Sivamani- Big B Combo To Enthrall Music Lovers

Sivamani.

Renowned percussionist Shivamani made his debut as a film music director with the recent OTT release, Atkan Chatkan, and among his glittering line-up of playback singers was screen icon Amitabh Bachchan.

He says he could only think of Bachchan’s voice after composing the song “Daata shakti de” for the film, to bring alive the number’s spiritual, motivational and inspirational tone.

“I have to mention how the whole song happened and why Mr Bachchan sir. We wanted to create a song that goes beyond a religious song and be more of a spiritual, motivational, inspirational song. Especially the crisis that we have been through in the last few months, we need music that makes us stand up, motivate to fight and not give up. ‘Daata shakti de’ came from that thought,” the master percussionist told.

While composing, he thought of Amitabh Bachchan “because for so many decades, even right now, at this very moment, he is an inspiration for people across the country”.

“To try my luck, I had a word with him and sent the song to him with a request if he would like to lend his voice,” he said, adding: “I cannot emphasise enough how lucky I felt that he heard the composition and very happily sung the song for us. He is a very good singer, I would say.”

“I would also like to mention that he did not charge any money! It was the same thing with Hariharan anna and Sonu Nigam ji (other leading singers who recorded for the film), because, again, they are also some of the greatest talents of the nation. But they were so generous with me that they lent their voice because they believed in the song and the story of the film,” Shivamani noted.

The song is written by Runaa Rizvii Shivamani who, incidentally, made her debut as a film lyricist with the number.

“This was my first written song, composed by Shivamani and sung by Amitabh Bachchan. I could not have asked for more. Initially, some prominent lyricist was supposed to write the song but since they were occupied and could not accommodate time, Shiv ji said why not me,” recalled Runaa.

She added: “Being a singer and coming from a musical family, I always had a flair of writing in Hindi and Urdu. But I am a vocalist, and had never written anything professionally. So I wasn’t sure. However, everything fell in place and the song came out right.”

The film is on a 12-year-old chai delivery boy named Guddu, whose passion is to observe, listen and create new sounds. Rising beyond his daily mundane life, he forms a band with three other street children.

The film featured child pianist Lydian Nadhaswaram, who is also a protege of music maestro AR Rahman, who has presented the film.

Asked about his reunion with Rahman for the film, Shivamani replied: “Rahman is my brother, what do you mean by reuniting? We are always exchanging (ideas), and have never lost touch. Yes, the intention behind the film was to celebrate dreams. Most web series and shows online are very toxic in nature. He was very happy to watch the film, and that is why decided to present the film. Rahman met me when he was 10 years old, and I am just a couple of years elder to him. In a way, we have grown up as friends, together. He is family.”

“Atkan Chatkan” streams on Zee5.

India announces 270 flights from UAE in october

India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation on Monday announced a packed schedule of 270 repatriation flights out of the UAE commencing 1st October to bring back its citizens who wish to return home to face disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Ministry said its new schedule, which will run until 25th October, constitutes the seventh phase of its repatriation mission, known as Vande Bharat. Trump firm on ‘drug test’ demand

US President Donald Trump has reiterated a call that he and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden should be tested for drugs before the two rivals come face-to-face during their first debate on Tuesday.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday, the President said: “I will be strongly demanding a Drug Test of Sleepy Joe Biden prior to, or after, the Debate on Tuesday night. Naturally, I will agree to take one also.

“His debate performances have been record setting uneven, to put it mildly. Only drugs could have caused this discrepancy?”

Even earlier, Trump has put out multiple calls for the candidates to take drug tests ahead of the 90-minute debate scheduled to take place on the campus of the Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University in Iowa, The Hill news website reported.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Biden and Trump will neither shake hands or do an elbow bump at the debate.

Sources told Politco news that Trump, Biden and debate moderator, Fox News host Chris Wallace, will not wear masks.

According to the sources, the debate will see the participation of only 75 to 80 people who will be tested for the virus prior to them attending the event.

The first question will go to Trump, who will be standing to the right, while the former Vice President will be to the left.

UAE launches first environmental satellite

The United Arab Emirates will launch its first environmental nanosatellite on Monday which was developed by students of Khalifa University, KU, and the American University of Ras Al Khaima, AURAK.

As part of the UAE Space Agency’s efforts to drive experiential learning in universities, MeznSat will be carried to a low Earth orbit altitude of 575km from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia by a Soyuz-2 rocket at 13:20 CET, 15:20 UAE time. The students will oversee MeznSat’s control operations from the primary ground station at KU’s Yahsat Space Laboratory and from the secondary ground station in AURAK.

The students successfully completed several environmental tests two months prior to the launch that include the final fit checks, the thermal vacuum test, and the vibration test signalling the satellite’s readiness for launch.

The satellite’s design and development involved 30 students across both universities and was completed over three years. Their role included the design, development, testing and verification of MeznSat.

The satellite will measure and detect the most prevalent greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide, CO2, and methane. The growing release of these gases into the atmosphere causes a rise in temperature on Earth.

Dr Eng Mohammed Nasser Al Ahbabi, Director General of UAESA, stressed that MeznSat’s imminent take-off on schedule testified to the ability of UAE’s youth as well as the potential of students majoring in STEM subjects to translate the UAE’s space exploration ambitions into.

“These projects seek to develop national capabilities and enhance scientific research in universities, bringing up a new generation of Emirati engineers ready to join in the space sector. This direction by UAESA aligns with the keen interest of the wise UAE leadership in engaging the youth in scientific projects and giving them the experience needed for the job market.”Dr Al Ahbabi added,

said, “We are delighted to see our students’ successful contribution to the new MeznSat nanosatellite, a collaboration with the UAE Space Agency. We plan to develop three more nanosatellites in the future. These achievements showcase Khalifa University’s dedication to enhancing innovation in sectors that are strategic to the UAE. Our students have the opportunity to contribute to these projects during their studies. Their research innovations will have a great impact on the future of the UAE’s space sector. We look forward to witnessing similar achievements, as we provide our students with an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities.”said Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Executive Vice-President, Khalifa University of Science and Technology,

Lockdowns won’t stop third Covid 19 wave: UK Scientist

A top scientist has warned that the UK could face a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic and believes that lockdowns could only delay the crisis and but it would not permanently stop the disease from spreading.

When asked about a third wave in a TV interview on Sunday, Professor Mark Woolhouse an infectious diseases expert at Edinburgh University, said: “Well that is entirely possible. The scenario mentioned earlier does actually include this possibility.

“This is another demonstration that lockdown doesn’t solve the problem, it defers it. That is why we need some kind of cavalry on the horizon.

“If we think a vaccine isn’t going to be available in six months, or 12 months or two years, or whenever it may be, we do need alternatives.”

The scientist’s remarks came as the UK has appeared to be in the grip of a second wave, six months after national lockdown restrictions were initially imposed in March, reports the Metro newspaper.

As of Monday, the country has reported a total of 437,517 confirmed cases, with 42,077 deaths.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is currently facing a huge backlash from Conservative backbenchers for pushing through coronavirus restrictions without consulting MPs first.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden however, defended the government’s new restrictions, including a 10 p.m. curfew for pubs and restaurants, insisting there was “definitely science” behind them.

More than 17,000,000 people, around a quarter of the population, were subject to tougher coronavirus restrictions with new measures introduced in Cardiff and Swansea Sunday evening onwards.

People have been banned from meeting others they do not live with indoors and will not be allowed to go into or leave the areas without a reasonable excuse.

Households in Wigan, Stockport, Blackpool and Leeds have also been ordered to stop mixing.

Stricter rules are already in force across large parts of north-west England, West Yorkshire, the North East and the Midlands, as well as parts of west Scotland.

Hard Times Ahead For Pakistan

Imran Khan

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has virtually dropped a bombshell on the Imran Khan government by openly stating that the country was on the verge of being blacklisted by the FATF because it had been forced by the military leadership to get “involved in external issues”...reports SPS PANNU

Sharif, whose third term as Prime Minister extended from 2013 to 2017, had incurred the wrath of the generals as they did not want him to take action against Islamist militants who were being used by the army to carry out cross-border terror attacks in India and Afghanistan. Consequently, Sharif was hounded and had to eventually quit.

“When we pointed out that our friendly countries were warning us about our involvement in external issues which was being done at the behest of the military, we were attacked and it was turned into a scandal,” a Reuters report from Islamabad quoted Sharif as saying. He was addressing a Pakistani opposition parties conference on Sunday via a video link from London.

“Now, Pakistan has to deal with the shame of trying to meet targets set by platforms like the FATF,” Sharif said. He was referring to the Financial Action Task Force which is the global watchdog working to combat money laundering and terror finance.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

“The military’s interference has reached a point where, from being a state within a state, it was now a state above the state. This is the root cause of all our problems,” the former PM said.

Sharif’s statement comes at a time when Pakistan is desperately trying to avoid being blacklisted by the FATF at a meeting scheduled for next month. In the FATF meeting in February, Pakistan had gained an extra four months to comply with international anti-terrorism financing norms but was warned that if it failed to fall in line it would be blacklisted. The FATF said it was concerned that Islamabad had again failed to complete an internationally agreed action plan.

Inclusion on the FATF blacklist would put Pakistan in the same category as Iran and North Korea and mean it would not be able to get any loans from international financial institutions such as the IMF and the World Bank. It would also face problems in financial dealings with other countries.

Although Sharif was removed as prime minister by a Supreme Court ruling against him over allegations of amassing personal wealth, it is an open secret in Pakistan that the army exercises considerable influence over the judiciary as well.

For most of Pakistan’s history, there has been either a military dictator at the helm of affairs or, when there was an elected government, a parallel government was being run by the military, Sharif also said at the conference which was attended by leaders of nearly all major opposition parties.

“Our struggle isn’t against Imran Khan but with the forces that have installed his illegitimate government to power. While political leaders were consistently victimised in the name of accountability, army dictators got away despite subverting the Constitution and committing all sorts of crimes,” he added.

In contrast, he said, there were no accountability proceedings against army generals and gave the example of Asim Saleem Bajwa, a retired general and now head of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority, whose illicit wealth was exposed by the media but no action was taken.

“We want elected leaders to run the affairs of the country, to manage the economy and to decide on the foreign policy,” said Sharif.

He also criticized the Imran Khan government’s foreign policy, saying Pakistan has become internationally isolated. He took foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to task for straining Pakistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation over the Kashmir issue. Sharif said the country’s economy had crashed, inflation is up while the Pakistani rupee is at a historic low and economic growth had slowed down sharply.

Sharif also demanded accountability of Khan’s own assets, the overseas assets of his sister and of those close to the Prime Minister who had benefited from the sugar shortage in the country.

An angry Imran Khan, on his part, has said that allowing Sharif to leave the country for medical treatment in the UK was a mistake and his government regretted the decision. Sharif was allowed to go to London in November last year after the Lahore High Court granted him a four-week permission to go abroad for treatment.

Khan has admitted in a TV interview that an Arab royal had asked the government to let Sharif leave, but did not divulge any name saying it involved “international relations”.

Trump paid ‘nothing’ in taxes for 10 years before 2016 polls

US President Donald Trump did not pay his income tax for 10 of the 15 years before the 2016 election, and only $750 the year he ran for the presidency and in his first year in the White House, a media report has revealed.

The New York Times newspaper revealed this information on Sunday after obtaining Trump’s tax information for the last 20 years, The Hill news website reported.

The Times said it reviewed tax returns relating to the President and the companies owned by the Trump Organization going back to the 1990s, as well as his personal returns for 2016 and 2017, reports the BBC.

It said the President paid just $750 in income taxes in both 2016 and 2017, while he paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the past 15 years, “largely because he reported losing much more money than he made”.

In a statement to the New York Times, Trump Organization lawyer Alan Garten said that “most, if not all, of the facts appear to be inaccurate”.

(190208) — WASHINGTON, Feb. 8, 2019 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump departs from the White House in Washington D.C., the United States, on Feb. 8, 2019. (Xinhua/Ting Shen)

“Over the past decade, President Trump has paid tens of millions of dollars in personal taxes to the federal government, including paying millions in personal taxes since announcing his candidacy in 2015,” Garten was quoted as saying to the newspaper.

Later in the day during a White House briefing, Trump denied the allegation and called the report “totally fake news”.

“Actually I paid tax. And you’ll see that as soon as my tax returns – it’s under audit, they’ve been under audit for a long time,” the BBC quoted the President as saying.

“The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) does not treat me well they treat me very badly. You have people in the IRS, they treat me very badly,” he added.

Trump has faced legal challenges for refusing to share documents concerning his fortune and business.

He is the first US President since the 1970s not to make his tax returns public, though this is not required by law.

Meanwhile, an ad released by Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign slammed Trump over The New York Times’ revelation, The Hill news website repored.

Without any narration, the ad released on Twitter late Sunday night, features the faces of a number of American taxpayers and their corresponding tax burdens, before comparing their payments to the $750 reportedly paid by Trump during his first year in office.

Other Democrats also took to social media to slam Trump.

In a tweet, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren said: “Donald Trump paid just $750 in income taxes in 2016 and 2017. He knows better than anyone that there’s one set of rules for the wealthy and giant corporations and another for hardworking Americans—and instead of using his power to fix it, he’s taken advantage of it at every turn.”

Also taking to the micro-blogging site, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders wrote: “Shock of shocks. Donald Trump, the self-proclaimed billionaire, received a $72.9 million tax refund from the IRS while not paying a nickel in federal income taxes in 10 out of 15 years.

Yep. Trump l-o-v-e-s corporate socialism for himself, rugged capitalism for everyone else.”
