China Unveils ‘Blueprint’ For Taiwan Integration

In the days leading up to the release of China’s integration plan, a Chinese aircraft carrier and approximately two dozen warships were observed gathering in waters near Taiwan…reports Asian Lite News

In a significant move, China has unveiled a comprehensive plan to deepen integration between its coastal province of Fujian and Taiwan, a self-governing island nation, CNN reported.

The announcement comes alongside a display of military strength as Chinese warships encircled Taiwan. The directive, jointly issued by the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Committee and the State Council, outlines ambitious goals, including making Fujian a “demonstration zone” for integrated development with Taiwan and the “first home” for Taiwanese residents and businesses looking to establish themselves in China, CNN reported.

This directive is being hailed as a potential blueprint for Taiwan’s future development by Chinese experts quoted in state media. However, its release comes at a critical juncture in cross-strait relations, with Taiwan preparing for its upcoming presidential election in January. China continues to exert military pressure on Taiwan, despite the island being a vibrant democracy with a population of 24 million people that Beijing’s ruling Communist Party claims as its territory, despite never having controlled it.

In the days leading up to the release of China’s integration plan, a Chinese aircraft carrier and approximately two dozen warships were observed gathering in waters near Taiwan, according to Taiwanese authorities. China has long employed a combination of incentives and threats towards Taiwan, offering business and cultural opportunities while simultaneously warning of the possibility of military invasion, as reported by CNN.

Given the recent strain in cross-strait relations, it remains uncertain how receptive Taiwanese citizens and leaders will be to China’s sweeping proposal. Wang Ting-yu, a Taiwanese lawmaker from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, criticized the integration plan as “ridiculous” in a video message, suggesting that China should focus on addressing its financial challenges rather than engaging in united front work against Taiwan.

The concept of turning Fujian into a zone for integrated development with Taiwan was first introduced in China’s official documents in 2021 but lacked specific details. In June, when a senior Chinese leader mentioned the integration plan at a forum, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council dismissed it as “meaningless” and “futile,” asserting that it did not align with Taiwan’s public expectations, according to CNN.

In the newly released directive, Beijing commits to improving the business environment for Taiwanese companies operating in Fujian, deepening industrial and capital cooperation, and encouraging Taiwanese firms to list on Chinese stock exchanges. Additionally, Taiwanese companies will be allowed to invest in and establish radio and television production companies in Fujian as part of a pilot programme.

The directive also aims to attract Taiwanese workers and families to settle in Fujian by enhancing social welfare programs, making it easier for Taiwanese individuals to live and work in the province, including property ownership. It promises equal treatment for Taiwanese students, allowing them to enrol in public schools.

Chinese observers view this document as outlining Taiwan’s future development, with integration into Fujian expected to provide broader economic prospects for the island. Fujian, a province with 40 million people located on the western side of the Taiwan Strait, shares geographical and cultural ties with Taiwan. Many Taiwanese are descendants of Fujian immigrants who brought their dialect, customs, and religion, contributing to Taiwan’s traditional Han culture.

China’s ruling Communist Party has consistently cited the geographic, historical, and cultural proximity between Fujian and Taiwan as a basis for advocating closer economic and social integration, ultimately leading to unification with the island. Special attention is given to Taiwan’s outlying islands of Kinmen and Matsu, which have historically had strong ties with the mainland due to their proximity to Fujian, CNN reported.

In Tuesday’s directive, Beijing commits to accelerating integration between Xiamen and Kinmen, exploring infrastructure cooperation that would allow the transport of electricity and gas from Xiamen to Kinmen and connecting the two cities with a bridge. Kinmen residents will receive similar treatment to local residents in Xiamen.

Similar integration measures are outlined for Fuzhou and Matsu. For some residents of Kinmen, these plans for greater connectivity may be appealing. This year, a cross-party alliance of eight local councillors in Kinmen proposed building a bridge to Xiamen to enhance economic ties. This proposal is part of a broader plan to demilitarize Kinmen and turn it into a “peace island,” positioning it as a setting for talks between Beijing and Taipei aimed at de-escalating tensions.

As China moves forward with its integration plan for Fujian and Taiwan, the region remains a focal point for geopolitical tensions, with implications for the future of cross-strait relations and regional stability, CNN reported. (ANI)

Japan Dispatches Defence Official to Taiwan

A serving Japanese defence ministry official has been dispatched to Taiwan and stationed within an organization that serves as a liaison with Japan, sources say, NHK World reported.

NHK World-Japan is the international service of Japan’s public media organization NHK.

The move shows Japan’s efforts to gather intelligence in response to mounting concerns about a potential crisis in Taiwan.

Though Japan has no diplomatic ties with Taiwan, the the Taipei office of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association acts as Japan’s de facto Embassy. Various Japanese officials, including those from the foreign ministry and the economy and industry ministry are posted there.

Sources close to the matter say a civilian bureaucrat from the defense ministry has been stationed in the Taipei office since this spring.

The Japanese defence ministry had until then not dispatched any serving officials to the organization.

A retired Japanese Self-Defense Forces officer has been assigned there since 2003, bringing the total number of Japanese officials in charge of security to two.

Japan has, however, refrained from dispatching a serving SDF officer to Taiwan, unlike some other nations that have no diplomatic ties with Taiwan but station uniformed officers there, as per NHK World.

Observers suggest that Japan has avoided doing so to prevent provoking China, which claims Taiwan as its own.

Meanwhile, Taiwan recently termed China as the “bully next door” and said that Beijing should hold its own election instead of shaping Taipei.

“The #PRC has made it clear it wants to shape #Taiwan’s coming national election. Well, it’s up to our citizens to decide, not the bully next door. Look, #China should hold its own elections; I’m sure its people would be thrilled,” Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said on microblogging site X.

This came hours after the People’s Republic of China reportedly crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan on Saturday said it has detected warplane incursions into its air defence zone since China announced the launch of military drills, the country’s Defence Ministry said. (ANI)

Ramaswamy calls for ‘strategic clarity’ on Taiwan

Amid rising tensions with China over Taiwan, Ramaswamy emphasized the importance of safeguarding US national security by preventing China from monopolizing the global semiconductor supply chain…reports Asian Lite News

The US embraces a policy that fails to recognise Taiwan as a nation and adopts the posture of “strategic ambiguity” over whether or not it will defend the East Asian country against a Chinese invasion, Indian American Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has said.

Beijing considers Taiwan as its breakaway province and insists it should be unified with the mainland, by force if necessary. Taiwan, however, sees itself as completely distinct from China.

“It is vital for US national security interest to ensure that China does not acquire sole control of the global semiconductor supply chain,” Ramaswamy said in a statement on Sunday amidst increasing tension with China on the Taiwan issue.

“Accordingly, the US should shift from strategic ambiguity to strategic clarity: commit to affirmatively defend Taiwan against Chinese annexation until the US achieves semiconductor independence, at which point the US should resume its current posture of strategic ambiguity,” he said.

Last week, the Biden Administration approved a military transfer of USD 80 million to Taiwan under the Foreign Military Financing (FMF), a programme typically used for sovereign states.

In response, a state-run newspaper in China stated that the US had crossed a red line with “lethal consequences.” The Vivek campaign said at present, the US embraces the “One China” Policy, which fails to recognise Taiwan as a nation and adopts the posture of “strategic ambiguity” about whether or not the US will defend Taiwan against an invasion.

This creates mutual confusion with China about red lines and increases the risk of major conflict between the US and China, a risk that is heightened in the near term when the entire US economy and modern way of life rely on leading-edge semiconductors manufactured in Taiwan, the campaign said.

“In the meantime, Taiwan can double its own military expenditures to a more rational four to five of GDP while the US bolsters its own military and economic alliances with India, Japan, and South Korea and fortifies our own homeland defense capabilities – including but not limited to a nuclear missile, super-EMP, and cyber defenses,” Ramaswamy said.

“This is how we can stop Chinese aggression and advance vital long-run US interests while avoiding World War III. I am the only US Presidential candidate in either political party who has offered a clear vision for how to achieve this goal,” said the Republican presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, a super political action committee associated with Republican presidential candidate and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has privately told his donors that all the attacks in recent days over Ramaswamy, his primary rival, were being carried by them, a media report said on Sunday.

“Everything you read about him is from us. Every misstatement, every 360 he’s conducting or 180 that he is going through in life, is from our scrutiny and pressure,” according to a report in Politico newspaper.

“And so, he’s not going to go through that very well, and that will get worse for him,” Jeff Roe, the leader of the DeSantis-aligned Never Back Down told the gathering of donors.

The quotes are part of an audio tape obtained by Politico from the speech of Roe with the donors of DeSantis just before last month’s Republican presidential primary debate.

Ramaswamy, 38, outshone the rest of the presidential opponents at the debate stage. The Ramaswamy campaign has slammed the DeSantis campaign for this.

“When DeSantis’s Super Pac campaign, Chris Christie, the New York Times, MSNBC and the rest of the bipartisan establishment are all going after you at the same time, you know you’re right over the target. “America watched Vivek dominate the debate stage, it’s no wonder Never Back Down is pissing away another $20 million after Labor Day,” Ramaswamy spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin was quoted as saying.

According to the report, Row told the donors that Ramaswamy would not be able to go through the avalanche of dirt thrown at him.

“He will not go through the discovery, scrutiny and decline phase of presidential politics very well. His scrutiny phase, we are putting him through it right now,” he said. Roe indicated that his campaign against Ramaswamy would intensify after Labour Day.

Biden Approves First-Ever Taiwan Arms Transfer

The package totals USD 80 million and will be paid for by US taxpayers….reports Asian Lite News

The Biden administration has approved funding for the first-ever transfer of US military equipment to Taiwan, as per a notification sent to the Congress, CNN reported.

The package, which is part of the State Department’s foreign military financing (FMF) program, totals USD 80 million and will be paid for by US taxpayers.

The department, in its notification to the Congress, wrote: “FMF will be used to strengthen Taiwan’s self-defence capabilities through joint and combined defence capability and enhanced maritime domain awareness and maritime security capability.”

The transfer was confirmed by a State Department spokesperson.

“Consistent with the Taiwan Relations Act and our longstanding one-China policy, which has not changed, the United States makes available to Taiwan defence articles and services necessary to enable it to maintain a sufficient self-defence capability,” the spokesperson informed CNN through a statement.

“The United States has an abiding interest in peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, which is critical to regional and global security and prosperity,” he said.

According to CNN, the newest development in continued US support for Taiwan is likely to anger China, which claims the self-governing island as its own.

The US has in the past sold weapons to Taiwan through a separate program called Foreign Military Sales (FMS). The FMF program will provide grant assistance, paid for by US taxpayers, to Taiwan in order to make those purchases.

According to the letter sent to the Congress, the sale could span a wide range of capabilities, including air and coastal defence systems, ballistic missile defence, cyber defence, drones, military training, individual soldier protective gear, and ammunition. It is likely to take months or years for the military support to actually get to Taiwan because the equipment will be folded into future equipment buys by the Pentagon, CNN reported.

Under the Taiwan Enhanced Resilience Act passed last year, the US is authorized to spend up to USD 2 billion annually in military grant assistance to the island from 2023 to 2027.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul welcomed the approval.

McCaul said in a statement, “I am glad the administration is further implementing our bipartisan Taiwan Enhanced Resilience Act by finally providing FMF to Taiwan. These weapons will not only help Taiwan and protect other democracies in the region but also strengthen the US deterrence posture and ensure our national security from an increasingly aggressive CCP.” (ANI)

Foxconn’s Terry Gou Joins Taiwan Presidential Election Race

Founded in 1974, Foxconn grew to become an international business empire, becoming the largest private employer and exporter in mainland China with a workforce of 1.2 million…reports Asian Lite News

iPhone maker Foxconn’s founder Terry Gou on Monday announced an independent bid for the Taiwan presidential election in January 2024.

The 72-year-old tech billionaire is now the fourth candidate for the top position, reports Nikkei Asia.

He is pitted against Vice President Lai Ching-te of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Taiwan People’s Party Chairman Ko Wen-je, and New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih of the China-friendly Kuomintang (KMT).

Gou said at a press conference he will “make Taiwan overtake Singapore within 20 years” and have the highest GDP per capita in Asia.

“If Singapore can do it, so can Taiwan. We need to pull the country back to the path of peace and prosperity through this election. Only by doing so can hundreds of industries safely develop and can people live and work in peace and contentment,” Gou was quoted as saying.

“Taiwan should absolutely not become Ukraine. I shall never let Taiwan be the next Ukraine,” said Gou.

“I can guarantee that I’ll bring 50 years of peace to the Taiwan Strait.”

Gou needs sufficient nominations to officially become a presidential candidate in November.

Founded in 1974, Foxconn grew to become an international business empire, becoming the largest private employer and exporter in mainland China with a workforce of 1.2 million.

As of 2022, Gou had a net worth of $6.8 billion.

In 2019, Gou resigned from Foxconn and joined the Kuomintang (KMT) to run for President. Once described as an “old friend” by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Gou has been characterised as friendly to Chinese business interests during his political and business career.

Taiwan calls China “bully next door”

This came hours after the People’s Republic of China reportedly crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait….reports Asian Lite News

Taiwan on Saturday termed China as the “bully next door” and said that Beijing should hold its own election instead of shaping Taipei.

Taiwan on Saturday said it has detected 42 warplane incursions into its air defence zone since China announced the launch of military drills, the country’s Defence Ministry said.

“Since 0900 (UTC+8) today (Aug. 19), the R.O.C. Armed Forces detected 42 PLA aircraft (including KJ-500, Y-9, J-10, J-11, J-16, SU-30 etc.), 26 of which crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait. Additionally, the PLA aircraft conducted joint combat patrol with 8 PLAN vessels,” Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence said on X.

“The R.O.C. Armed Forces are closely monitoring the situation with our ISR system and have deployed CAP aircraft, naval vessels, and land-based missile systems in response,” it added.

Earlier in the day, the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee released a statement on Vice President William Lai’s “stopover” in the US.

An official of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee on Saturday strongly condemned the new provocative move by Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to further collude with the United States, Xinhua News agency reported.

The official made the remarks in response to Lai Ching-te’s “stopover” through the United States, describing the move as Lai’s shameless efforts to cling to US support to seek “Taiwan independence.”

The DPP authorities have stubbornly adhered to the separatist stance of “Taiwan independence,” continuously made provocations by relying on the United States to seek “Taiwan independence,” and willingly acted as a pawn for anti-China forces in the United States and in the West to contain China, the official said, adding that they have “betrayed the interests of the Chinese nation.”

Lai has stubbornly stuck to the “Taiwan independence” stance, the official said, adding that Lai’s latest “stopover” through the US was a disguise he used to sell out the interests of Taiwan in order to seek gains in the local election through dishonest moves, as per Xinhua News agency.

Lai’s deeds have proven that he is an out-and-out troublemaker who will push Taiwan to the dangerous brink of war and bring deep troubles to Taiwan compatriots, the official said.

“We are willing to create ample room for peaceful reunification, but we will not allow any space for ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist activities in any form,” Xinhua News agency quoted the official saying. (ANI)

China conducts military drills around Taiwan

The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on Saturday launched joint air and sea patrols and military exercises of the navy and air force around Taiwan.

The patrols and exercises are meant to train the coordination of military vessels and airplanes and their ability to seize control of air and sea spaces, Shi Yi, a spokesperson for the command, was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.

The armed forces’ ability to fight in real combat conditions will be tested, Shi said, adding that the patrols and exercises serve as a “stern warning to the collusion of Taiwan independence separatists with foreign elements and their provocations”.

Escalating China-Taiwan tension worries Philippines

Philippines is concerned about its economic stability, a potential influx of refugees, and the welfare of overseas populations..reports Asian Lite News

The escalating tension between China and Taiwan has become a “major concern” for the Philippine government, according to Philstar citing Manila’s National Security Policy.

In the National Security Policy 2023 to 2028, the Philippine government said the Taiwan-China relations have the “potential to be the flashpoint in the region.”

It further stated that the Philippines is concerned about its economic stability, a potential influx of refugees, and the welfare of overseas populations, reported Philstar.

Philstar is the name used for “The Philippine Star”, which is an English-language newspaper in the Philippines and the flagship brand of the Philstar Media Group.

“Any military conflict in the Taiwan Strait would inevitably affect the Philippines given the geographic proximity of Taiwan to the Philippine archipelago and the presence of over 150,000 Filipinos in Taiwan,” it added.

China claimed that Taiwan is part of their country while the latter called itself a sovereign and independent country and not part of the former.

A few days back China vowed to take ‘strong measures’ after Taiwan’s Vice President William Lai stopover at the US.

In a statement issued by the country’s Foreign Ministry after Lai stopover at the US, China said, “China firmly opposes any form of official interaction between the US and the Taiwan region. We firmly oppose any visit by “Taiwan independence” separatists to the US in any name or under whatever pretext, and we firmly oppose the US government having any form of official contact with the Taiwan region. China deplores and strongly condemns the US decision to arrange the so-called “stopover” for Lai Ching-te.”

China called Lai a troublemaker and said that the US and the Taiwan authorities arranged for Lai to engage in political activities in the US in the name of having a “stopover”.

China also stated that Lai’s action violates the one-China principle and gravely undermines the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The fact once again shows that the fundamental cause of the continued tensions in the Taiwan Strait is the Taiwan authorities’ attempt to solicit US support for “Taiwan independence” and that the US is bent on using Taiwan to contain China.

“We urge the US to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, deliver on its commitment of not supporting ‘Taiwan independence’ or ‘two Chinas’ or ‘one China, one Taiwan’, stop all forms of official interaction with Taiwan, stop conniving at and supporting ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces and their separatist activities and stop fudging and hollowing out the one-China principle. China is closely following the developments of the situation and will take resolute and strong measures to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” it added.

In April, Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian “advised” the Philippines against supporting the independence of neighbouring Taiwan if it “cares genuinely” about the OFWs based in the island, as per Philstar.

The envoy made the statement after Manila gave Washington access to more military bases, some of which are located in Isabela and Cagayan—northern provinces facing Taiwan. (ANI)

Taiwan will not back down to threats, says VP William Lai

Taiwan and the United States both say the stopovers, including one in San Francisco on the way back, are routine, but China has denounced them and called Lai a separatist “troublemaker.”…reports Asian Lite News

If Taiwan is safe then the world is safe and Taiwan will not back down in the face of authoritarian threats, the island’s vice president told supporters on a US visit that Beijing has condemned, while reiterating a willingness to talk to China.

William Lai, also frontrunner to be Taiwan’s next president at January elections, is in the United States on what is officially a transit stop on his way to Paraguay for the inauguration of its new president. Paraguay is one of only 13 countries to maintain formal ties with the Chinese-claimed island.

Taiwan and the United States both say the stopovers, including one in San Francisco on the way back, are routine, but China has denounced them and called Lai a separatist “troublemaker.”

In comments at a lunch in New York on Sunday, Lai said that “if Taiwan is safe, the world is safe, if the Taiwan Strait is peaceful, then the world is peaceful,” according to a read out from Taiwan’s presidential office.

“We are already on the right track. Don’t be afraid and turn back because of the increased threat from authoritarianism. We must be brave and strong to continue to grow Taiwan on the road of democracy,” he said.

China has a particular dislike of Lai, who has previously described himself as a “practical worker for Taiwan independence,” a red line for Beijing which has never renounced the use of force to bring the island under its control.

Lai has pledged to maintain peace and the status quo.

Lai reiterated in New York that on the basic of dignity and parity he was “very willing” to talk to China and seek peace and stability, following Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen’s policies.

But Lai said he will protect Taiwan’s sovereignty, that only Taiwan’s people can decide their future and that the Republic of China — Taiwan’s formal name — and the People’s Republic of China are “not subordinate to each other.”

Both Taipei and Washington are aiming for the US stopovers to be low-key, and have called on China not to take any provocative action in response.

China condemns Taiwan Vice-President’s transit stop in US

William Lai will stop for transit in New York on his way to the South American country and another in San Francisco on his return…reports Asian Lite News

Taiwan’s Vice President William Lai departed for his seven-day trip to Paraguay and will have a stopover in US in a transit stop which angered the Chinese side on Saturday.

Taiwan Vice President informed on the social media platform ‘X’ formerly known as Twitter and said, “Departing soon for #Asuncion to attend @SantiPenap’s inauguration & convey to him & the people of #Paraguay the best wishes of @iingwen & #Taiwan. Looking forward to meeting with @MaritoAbdo to express thanks for his staunch support & excited to meet with #US friends in transit.”

William Lai will stop for transit in New York on his way to the South American country and another in San Francisco on his return, reported the VOA news.

China has firmly reacted to Taiwan’s Lai stopover and condemned it strongly. The VOA news reported that China said there are concerns it will respond to the visits by launching military exercises in protest.

Meanwhile, the American and Taiwanese officials have characterized Lai’s stops as “routine” for Taiwanese officials. China says it firmly opposes such “sneaky visits”,  especially by someone like Lai, a politician Beijing has branded a Taiwan “independence separatist.”

In the month of April this year, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen met the speaker of the United States House of Representatives, McCarthy, on Wednesday (local time) in California, The New York Post reported.

Notably, this was the first time when Taiwan’s President met with a US House speaker on American soil.

The meeting between the two leaders is seen as something China extremely disapproves of and has repeatedly shown opposition to.

Ahead of their meeting, China dispatched several maritime vessels near Taiwan’s coast. On Wednesday night local time, Beijing sent a “large scale patrol and rescue vessel” to the central and northern Taiwan Strait for a three-day “joint patrol and inspection” operation, China’s Fujian Maritime Safety Administration said in a statement.

Last year, China fired multiple missiles and launched military drills around Taiwan after then-US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the island. Her visit also strained the bilateral ties between US and China.

Recently, Taiwan detected the highest number of navy vessels around the country in a single day “in recent times,” reported Taiwan News.

According to Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND), sixteen navy vessels and fifteen Chinese military aircraft were detected in the vicinity of Taiwan.

Beijing has sent 239 military aircraft and 94 naval ships around Taiwan so far this month. Since September 2020, China has amplified its use of grey zone tactics by incrementally increasing the number of military aircraft and naval ships operating around Taiwan. (ANI)

Taiwan holds anti-takeover drill amid possible Chinese invasion

China claims Taiwan as its territory despite never having controlled it. The country has spent decades trying to isolate Taiwan diplomatically..reports Asian Lite News

Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport on Wednesday became the scene of a simulated Chinese invasion as the island’s military conducted an anti-takeover drill to prepare for any possible attack from Beijing, CNN reported.

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense said the drill was designed to test the Taiwanese military’s cross-branch coordination and emergency response capabilities during a simulated Chinese invasion. There were military helicopters in the sky and soldiers on the tarmac. The drill at Taiwan’s busiest international gateway reflects how Taipei is preparing for multiple scenarios in the face of fears over China’s increased military intimidation – concerns which have amplified since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began last year, as per CNN

China claims Taiwan as its territory despite never having controlled it. The country has spent decades trying to isolate Taiwan diplomatically.

China has not ruled out using force to take control of Taiwan, and has been putting growing military pressure on Taipei by sending aircraft into its self-declared air defense identification zone and warships in waters around the island.

Airports, civilian or otherwise, are primary targets, as was vividly displayed by Moscow’s ultimately unsuccessful attempt to seize Kyiv’s Hostomel Airport in the opening stages of their invasion last year, as per CNN.

On Wednesday, soldiers were seen at Taoyuan, wearing red helmets to mark themselves as simulated infiltrators engaged in a shootout drill with airport police. Firefighters also practiced putting out simulated fires.

Military choppers simulated flying over the airport and deploying enemy troops on the tarmac. As they approached an airport building, they exchanged fire along the way with the Taiwanese military defending the facility and those hiding in makeshift covers.

The drills, which lasted for 30 minutes, wrapped up as the Taiwanese military practiced clearing out residual enemy forces, brandishing Taiwan’s flag in the end to signify their simulated successful defense of the airport, according to CNN. (ANI)
