BJP’s Power Trio to Rally in Rajasthan This Week

Star campaigners Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President J.P. Nadda are scheduled to visit Rajasthan this week as the party is set to release its election manifesto….reports Asian Lite News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of BJP’s election campaign will again visit poll-bound Rajasthan this week, with a huge rally in Barmer on Wednesday, and Bharatpur and Nagaur later on Saturday.

BJP party President JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah will be in Rajasthan with each addressing four and five rallies or roadshows, respectively, their itinerary document showed. While Nadda will cover the Dausa, Jodhpur, and Jaisalmer districts, Shah will visit Tonk, Rajsamand, Bundi, and Ajmer districts.

BJP President JP Nadda will release the election manifesto or ‘Sankalp Patra’ in Jaipur this Thursday.

BJP’s principal competitor in Rajasthan is Congress, which is presently ruling the western Indian state. In the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress won 99 seats, while the BJP won 73 seats in the 200-member House. Ashok Gehlot eventually took the oath as CM with the support of BSP MLAs and independents.

Party sources earlier told ANI that the manifesto may encompass relief measures for government employees addressing wage disparities, support for unorganised sector workers, and expansion of the Devnarayan scheme for religious site development.

The manifesto may also include five dozen commitments, such as free education up to post-graduation for students, and providing gas cylinders to families covered under the Ujjwala and Ladli Sister schemes for Rs 450, said party sources.

BJP manifesto committee comprises Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Coordinator Ghanshyam Tiwari, Co-coordinator Kirodi Lal Meena, National Minister Alka Singh Gurjar, former Deputy Speaker Rao Rajendra Singh, former Central Minister Subhash Maharia, Prabhulal Saini, and Rakhil Rathore, among others.

Approximately one crore suggestions and forms have been collected from across Rajasthan for the BJP manifesto.

Rajasthan is set to undergo assembly polls on November 25, and the counting of votes will be done on December 3.

Gehlot Slams Modi, Shah

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, saying that wherever they go, their job is to “mislead people”.

“Wherever Amit Shah and Narendra Modi go, their job is to mislead people, but you should not get influenced by anyone’s words. Now they do not have any issue; they are campaigning in the name of religion,” Gehlot said while participarting in ‘Diwali Sneh Milan’ organised by the Jodhpur District Congress Committee in Rajasthan.

Speaking about this year’s Karnataka Assembly election, he said that the “slogan of Lord Bajrangbali was raised a lot in Karnataka by the BJP leaders. But their (BJP’s) tactics did not work and a Congress government was formed in Karnataka,” Gehlot said.

CM Gehlot said that Rajasthan has become number one in the country in terms of milk production.

“We have worked to fulfil the 10 guarantees that we had given. Rajasthan is at number one in providing jobs to the youth; three lakh jobs were given,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister also said that Rajasthan is the first state where a separate budget was presented for farmers.

Rajasthan will go to the polls on November 25, and the counting of votes will take place on December 3.

In the 2018 Assembly elections, the Congress won 99 seats, while the BJP secured 73 seats in the 200-member House.

Rajasthan not ready to give up yet

The Royals thus put themselves in contention for the Playoffs spots as they moved to fifth on the table with this four-wicket win…reports Asian Lite News

Half-centuries from Yashwasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal followed by Shimron Hetmyers’ stunning 46-run knock powered Rajasthan Royals to a 4-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a do-or-die match in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, here on Friday.

The Royals thus put themselves in contention for the Playoffs spots as they moved to fifth on the table with this four-wicket win while Punjab Kings are officially out of the race.

After a shaky start, Sam Curran’s unbeaten 49 off 31 and Shahrukh Khan’s quickfire 41 not out off 28 balls along with Jitesh Sharma’s 31-ball 44 guided Punjab Kings to 187/5 in 20 overs.

In reply, half-centuries from Padikkal (51 off 30) and Jaiswal (50 off 36) and Hetmyer’s remarkable knock of 46 in just 28 deliveries and got them close to the finish line. Then Dhruv Jurel sealed the deal with a six helping his side to seal a win with two remaining.

Chasing 188, after an expensive opening over, the Royals lost Jos Buttler in the next over. Then, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal hit the paddle to take the Power-play to 57-1 with eight boundaries and two maximums.

PBKS managed to keep the duo quiet in three overs before Padikkal pulled over deep mid-wicket for a six and completed his fifty with a single. But Arshdeep Singh was quick to dismiss him on the next ball, ending a 73-run second wicket stand and Royals were reeling at 86/2 in 10 overs.

In the next over, Rahul Chahar trapped the big fish, skipper Sanju Samson, who looked to flick over the ropes on the leg side but did not get much elevation. The ball flew straight down the throat of Rishi Dhawan at deep square leg who took an easy catch.

Afterwards, Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer started punishing PBKS bowlers with their well-timed hits. Soon the former brought up his fifty in 35 balls but fell to Nathan Ellis on the next ball.

With 47 needed in 30 balls, the Royals managed to get just two fours in the next two overs. Sam Curran almost got Hetmyer in the next over but the batter immediately reviewed the decision. A flat-line on the ultra edge and Hetmyer stayed on with 33 needing in 18 balls.

Kagiso Rabada started the 18th over with a no-ball and Riyan Parag smacked it over deep mid-wicket for a six on free-hit and followed that up with another maximum. Rabada avenged it quickly he dismissed Parag on the last ball of the over.

Hetmyer smashed two boundaries off Curran but departed on the next ball after playing a brilliant knock and 9 was needed in the final over to win.

After three singles came in the first three balls, Dhruv Jurel smoked it down the ground over long-on for a maximum to seal the win for the Royals.

Earlier, batting first, Prabhsimran Singh fell to Kagiso Rabada on the second ball of the innings. But Punjab regrouped quickly with the help of Shikhar Dhawan and Atharva Taide’s strokeplay before Saini sent back Taide for a quickfire 19.

An over later, Adam Zampa came into the attack and removed PBKS skipper Dhawan, trapping him lbw as they were reduced to 48/3 at the end of the Power-play.

Soon, Saini claimed his second as he cleaned up the dangerous batter Liam Livingstone in the seventh over to get the Royals right on top in the innings.

The Royals continued to dominate the innings as no boundary came in the last four overs but Jitesh Sharma broke the shackles hitting Sandeep Sharma with two massive sixes as PBKS reached 78/4 in 10 overs.

Jitesh Sharma took Saini to the cleaners, hitting four, six and four on three successive deliveries but the pacer has the last laugh as he removed the dangerous-looking batter on the next ball. Half of the PBKS line-up was back in the pavilion as Punjab were reeling at 117/5 in 15 overs.

Then, the duo of Shahrukh and Curran took the bowlers to the cleaners as he added 46 runs off the last two overs to take Punjab to 187/5 in 20 overs.

Brief scores:

Punjab Kings 187/5 in 20 overs (Sam Curran 49, Shahrukh Khan 41 not out; Navdeep Saini 3-40) lost to Rajasthan Royals 189/6 in 19.4 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 50, Devdutt Padikkal 51, Shimron Hetmyer 46; Kagiso Rabada 2-40) by four wickets.

Rajasthan thrash Chennai, move to top spot

With this win, Rajasthan went to the top of the table with five wins while CSK, who also have five victories, dropped down to the third spot after the loss…reports Asian Lite News

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s attacking fifty (77 off 43) followed by clinical bowling performance by Adam Zampa (3-22) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2-35) led Rajasthan Royals to a convincing 32-run win over Chennai Super Kings in Match No. 37 of IPL 2023 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, here on Thursday.

With this win, Rajasthan went to the top of the table with five wins while CSK, who also have five victories, dropped down to the third spot after the loss.

Jaiswal’s fifty (77 off 43) propelled Rajasthan Royals to 202/5 in 20 overs. Apart from Jaiswal, the likes of Dhruv Jurel (34 off 15), Jos Buttler (27 off 21), and Devdutt Padikkal (24 off 12) contributed to the Royals’ big score on a batting-friendly pitch.

In reply, Shivam Dube (52 off 33) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (47 off 29) tried hard with the bat for CSK but it was not enough against a disciplined Royals bowling attack.

Chasing a huge total, CSK were off to a sedate start, scoring just 13 runs in the first three overs as both Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad were too cautious in their approach.

Gaikwad then decided to free his arms and got a few crucial four and sixes off Jason Holder and Ravichandran Ashwin in the next few overs but Conway had a torrid time out in the middle as he just couldn’t put the ball away to the boundary. The dots piled up and Conway (8 off 16) eventually ended up getting out by hitting one straight to mid-on in Adam Zampa’s over, leaving CSK on 42-1 at the end of the powerplay.

The wicket brought the in-form Ajinkya Rahane to the crease and along with Gaikwad, he had the responsibility to give some impetus to CSK’s innings. However, the Rajasthan bowlers, with their disciplined line and length, didn’t allow CSK batters to bat freely.

With the required run rate increasing, the pressure was mounting on the chasing team and Gaikwad tried to take on Zampa but he mistimed the ball horribly to get caught for 47. After Zampa, it was Ashwin’s turn to make an impact and he got rid of both Rahane (15) and Impact Substitute Ambati Rayudu (0) in the same over, putting CSK in deep trouble at 73/4 after 10.4 overs.

CSK were crumbling but Shivam Dube and Moeen Ali kept their hopes alive by hitting some crucial boundaries and sixes. Continuing his brilliant form, Dube was dealing in sixes and Moeen raced to 23 off just 12 balls before Zampa gave Royals a timely breakthrough by removing the England left-hander.

Chennai needed 78 from the final five and it was again Dube, who kept them in the hunt with his timely boundaries and sixes. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja struggled to get going initially but later he also found some boundaries but the target was becoming too big for CSK.

With 58 runs required off 18 balls, Sandeep Sharma executed his plans well and gave just 12 runs, bringing the equation to 46 off 12. And then Holder bowled an excellent over to concede just 9 runs. Eventually, CSK required 37 off the last over and they were able to get just four runs off Kuldip Yadav, getting restricted to 170/6 in 20 overs.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bat first as openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler gave them a flying start, scoring 60/0 in the Power-play. Jaiswal took on Akash Singh in the very first over, hitting the pacer for three boundaries. His batting partner Buttler targeted Tushar Deshpande and got two boundaries in an over.

Jaiswal was in no mood to stop as he hammered Akash for 18 runs in the pacer’s next over, courtesy of three fours and one six. With the pacers going for runs, CSK skipper Dhoni was forced to bring in the spinner and Maheesh Theekshana did well to concede just 3 runs.

The next two overs bowled by Deshpande and Theekshana brought 19 runs for the Royals, who were going strong. Even after the Power-play Jaiswal continued his blitz and stormed his way to a 26-ball half-century.

CSK badly needed a breakthrough and it was provided by Jadeja, who dismissed Buttler in the 8th over to give some respite to his team. While Jaiswal decided to continue with his aggressive approach, skipper Sanju Samson was happy playing second fiddle as Royals crossed the 100-run mark in the 10th over.

With Jaiswal and Samson at the crease, it seemed like Rajasthan were cruising towards a big total but Tushar Deshpande removed both set batters in the same over — the 14th of the innings — to bring CSK back into the game.

Samson first mistimed one to get caught at long-on and Jaiswal too didn’t quite middle the ball, with Ajinkya Rahane taking the catch at backward point, and leaving Rajasthan Royals at 132-3 after 13.5 overs.

With a healthy run rate on the board, the platform was set for the finishers. However, Shimron Hetmyer (8) got out to Theekshana, while trying to play a cut shot but was completely cramped up and bottom-edged the ball into the stumps.

From there on, the responsibility was on Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal to finish strongly for the Royals and they didn’t disappoint, scoring 56 runs in the last four overs. Jurel played some brilliant shots during his superb cameo while Padikkal chipped in though he was lucky with a couple of streaky boundaries — Royals posting 202/5 in 20 overs, which was the highest total at this ground in IPL history.

Brief scores:

Rajasthan Royals 202/5 in 20 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 77, Dhruv Jurel 34; Tushar Deshpande 2-42) beat Chennai Super Kings 170/6 in 20 overs (Shivam Dube 52, Ruturaj Gaikwad 47; Adam Zampa 3-22) by 32 runs.

Lucknow break Rajasthan’s winning streak

Lucknow Super Giants’ win also helps them level with Rajasthan on points and retain their second place in the points table…reports Asian Lite News

Rajasthan Royals had an 87-run opening partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler but impressive performances by Lucknow Super Giants bowlers, led by Avesh Khan’s 3/25 and Marcus Stoinis’ 2/28 helped their team win by ten runs in an IPL 2023 match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, here on Wednesday.

At the mid-stage of the game, Rajasthan kept Lucknow to 154/7 despite Kyle Mayers making 51 and it looked like a below-par total on a two-paced pitch.

Till the 11th over, Rajasthan didn’t lose any wicket and seemed to be cruising towards the target. But Stoinis taking out both openers got the match in Lucknow’s favour as Rajasthan lost four wickets for 32 runs from overs 12-17. Lucknow bowlers used conditions and big leg-side boundary to dry up runs as required run-rate climbed up, resulting in Rajasthan eventually ending at 144/6 in 20 overs.

Lucknow Super Giants’ win also helps them level with Rajasthan on points and retain their second place in the points table. It also makes 154/7, the lowest defended total of the season so far.

Chasing 155, Jaiswal looked good by driving Yudhvir Singh through cover for four and then quickly picked the short ball for a pulled six. Buttler, after his initial struggles, found his range by swatting Yudhvir for a 112-m massive six.

Jaiswal slashed hard at a length ball from Avesh in the final over of power-play, and the edge flew towards ul-Haq at short third man, who dropped the catch and conceded a four. He also hammered a drive for four, followed by Buttler pulling in the gap through the leg-side to hit the third boundary of the over.

Post power-play, Buttler punched Ravi Bishnoi through the off-side on a no-ball for four, while reverse-sweeping off impact player Amit Mishra for two boundaries. Jaiswal easily dispatched Stoinis for a six, but two balls later, the bowler had the last laugh as he hit straight to short third man for a low catch.

From there, the collapse began as captain Sanju Samson made a desperate late dive post a mix-up, but fell a yard short of reaching the striker’s end. In the 14th over, Buttler, while trying to pull off Stoinis, holed out to deep mid-wicket.

Two overs later, Lucknow struck again when Shimron Hetmyer toe-ended a big heave to long-on. Devdutt Padikkal broke a spell of 31 balls without boundaries with a punch past Bishnoi for four in an over yielding only six runs.

He then took three boundaries off Stoinis in the 18th over, with the pull being the standout. With 29 needed off the last two balls, Riyan Parag heaved high for six, but ul-Haq gave away only ten runs in the penultimate over.

Because of slow-over rate, Lucknow could keep only four fielders outside the 30-yard circle in the final over. Though Parag hit the first ball for four, Avesh bounced back by having Padikkal nick behind to keeper and Dhruv Jurel holing out to long-on, thereby sealing the game in Lucknow’s favour.

Earlier, pushed into batting first, Lucknow had a sedate powerplay, making only 37 runs. As Trent Boult bowled a maiden opening over, KL Rahul and Mayers remained cautious though they took a boundary each off Sandeep Sharma in the second over.

Rahul was given a life on six when Jaiswal put down a straightforward catch at extra cover in the fourth over. In the same over, Rahul could have been run-out by a yard if Jaiswal had fired in a direct hit.

Rahul had another life at 12 when his mistimed loft was dropped by Jason Holder running back from mid-off in the fifth over. In the next over, Mayers survived a close run-out at the non-striker’s end as replays showed Ashwin had hit the stumps with his arm.

Lucknow finally began to show signs of intent from the eighth over as Mayers launched a six off Holder over long-off while Rahul pulled him for four. In the next over, Mayers hit Yuzvendra Chahal for a lofted six over long-off and a four swept past the keeper on successive balls, before Rahul slog-swept the leg-spinner for a massive 103-metre six.

Rahul’s lucky knock ended in the 11th over when he holed out to long-on off Holder, while Ayush Badoni’s promotion to number three ended in the next over when his attempted scoop resulted in uprooting his leg-stump off Boult.

Mayers drove and pulled Chahal for back-to-back fours before reaching his fifty in 40 balls. But Deepak Hooda, playing his 100th IPL game on his 28th birthday, holed out to deep square leg off Ashwin. Two balls later, the off-spinner struck again by castling Mayers.

At 129/4 in 18 overs, with the last four overs yielding only 25 runs, Nicholas Pooran attacked Holder by dispatching him for six, followed by flicking and slicing for a brace of fours as 17 runs came off the 19th over.

In the final over, Sandeep surprised Stoinis with a short ball, resulting in a feather edge being caught by Samson. A brilliant direct hit from Samson resulted in the run-out of Pooran, with him also affecting the run-out of Yudhvir on the final ball.

Brief Scores: Lucknow Super Giants 154/7 in 20 overs (Kyle Mayers 51, KL Rahul 39; Ravichandran Ashwin 2/23, Trent Boult 1/16) beat Rajasthan Royals 144/6 in 20 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 44, Jos Buttler 40; Avesh Khan 3/25, Marcus Stoinis 2/28) by 10 runs.

Rajasthan’s Shekhawati region setting a pioneering example in girl education

In the last decade and a half, such a movement of education has arisen in Shekhawati that daughters have started going to school from every house, writes Nafees Sherani

In the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, Muslim organizations have set up such a beacon of education for girls, which is visible from afar amidst the desert.

Education is very important for the progress of any society. But the ‘sun of education’ does not shine on Muslim settlements. That too the education of girls, is a very distant dream.

In the last decade and a half, such a movement of education has arisen in Shekhawati that daughters have started going to school from every house.

Every day in the villages and cities of Shekhawati, the courtyards of the schools are resounding with the training songs of girls calling for service and virtue. 15 years ago, his world was limited to the four walls of the house. Because the path of education was very tight. Now there is more than one school there.

Shabina is a teacher in one such school. She has seen this change with her own eyes. Shabina says, “Earlier girls used to stay at home. Now every family has started sending their daughters to school. Having a good school and then having no fees, helped a lot.”

She says, “We have started training them in English so that they can walk at par with the world. We are also giving religious education.”

Earlier there was a difference between boys and girls. It has reduced now. Her mother, grandmother, and grandmother contributed the most in bringing the daughters to school. Grandmother first wanted a grandson, now she is proud of her granddaughters.

Mohsina is a class 10 student in Sikar. She wants to become a doctor. She says, “Earlier this trend was not there. Only boys used to go to school. Now girls are also making their families proud by studying.”

Shekhawati is a part of the desert area where life is very difficult. That’s why people have been going to Mumbai, sometimes to Gulf countries for business. And when wealth came in their hands, they did not forget to serve their land.

Sikar’s Wahid Chauhan’s desire for progress took him to Mumbai. But the desire for the education of daughters kept pulling him to Sikar again and again. About a decade ago, Chouhan established a school for girls’ education in Sikar, which proved to be a turning point in the education of daughters.

Chauhan said, “There was resistance initially, some thought that girls might go in the wrong direction. But with time everything got better. Today, I feel very happy to see girls studying.”

There is no fee in this school. School uniforms are also free. Sajid of the school’s management committee says, “A large section of our society protested a lot. Initially, there were only 27 girls in the school. Today 3,000 girls are taking training here. Now it has become a college.”

He was no longer dependent on the government for education. Didn’t even wait for any Sachar committee. Society itself stood up so that daughters get equal rights.

Aftab of Sikar says, “It was very difficult for a girl child to become a teacher in our society. Today my daughter is going to become an architect. This is beyond imagination. We were facing opposition in our own house. Earlier some People used to educate their daughters by giving private tuition. Now they are sending them to schools as per the rules. This is a big change.”

Village access

This light of education was not limited to the cities. It has reached even the villages. The Sophia School in Kheerwa village of Sikar district is run by a Muslim. But Principal Kesar Singh is a Hindu.

On this change in education, Hasan Mahmood Qasmi of Jamia Arabia says, “There has been a very good change in the education of Muslim girls in this decade and a half. Earlier the condition of society was not good. Ulema Ikram has played an important role in education.

Fatehpur town of Shekhawati also did not lag behind in the education of daughters. Jamiutal businessmen set up four schools there. Yusuf Khokhar of this institution says, “A large number of girls are coming to study. We believe that if a girl studies, she teaches the whole generation.”

Mohammad Hussain Pathan used to work in Gulf countries earlier. But he felt as if the land was calling him to do something. Now he runs a secondary school in a village. 350 girls are studying in his school.

A student Hina Sheikh says that earlier girls were married off at a young age, now parents consider it necessary for their daughters to study.
