‘Congress making every effort to save Constitution’

The Congress leader said BJP, PM Narendra Modi and the RSS are bent on destroying the Constitution of India….reports Asian Lite News

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that his party and the INDIA bloc are making every effort to save the Constitution while the BJP, PM Narendra Modi and the RSS are bent on destroying it.

“Today there is a fight between two ideologies in the country. On one side are the Congress Party and the INDIA bloc, which are engaged in saving the Constitution. On the other side are Narendra Modi and RSS, who are trying to destroy the Constitution. Whatever you have got is from this Constitution, but BJP wants that the Constitution book be thrown away and the country be run by 20-25 people,” he said while addressing a public rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind.

“BJP leaders have said that if they win the elections, the Constitution will be changed. But I want to tell you — the Constitution is the soul of the poor, no power can erase it,” he added.

The Congress MP also alleged that the BJP government privatised public sector companies in order to end reservation.

“If the BJP is not against reservation, then why have all the public sectors been privatised by PM Modi’s government,” he questioned.

Congress has fielded Phool Singh Baraiya from Bhind Lok Sabha seat which the BJP has retained since 1989.

The election in Bhind along with six other Lok Sabha seats including Guna, Morena Bhopal and Vidisha will be held in the third phase on May 7.

‘Congress has a history of strangulating Constitution’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that the people of the nation would not accept the Congress, SP, and INDIA bloc’s agenda to grant reservation to a specific religious group, thereby jeopardising the constitutional framework and encroaching upon the reservation meant for backward and scheduled castes.

Talking to reporters at the Gorakhnath temple complex, the chief minister said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party staunchly opposes any form of reservation based on religion because the common people have suffered the brunt of Partition of India on the basis of religion. The BJP firmly supports reservation benefits for SC-ST and OBC communities.”

He remarked that the history of the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and their associates within the INDIA bloc is well-known to all.

“The Congress has a track record of undermining Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar’s Constitution. Since its adoption in 1950, Congress persistently attempted to manipulate the Constitution for its own ends, often disregarding fundamental freedoms such as freedom of expression. Governance is meant for the people, and public sentiments ought to be honoured, a principle the Congress failed to grasp.”

He highlighted that the populace hasn’t forgotten the Emergency period which was like ‘strangulating the Constitution of the country’.

“Along with this, the people of the country also remember the sins that Congress committed during the UPA government. Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party were allies of Congress in the UPA government at that time,” he added.

Yogi Adityanath asserted that the Congress had made efforts to deprive the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes of their rights through initiatives like the Justice Ranganath Mishra Committee and Sachar Committee, engaging in actions contrary to the Constitution across the nation. Subsequently, Congress maliciously attempted to introduce reservations based on religion.

He further said, “The ulterior motive of the then Congress government was to cut 6 per cent of the 27 per cent reservation meant for OBC and give it to a community as part of its appeasement politics. Similarly, through the Sachar Committee, efforts were made to include certain Muslim castes by encroaching upon the reservations allocated for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.”

The Chief Minister emphasised that the strong opposition from the Bharatiya Janata Party thwarted the intentions of the then Congress government. Otherwise, within the same UPA government, Congress would have undermined OBC and SC-ST reservations by introducing religion-based reservations nationwide.

‘Gandhi family will fight from Amethi’

Amid the speculations on whether Rahul Gandhi will contest from Amethi, Congress leader Deepak Singh on Tuesday said that the “Gandhi family will definitely contest” from this constituency owing to the strong relations with public in Amethi.

Speaking to ANI, Deepak Singh said, “Rahul Gandhi has an emotional attachment with Amethi.

Amethi has strong relations with the Gandhi family. Definitely Gandhi family will fight from here. This is what we feel…BJP is worried, we all have faith that Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi will come and defeat the BJP.”

Smriti Irani defeated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi. Irani has been fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party from the seat again.

According to sources, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi are likely to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Rae Bareli and Amethi seats, respectively.

As per the seat agreement between the Samajwadi Party and Congress in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress will contest 17 seats and the Samajwadi Party the remaining 63 seats in the electorally crucial state.

Earlier, posters featuring Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, appeared outside the party’s office on Wednesday in the Gauriganj area of Amethi. This raised speculations of a possible ticket for Vadra.

However, the Congress appears to put up a fight for every seat that it is contesting and has thus decided on fielding the Gandhi sibling.

Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituencies will vote in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 20. (ANI)
