Former President Donald Trump has intensified his attacks against President Joe Biden, alleging that the current administration has weaponised the US justice system against him, drawing comparisons to tactics employed by Hitler’s Gestapo, media reported.

Trump, now a potential Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential race, made these remarks during a private gathering at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, where he addressed top party leaders and donors, AFP reported citing a US media report.

The recording of his 90-minute speech was provided to US media by a donor who attended the event.

During his speech, Trump accused Democrats of operating what he called a “Gestapo administration,” evoking the infamous secret police force of Nazi Germany. He asserted that this approach was the only way Democrats believed they could secure victory.

Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric has drawn criticism, with previous remarks branding political rivals as “vermin” and likening immigrants to “animals.” However, his comments at Mar-a-Lago reportedly received applause from the audience, which included potential vice presidential picks.

Trump also targeted prosecutors involved in multiple legal cases against him, denouncing what he described as a “witch hunt” orchestrated by Democrats to eliminate him as a presidential rival. While the White House denied any involvement in the legal proceedings, a spokesperson condemned Trump’s remarks, stating that President Biden is focused on uniting Americans around democratic values and the rule of law.

In response, Biden’s campaign characterized Trump’s outburst as indicative of his self-centered campaign, centered on personal grievances and falsehoods.
