‘Baby-Friendly’ Makeover To Home

Baby on the horizon? You might need changes to your interior space. (Source: Unsplash)

A new life brings much happiness, but it also comes with a lot of responsibilities. As soon as parents get in the know, the preparations begin, but soon after they realise that nothing is enough…writes Puja Gupta.

If you are expecting a baby soon and so not understand where to start, read the following tips to help you help yourself. Heena Jain, Design Consultant from Wooden Streets, shares some fantastic ideas to change up you interiors.

Create some comfortable resting spots

Rest is one thing that no mother can compromise with while being pregnant. But, lying on the bed all day, no matter how comfortable, is not possible. So, there should be multiple resting spots and the two best places for the same are, the living room and the balcony. Place a comfortable and easy to use sofa cum bed in the living room, and a comfortable balcony set with a comfortable ottoman or even a swing in the balcony. These two make for a perfect venue to chill, read, watch and rest during the day.

Start with completing storage needs

A baby enhances happiness in a home and storage needs. While no amount is storage is ever enough, extra storage is always welcome, no matter how many options you add. A better approach towards creating sufficient storage space is by adding the right furniture pieces which can blend with your interiors perfectly. There are several options that you can opt for, like a chest of drawers, wooden trunks, compact wardrobes, and many more. So, just be creative and think of the places where you can put these without creating a space crunch.

Make way for the lights and colours

The surge of energy and the happiness that bright colours provide is just amazing. So, try to add some relaxing wall paintings/art, and to make the space brighter as well as illuminating, you can also add some amazing lamps to the existing decor. Small planters placed around different corners also works perfectly for making the place more relaxing and creating happy vibes. The most important of all, choosing the right colour palette. You choose from colours such as baby pink, light blue, light gray, or even yellow. These will help in boost your mood as well as the health of the baby.

Be furniture ready for the future

If you want to give your little one a perfect and friendly home setup, then the perfect time to start with the preparations is now. First of all, make a list of products you will be require after the delivery, the major pieces you need are a crib, changing station, food station, and some others. So, initially make the space for the furniture and after measuring each and every corner precisely, start picking furniture pieces that perfectly fit. Placement is extremely important, so ensure that the furniture is placed adjacent to the walls. As for the baby’s furniture, the center of the living room or the dining area can be the best spots.

Baby proofing is extremely important

Making the home as safe as possible is important for both, the pregnant mother as well as the little one who is all set to become a part of your family. Start with the furniture and try to cover all the sharp ends which you think can cause harm in the future. Get rid of all the loose and exposed wiring as well as switchboards. Avoid placing decor accessories such as small stones, or harmful plastic/rubber figurines, as if misplaced, they can create some serious issues.

.

A plan for the floors

Floors, if set rightly, can be a comfortable abode for both, baby as well as the mother. You can start by placing some comfortable rugs at different places along with some fluffy pillow sets. To make it even better, you can create a beautiful floor bed as well, which can work as a perfect play area for your little one.

Making these changes can be a bit tedious, but the improvement you will observe afterwards will be amazing. You can give it a little time and come up with ideas to further make the space beautiful and customized for your comfort level. Just remember to be creative and enjoy every change you make to the fullest.

Trump pulls all troops out of Afghanistan by Xmas

Reduction of troops and to pull the country out of “endless wars”, have been a part of Trump’s re-election campaign promises…Reports Asian Lite News

US President Donald Trump has hinted that American troops stationed in Afghanistan should be “home by Christmas”. The Decision came following an announcement last month that Washington would withdraw thousands of military personnel from the war-torn country by November.

Taking to Twitter late Wednesday night, the President said: “We should have the small remaining number of our brave men and women serving in Afghanistan home by Christmas.”

No were no other details available immediate on Trump’s remarks.

General Kenneth F. McKenzie, Jr., Commander, US Central Command.

Last month, Kenneth McKenzie, Commander of the US Central Command, told several media outlets that American troops in Afghanistan would also be decreased to about 4,500 level by early November.

In August, Pentagon chief Mark Esper also confirmed that the troops would be lowered to less than 5,000 by the end of November.

The previous month, the Pentagon had said that Washington maintained its force level in Afghanistan at mid-8,000s, meeting the conditions of the US-Taliban agreement signed in late February.

The agreement had called for a full withdrawal of the US military forces from Afghanistan by May 2021 if the Taliban meets the conditions of the deal, including severing ties with terrorist groups.

Reduction of troops and to pull the country out of “endless wars”, have been a part of Trump’s re-election campaign promises.

The war in Afghanistan, which has caused about 2,400 US military deaths, is the longest one in American history.

The Wreckage Of Trump’s Presidency

In his world, the presidency is not enough to satisfy his ego and make up for his dismal failures and complete lack of self-confidence. He needs unchecked power—dictatorial power—so that no one can question his actions, motives, or agenda, however skewed or criminal they may be…writes Dr Alon Ben-Meir

Washington, July. 21 (Xinhua) — Donald Trump takes the stage on the last day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, the United States, July 21, 2016. (Xinhua/Yin Bogu/IANS)

Like many Americans, I have been observing Trump’s rise to power with some perplexity, often asking myself how and why a man of his character became the President of the United States, which is viewed as the most powerful political office in the world. But out of a sense of fairness, I thought that he should be given a chance, as he may be able to rise to the occasion and prove me and others wrong.

Indeed, for someone who seeks adulation, reverence, admiration of his ‘genius,’ respect, and appreciation of his ‘unlimited talents and expertise’ on just about every subject, I wondered, why would he not use the power of the presidency to earn all that he desperately wants to be recognized for?

After all, despite his character flaws, he made it to the White House. And yet having reached the pinnacle of power, he still wants more, when in fact the presidency, regardless of constitutional constraints, provides him with all the power he needs to effect revolutionary constructive change—if he only willed it.

Over the past four years, I devoted over 50 of my weekly articles and essays to the Trump presidency, in a way chronologizing some of his statements, the issues he tackled, his policy initiatives, his ideological leanings, and certainly his appetite for making false statements, misrepresenting facts, and creating his own alternate reality.

Before long, I realized that this man is simply irredeemable. He has shown that he is plainly unfit to hold the office of the presidency, which carries an awesome power both domestically and internationally. He did not “make America great again;” he tarnished America’s greatness for much of the world to see.

Many psychiatrists and psychologists who have analyzed his behavior, public utterances, and tweets have unanimously concluded that Trump is a psychopath, a pathological liar, uncompassionate, narcissist, greedy, and shallow. He sees things only in black and white, and never cares to understand the nuances of any issue before him.

Here lies Trump’s sickness. In his world, the presidency is not enough to satisfy his ego and make up for his dismal failures and complete lack of self-confidence. He needs unchecked power—dictatorial power—so that no one can question his actions, motives, or agenda, however skewed or criminal they may be.

Sooner than later, Trump will leave office disgracefully, leaving behind the wreckage of a century, the extent of which none of his predecessors have remotely left in their wake. He stained the office of the presidency, as he brought nothing but shame and disdain to the most prestigious office in the land which is looked upon with awe and admiration around the world.

It will take years, and in some cases decades, to repair the extensive damage he inflicted on our country. We must now attend to healing our deep wounds that tore us apart before we can realize, once again, the American dream.

***********
Since I submitted the manuscript of the book nearly two months ago, Trump’s behavior has become ever more astonishing. He has consistently delegitimized the elections, sabotaged the postal service in order to interfere with mail-in voting, which millions of Americans are turning to due to the coronavirus pandemic, and openly refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power should he lose the election (let alone commit to accepting the result should he lose).

Trump campaign announces second term agenda.

This past week Trump contracted the coronavirus, along with many of those around him, a development that should not be at all surprising given his refusal to engage in social distancing or wear a mask, or any other preventative measures recommended by the CDC. Recklessness, stubbornness, arrogance and ineptitude have characterized him and his administration since the pandemic began, and there seems to be no bottom to his irresponsibility.

During the first presidential debate, Trump did everything he could to debase such an important part of the election process that allows the American public to hear what the candidates for the highest office in the land have to say. He interrupted former Vice President Biden nearly 130 times, made scores of misleading statements and said outright lies, and “bragged” about an economy in tatters. He spoke about the coronavirus in the past tense, while new infections and deaths continue to rise daily—over 7 million infected and over 210,000 dead.

To be sure, Trump behaved during the debate just the way Biden characterized him—a clown; unhinged, uncaring, and dismissive with an uncanny hostile demeanor. Millions of viewers just like me cringed in their seats, ashamed to have such a loose cannon, and an ignorant and self-conceited man once again a candidate for the presidency after four years of his disastrous performance.

It is now the responsibility of every American who is eligible to vote, who cares and loves this country, to say NO. No to Trump and his enablers in the Republican Party. The damage that he and his stooges have inflicted on our democracy and institutions is hard to assess. If he is given another four years, he will shatter every pillar on which this republic has rested, causing incalculable wounds from which we will not recover for decades.

India’s Real Estate Sector Limping Back: Report

The Indian real estate sector seems to be recovering from a slump in demand during the nationwide lockdown as sales during the July-September quarter jumped over 100 per cent on a quarter-on-quarter basis across seven major cities, according to a report by PropEquity.

Housing sales across these seven cities during the third quarter of 2020 stood at 50,983 units, compared with 24,936 units in the previous quarter.

NCR-Delhi witnessed 295 per cent home sales growth in Q3, while other cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and Pune clocked 86, 131, 159, 89, 70, and 72 per cent respectively.

However, on a year-on-year basis, sales fell by 35 per cent and new launches were down by 30 per cent.

“The Indian real estate sector is showing some recovery as many projects were launched in the last quarter. With various schemes and offers, developers were able to clear significant inventory. As we move into the festive season, we forecast this recovery to continue with more offers, discounts, and attractive payment schemes to attract more customers,” Samir Jasuja, Founder and Managing Director at PropEquity, said.

Speaking on the National Capital Region market, Ankush Kaul, President of Sales and Marketing at Ambience Group, said: “The NCR market, being one of the biggest in the country, continues to be resilient and presents a new level of optimism to the industry. Being well-supplied across all segments of housing, it caters to all categories of home buyers like those seeking affordable, premium, or luxury homes. This remains the biggest USP of this market. On account of the upcoming festive months, it is likely that the sector will see a further revival in terms of sales numbers.”

Turkey Calls For Urgent Reconciliation With EU

Turkey’s top diplomat called for an urgent dialogue between Ankara and the European Union (EU) to address rising tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean, Libya, and developments in the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict.

In an interview with Italian news agency Agenzia Nova during his recent visit to Rome, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavusoglu said he considered Italy “a strong NATO ally and a balanced partner in regional issues.”

He added, however, that Turkey was disappointed by the outcome of the EU Special Council on October 1-2, which he believed “did not yield the expected results.”

Çavusoglu said that that the summit’s conclusions “were designed again to put the solidarity within the union before international law and equity,” accusing the EU of having been “once more taken hostage by the maximalist demands of Greece and Greek Cypriots.”

Tensions have been running high for months as Greece has disputed Turkey’s rights to energy exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean, Hurriyet Daily News reported.

Ankara sent out drill ships to explore for energy on its continental shelf, asserting its rights in the region as well as those of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

EU countries have been trying to mediate between Turkey and Greece over their conflicting demands.

Turkey says that Greece’s maritime territory claims in the region, based on small islands near the Turkish coast, are in defiance of the international law.

“Turkey is the most developed and the biggest electricity and gas market in the region,” Çavusoglu said. “It is not possible to establish a functional and fruitful mechanism in the Eastern Mediterranean by ignoring these facts.”

Çavusoglu said there was “an urgent need to normalize our relations with the EU,” noting that Turkey and the EU must have common short-term goals, including more engagement and dialogue.

Addressing the Upper Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Turkish minister stressed that “the only viable solution to the conflict goes through the total withdrawal of Armenian forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories in line with the international law.”

He noted that “we need more than just another cease-fire,” calling for “a clear call on Armenia to abandon its expansionism.”

The ongoing clashes began on Sept. 27, when Armenian forces targeted civilian Azerbaijani settlements and military positions in the region, leading to casualties.

Relations between the two former Soviet republics have been tense since 1991, when the Armenian military occupied Upper Karabakh, also known as Nagorno-Karabakh, an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan.

George Floyd murder suspect freed on $1m bail

Court records show Derek Chauvin posted a $1m (£774,000) bond and was released on Wednesday morning….Reports Asian Lite News

The former US police officer charged with the murder of unarmed black man George Floyd has been released from prison on bail.

Court records show Derek Chauvin posted a $1m (£774,000) bond and was released on Wednesday morning.

The white officer was filmed pressing his knee on Floyd’s neck for almost eight minutes before he died on May 25.

Floyd’s death led to global protests and calls for police reform, spurred by the Black Lives Matter movement.

Chauvin was fired from his job and now awaits trial in March next year on charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter. Three other officers – J Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao – were also fired and charged with aiding and abetting murder.

All four officers accused in connection with the killing of Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, have now posted bail and are free until their trial next year.

Chauvin had been at the maximum-security prison in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota, since late May.

In June, a judge set a bail of $1.25m with no preconditions, or $1m with conditions which include Chauvin not contacting Floyd’s family, surrendering his firearms and not working in law enforcement or security as he awaits trial.

Chauvin was released on conditional bail, which court records showed was guaranteed by a bail-bond agency, CBS Minnesota reported.

In the US, bail-bond agents promise to pay authorities the full bail amount for defendants if they cannot afford do so or fail to appear at court.

France decries Turkish involvement in Karabakh

France has stepped up its voice against Turkey as it accused Ankara of “military involvement” on the side of Azerbaijan in its conflict with Armenia over the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region, reports Arab News.

The statement made by the French Foreign Minister on this regard has become the latest volley in a war of words between Paris and Ankara.

“The new aspect is that there is military involvement by Turkey which risks fuelling the internationalisation of the conflict,” French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told parliament.

Armenia and Azerbaijan, two former Soviet republics, have for decades been locked in a conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, an ethnically Armenian area which broke away from Azerbaijan in a 1990s war that cost about 30,000 lives.
