Samsung to launch ‘Galaxy S22 Ultra’ on Feb 8

The current Galaxy S21 Ultra peaks at 1500 nits of peak brightness and one can expect the S22 Ultra to go beyond this mark….reports Asian Lite News

South Korean tech giant Samsung is reportedly planning to launch its next flagship smartphone Galaxy S22 Ultra on February 8, 2022.

According to popular tipster Ice Universe, Samsung won’t officially announce the Galaxy S22 Ultra until February 8. The other models in the Galaxy S22 series will be announced on the same day, reports GizmoChina.

The display of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the top model of the rumoured upcoming flagship phone series, will be the brightest one Samsung has ever made.

The current Galaxy S21 Ultra peaks at 1500 nits of peak brightness and one can expect the S22 Ultra to go beyond this mark.

The upcoming Galaxy S21 series will enter mass production next month.

The smartphones in the lineup will be available for purchase from January 2022 and all the models in the series are expected to come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 chipset.

In terms of specifications, the upcoming series may feature a new 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom capabilities as opposed to a high-resolution sensor with poor optical zoom.

Samsung is planning to take a different approach on the Galaxy S22/S22+ models. The Galaxy S22 series smartphones will pack a 10MP telephoto lens that supports 3x optical zoom rather than the hybrid zoom of the Galaxy S20/S21 era.

Previous rumours suggested that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is expected to continue the dual 10MP telephoto camera setup on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. One of the lenses will be a periscope lens that will offer 10x optical zoom.

Samsung to launch $17 bn chip plant in US

The new advanced chip-making plant, roughly 1,200 acres in size and making it larger than Samsung’s Austin plant, could create 1,800 jobs. …reports Asian Lite News

Samsung Electronics was set to announce its new $17 billion chip fabrication plant in the city of Taylor in Texas on Tuesday (US time), as global semiconductor companies have engaged in increasingly fierce competition amid a global chip crunch.

According to a report in The Wall Street Journal citing people familiar with the matter, “an announcement could come as early as Tuesday” as Texas Governor Greg Abbott was scheduled to make an “economic announcement” on Tuesday at 5 pm (US time).

The new advanced chip-making plant, roughly 1,200 acres in size and making it larger than Samsung’s Austin plant, could create 1,800 jobs.

However, the plant isn’t expected to actually start producing chips until the end of 2024, according to previous filings.

Samsung Electronics, the world’s biggest memory chip and mobile phone maker, has been considering building a new plant near the existing one in Austin, which opened in 1996.

But a major power outage caused by a cold wave and snowstorm in the area in February caused the company millions of dollars in losses and raised concerns over a steady electricity supply.

The city of Taylor in Texas, with a population of around 18,000, is currently considered the front-runner in the race to become home to the new plant, reports Yonhap news agency.

It has offered the tech giant a set of incentives, including tax rebates, for the project that is anticipated to bring approximately 1,800 jobs and other opportunities.

According to a resolution passed by Taylor’s city council, a 6 million square feet chip fabrication factory, when built, will produce “the most advanced” type of semiconductors by the end of 2024. Construction is expected to start in early 2022.

Wearables market: Samsung pips Xiaomi

The South Korean tech giant moved ahead of China’s Xiaomi for the first time to take the runner-up spot with a market share of 11.8 percent…reports Asian Lite News

Samsung Electronics took over Chinese brand Xiaomi to become the world’s second-largest vendor of wearable devices in the first quarter of the year, a report has showed, on the back of its wireless earbuds sales.

The South Korean tech giant moved ahead of China’s Xiaomi for the first time to take the runner-up spot with a market share of 11.8 percent, which was up 0.6 percentage point from a year earlier, according to the latest report from market researcher International Data Corporation (IDC).

At third place, Xiaomi was the only company among the top five brands to suffer an on-year decline in its wearable devices sales.

Xiaomi’s market share dropped to 9.7 percent from 13.3 percent from a year ago after its wearable shipments slipped 1.8 percent on-year to 10.2 million units, Yonhap news agency reported, quoting from the report.

Samsung shipped 11.8 million units of wearable products in the January-March period, up 35.7 percent from a year earlier.

“Driving its volumes higher has been its truly wireless earbuds, including the Galaxy Buds Live, Galaxy Buds+ and the most recent addition, the Galaxy Buds Pro,” IDC said.
