‘Arab youth are quick, tech-savvy, and proactive’

Policy and education leaders said that Arab youth need the opportunity to engage in the policymaking process to develop resilient mindsets and harness the full potential of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

These calls to empower young citizens came during the first session in the Arab Youth Leaders Meeting, organised by the Arab Youth Center (AYC). It was supported by the Arab League and the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, with the participation of youth ministers, youth workers, and multilateral organisations.

The session, entitled ‘Empowering Workers and Building Capacity in the Youth Work Sector’, took place as part of the World Government Summit 2022 at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Policy experts highlighted key gaps and recommendations to support the professional development of young Arabs. The discussion was held between Dr. Ali Al Lawati, President of the Royal Academy of Management in Oman, Dr. Abdullah Al Ghamdi, CEO of Education for Employment Foundation – KSA, and Dr. Mishaal Al Subaie, Deputy Director-General of the Youth Development Sector and the Youth Projects Sector in Kuwait.

Discussing the challenges facing young people, Dr. Al Lawati said, “The fourth industrial revolution is not technical or political, it is social, and it is being driven by young people. They are more tech-savvy than governments, but we cannot address the challenge of developing young people with skills training alone. The new generation is digitally connected but socially disconnected, and in today’s digital economy, character traits are more important than skills.”

For his part, Dr. Al Ghamdi emphasised the need to engage young people in developing the policies that will impact them.

Al Subaie stressed the importance of recognising the varying needs of young people.

‘Youth and sustainable development’

Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Vice President of the Arab Youth Center (AYC) said that government institutions have a duty to provide youth with skills and opportunities to become drivers of sustainable human, economic and governmental development.

Speaking today during the ‘Power of the Youth: The Multiplier Effect’ session, held as part of the inaugural Arab Meeting for Young Leaders, at the World Government Summit (WGS2022), Al Mazrouei said, “When we are confident and driven by our belief in the youth, we can make a great impact.

“Our mission today and every day is to always have their best interests in mind, to preserve the sparkle in their eyes, and invest for their benefit and the benefit of our countries.”

Ongoing AU summit proves game changer in Africa’s fight against pandemic: Africa CDC Chief

As part of the strict Covid-19 preventive methods enrolled at the summit, an antigen test is mandatory for participants before accessing the AU headquarters compound in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa…reports Asian Lite News

Strict Covid-19 prevention methods enrolled at the ongoing African Union (AU) summit, underway for the first time physically since the onset of the pandemic, proved a game-changer in Africa’s fight against the infection, John Nkengasong, Director of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has said.

The Director on Sunday added that critics were labeling the summit, which was convened physically following a hiatus in 2021 due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, as “a transmission event or a super spreader event”.

“We stood firm and we said, we want to be sure to understand the kinetics of infection during the summit. So when we pronounced ourselves and we said that the summit was Covid-19 free, we backed that with science,” said Nkengasong addressing the media on the sidelines of the summit.

As part of the strict Covid-19 preventive methods enrolled at the summit, an antigen test is mandatory for participants before accessing the AU headquarters compound in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

During the first three days of the event, comprising the meetings of AU Executive Council and AU Assembly, the Africa CDC managed to conduct more than 5,400 Covid-19 tests using temporary testing centers installed inside the AU premises, Xinhua news agency reported.

According to the Africa CDC Director, some 25 positive Covid-19 cases were detected during the first three days of the summit, which began on Wednesday, with an overall positivity rate of around 0.6 per cent.

“This summit has become a game-changer for the way that such conferences and meetings are organised in this continent, where people actually follow public health measures very strictly,” he said.

As of Saturday evening, a total of 10,896,302 Covid-19 cases were reported in Africa. The death toll from the pandemic across the continent stands at 241,112, while 9,917,757 patients have recovered from the disease.

UAE to participate in Gujarat’s investor summit

This will be the third time that the UAE will be participating in the Summit as a Partner Country…reports Asian Lite News

The UAE will participate in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2022 as a “Partner Country,” the organisers of the Summit have announced.

“India and UAE share a close friendship and this partnership for Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2022 will boost bilateral relations,” said the announcement made in Gandhinagar, capital of one of India’s most business-friendly states.

UAE to participate in Gujarat’s investor summit

This will be the third time that the UAE will be participating in the Summit as a Partner Country. The biennial gathering brings together captains of global business, thought leaders and policy-makers to explore business opportunities in the state located in western India.

The idea of the summit was conceptualised in 2003 after Narendra Modi became Chief Minister of Gujarat. It has continued as a catalyst in making Gujarat a preferred investment destination within India even after Modi became India’s Prime Minister.

Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, was in the UAE earlier this month to promote the Summit among UAE businessmen and investors. Patel had extensive meetings in several emirates during the visit.

State’s global brand image

As a pre-cursor to the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit (VGGIS) 2022, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel earlier this month met industry leaders in one-on-one meetings during his visit to Mumbai.

The 10th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit will be held on the theme of “Atmanirbhar Gujarat to Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in January 2022 in the state capital, Gandhinagar from January 10 to 12.

As a pre-cursor to the 2022 summit, Patel was in Mumbai for a road-show to invite investors to Gujarat.

“The Vibrant Gujarat Summit which was conceptualized in 2003 by the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi, has built Gujarat’s global brand image. When he initiated the summit, it was a new experiment for the nation and the world. Today, it is a global brand image to reckon with,” said Bhupendra Patel on Thursday.

“The summit has evolved, focusing on global issues, their solutions and opportunities available worldwide in addition to promoting investment in the state. Networking and knowledge sharing are other pertinent takeaways. Gujarat is deeply committed to fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat for the growth and development of India’s citizens,” added Patel.

Addressing leading industrialists and business delegates in Mumbai, he stressed on the dominance of Gujarat as the country’s most preferred investment destination across the globe. “Gujarat has an all-inclusive, all-round development ecosystem and with industry-friendly policies, the state is ready to welcome global and local industries/businesses seeking to re-locate in post-corona times,” added Patel.

“We aim to attract investment in sectors such as next-generation infrastructure, energy, digital network, fintech, start-up, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies. The VGGIS Summit is the best platform to be a part of the development journey from ‘Atmanirbhar Gujarat to Atmanirbhar Bharat’,” said Patel.

He invited financial institutions, fintech companies and startups present in the interactive meet to invest and do business in Gujarat’s GIFT City.

At Dubai Expo

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also visited the India Pavilion at EXPO2020 Dubai earlier this month and made a strong pitch to global investors to capitalise on the state’s ease of doing business, conducive policies, robust industrial ecosystem and futuristic infrastructure.

Expo

The visit was part of the state’s plans to engage with global investor community, government representatives, heads of companies, trade & industry chambers and promote the 10th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2022. Patel, along with other officials would be showcasing the tremendous business opportunities that the state offers.

Speaking on his visit to the India Pavilion, the Chief Minister said, “As part of celebrating India’s 75th year of Independence, a special show is organized at the Dubai Expo. India’s progress is showcased in areas like science and technology, industrial growth, agriculture and space sciences.”

“It’s heartening to see the Image of a new India on an international platform like the Dubai Expo. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi is propelling India to set new benchmarks of development and progress. I am truly impressed watching the India pavilion at this Expo,” he added.
