra push

Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several development projects worth more than Rs 3150 crore for strengthening the civic infrastructure and provisioning of public facilities across Jammu and Kashmir.

The projects to be inaugurated by Prime Minister include, Road projects and Bridges; Grid Stations, receiving stations transmission line Projects; Common Effluent Treatment Plants and Sewage Treatment Plants; Several Degree College buildings; Intelligent Traffic Management system in Srinagar city; Modern Narwal Fruit Mandi; Drug Testing Laboratory at Kathua; and Transit accommodation – 224 flats at Ganderbal and Kupwara. The projects whose foundation stone will be laid include the development of five new industrial estates across Jammu and Kashmir; Data Centre/ Disaster Recovery Centre for Integrated Command and Control Centre of Jammu Smart City; Up-gradation of Transport Nagar at Parimpora Srinagar; Up-gradation of 62 road projects and 42 bridges and project for development of transit accommodation – 2816 flats at nine locations in districts Anantnag, Kulgam, Kupwara, Shopian and Pulwama, among others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 2 dedicated to the nation completed projects and laid foundation stone for new ones, totally worth Rs 20,140 crore.

In his address, the Prime Minister referred to recent rains, floods in December 2023 in Tamil Nadu and the consequent losses and said he was deeply moved by the condition of affected families.

“The Central Government stands with people of Tamil Nadu in this time of crisis. We are providing every possible support to the State Government.” The PM laid foundation stone, inaugurated and dedicated to the nation 20 projects related to air and seaports, railway, highway, petroleum and natural gas, atomic energy and higher education in Tamil Nadu.

Modi praised Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant who passed away days ago as a ‘captain’ in both cinema and politics.

“I pay my tributes to him, I also express my condolences to his family and admirers.” He also remembered eminent farm scientist M S Swaminathan of Tamil Nadu, who passed away recently and said he ensured food security for the country. The PM inaugurated the new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport.

Developed at a cost of over Rs 1,100 crore, the two-level new international terminal building has the capacity to serve more than 44 lakh passengers annually and about 3500 passengers during peak hours.

The new terminal hosts state-of-the-art amenities and features for passenger convenience.

The Prime Minister dedicated to the nation the General Cargo Berth-II (Automobile Export/Import Terminal-II & Capital Dredging Phase-V) of Kamarajar Port in Chennai.

He dedicated the Demonstration Fast Reactor Fuel Reprocessing Plant (DFRP) at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research in Kalpakkam in Chengalpattu district.

Built at a cost of about Rs 400 crore, this groundbreaking facility has the unique distinction of being the world’s only industrial-scale plant capable of handling both carbide and oxide spent fuels from fast reactors, a release stated.

He also inaugurated the new terminal building of the Tiruchirappalli International Airport — Tamil Nadu’s second-largest terminal in terms of international traffic, after the one in the capital Chennai.

The new terminal building has been developed at a cost of more than Rs 1100 crore. The two-level new international terminal can serve more than 44 lakh passengers annually and about 3,500 during peak hours, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) informed earlier through an official release.

Tiruchirappalli International Airport is the second-largest airport in terms of international passenger traffic after Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

Prime Minister Modi also dedicated to the nation multiple railway projects worth crores. These include the doubling of the 41.4 km Salem-Magnesite Junction-Omalur-Mettur Dam section; the doubling of the rail line section of 160 km from Madurai-Tuticorin; and three projects for rail line electrification: Tiruchchirappalli-Manamadurai-Virudhunagar; Virudhunagar-Tenkasi Junction; Sengottai-Tenkasi Junction; Tirunelveli- Tirunelveli- Tiruchendur. The rail projects are tipped to help improve the rail capacity to carry freight and passengers and contribute to economic development and employment generation in Tamil Nadu.

23 out of 55 defence research body projects missed deadlines

Twenty-three of the 55 high-priority projects being implemented by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) could not meet the deadlines, the government informed Parliament on Monday.

The high-priority projects included developing anti-air field weapons, surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, long-range radars, combat vehicles, combat suits for submarines and submarine periscopes.

Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt provided the details in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

“Currently, there are 55 numbers of ongoing MM (Mission Mode) projects such as anti-air field weapons, solid fuel ducted ramjet technology, surface to air missiles, anti-ship missiles, long range radars, combat vehicles, high endurance autonomous underwater vehicles, combat suits for submarines, submarine periscopes etc.,” he said.

“Of these 55 numbers of ongoing MM projects, 23 numbers did not meet deadlines. Of the 23 numbers of ongoing MM projects which did not meet the deadlines, nine have undergone cost overruns. However, not all cost overruns were necessitated due to time overruns,” Bhatt said.

The minister, however, did not provide the details about the deadlines and period of implementation of the projects.

A total of 1,35,743 posts, including 8,070 at the level of officers, were lying vacant in the Indian Army as on March 10, according to data provided by Bhatt.

According to the details, a total of 19,678 vacancies were filled up between January 1 and March 10.

Bhatt said the number of vacancies of junior commissioned officers (JCOs) and other ranks as on March 10 was 1,27,673 and the number of vacancies at the level of officers was 8,070.

The minister said 19,065 vacancies of JCOs and other ranks were filled up between January 1 and March 10.

The number of vacancies filled up in the category of officers during the period was 613.

To a separate question, Mr Bhatt said the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) concluded a contract with Mauritius in January last year for the export of an advanced light helicopter (ALH) Mk III and associated deliverables. The total contract value was USD 17.67 million (around ₹ 141.52 crore).

According to the contract, the delivery was to be completed in 18 months, whereas the HAL completed it ahead of the schedule.
