UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has extended congratulations to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on his swearing-in for a new presidential term.


His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, along with His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, also conveyed similar messages to the Egyptian President.

Emirates Extend Wishes to Egyptian Prez

The Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates have individually conveyed congratulatory messages for the same.

These messages were sent by Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi of Sharjah, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi of Ajman, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi of Fujairah, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla of Umm Al Qaiwain, and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi of Ras Al Khaimah. Additionally, similar messages were sent by their respective Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers to the Egyptian President.

Modi lands in Cairo for first State visit to Egypt

This is PM Modi’s first visit to Egypt as Prime Minister and the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister after 26 years, reports Asian Lite News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Egypt’s capital Cairo for the first state visit on the second leg of his two-nation tour.

In a special honour PM Modi was received by his Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly at the airport.

PM Modi arrived in Cairo for after wrapping up a “successful visit to the US.” The visit is at the invitation of Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt, which he extended to PM Modi in January when he attended the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi as chief guest.

This is PM Modi’s first visit to Egypt as Prime Minister and the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister after 26 years.

Upon arriving in Cairo, PM Modi was greeted with a ceremonial welcome and guard of honour and in a special honour was received by his Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly at the airport.

PM Modi also inspected a guard of honour on his arrival.

During his two-day June 24 to 25 State visit, he will hold a roundtable meeting with the Egyptian PM and also meet President El-Sisi.

Later on, PM Modi will interact with the Indian community.

PM Modi is scheduled to meet the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam, today and will also interact with Egyptian thought leaders.

On Sunday, PM Modi will visit Al-Hakim Mosque. The Prime Minister will spend nearly half an hour at the Al-Hakim Mosque– a historic and prominent mosque in Cairo named after Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah (985-1021), the 16th Fatimid caliph.

During his Egypt tour, PM Modi will also visit the Heliopolis War Grave cemetery to pay tribute to the Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice fighting for Egypt during the First World War.

The visit is of significance as Egypt has traditionally been one of India’s most important trading partners in the African continent. India-Egypt Bilateral Trade Agreement has been in operation since March 1978 and is based on the Most Favored Nation clause, according to the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Furthermore, India and Egypt share a close political understanding based on a long history of contact and cooperation in bilateral, regional and global issues.

Meanwhile, in the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended various events and met top Indian and American CEOs including Tesla CEO Elon Musk. He received a ceremonial welcome and guard of honour at the White House upon his arrival.

He was hosted by US President Joe Biden as well as First Lady Jill Biden for a state dinner at the White House, as well as a State Luncheon by the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and US Vice President Kamala Harris. (ANI)

Indian community upbeat about Modi’s first visit to Egypt

Indian community in Egypt is ecstatic and upbeat about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to the country. The community members said that they were waiting for PM Modi for the last nine years ever since he became the Prime Minister of India and are excited to welcome him.

After concluding his four-day State visit to the United States, PM Modi on Friday (local time) departed for Egypt. This will be a two-day and his first tour to Egypt. Speaking to ANI, Deepti Singh, President of the Indian Community in Egypt, said, “It’s going to be great to have PM Narendra Modi here, and we are very excited to welcome him. The Indian community in Egypt has been waiting for him to visit Egypt ever since he became the Prime Minister. Everyone is preparing for this visit.”

“People of Egypt like India because of civilization and Bollywood. We are proud of the work done by PM Modi, starting from infrastructure to COVID-19 vaccine. Modi ji has proved his mettle and is one of the most powerful leaders of the world. Our image in Egypt has got better due to PM Modi. We now feel proud and honoured when people tell us that you are coming from the biggest economy,” she said.

Speaking to ANI, Udham Singh, Ex-President of the Indian Community in Egypt, said, “I have been living here for 20 years. The growth made by India in the last 9 years. The impact is felt across the world, Egypt too is not untouched. India has made progress in infrastructure, industries, and every aspect of life and technology. Due to the global image of PM Modi, we know that his visit, discussions and our presence in Egypt will further strengthen the ties between the two nations.”

He further said, “Egyptians are very warm to us. I am sure the visit will enhance the warmth and the tourism between the two nations will increase.” Speaking about the Indian diaspora’s excitement about PM Modi’s visit, he said, “300-400 community members will attend the programme. Singh said that 100-200 members of the Indian community are expected to receive PM Modi.”

Udham Singh also noted that they are “proud” that PM Modi is respected on global stages, like the US Congress.

Yashveer Singh, another member of the Indian community, said that he is really “proud” of PM Modi. “This will be the first time I will see my Prime Minister. I am feeling very good that I will in-person see a well-respected person from India. I am happy to get a glimpse of him,” he said while speaking to ANI.

Yashveer Singh noted that the ties between the two nations will be strengthened by the visit of PM Modi, and said, “Both countries are old civilizations and work in similar ways.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for Egypt for a two-day visit. He tweeted, “Concluding a very special USA visit, where I got to take part in numerous programmes and interactions aimed at adding momentum to the India-USA friendship. Our nations will keep working together to make our planet a better place for the coming generations.”

Sisi lauds India’s G20 Presidency

Exuding confidence in India, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said under New Delhi’s presidency, the G20 will be successful in achieving its goal, the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

Egyptian President, who was the chief guest at the Republic Day Parade, held discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday and the two countries decided to work together during India’s Presidency and reiterated that the interests and priorities of the Global South be given due attention and focus in key global forums, including the G20. During his visit from January 24-27, President El-Sisi attended India’s 74th Republic Day parade as the chief guest. He was the first Egyptian premier to have been invited to the Republic Day parade.

Following the parade, Sisi attended the ‘At Home’ reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan, hosted by President Droupadi Murmu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, former President Ram Nath Kovind, former Vice President Hamid Ansari, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, EAM S Jaishankar, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Union Ministers, and other dignitaries were also present in the ‘At Home’ reception.

After the ‘At Home’ reception, El-Sisi met Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in New Delhi.

According to the joint statement, India and Egypt had reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism, the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law, the founding values of the Non-Aligned Movement, and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states.

The two sides took into consideration the cultural and social sensitivities of all states and, in this regard, they agreed to work together to promote and safeguard these basic principles through regular consultations and coordination at bilateral and multilateral levels.

As per the statement, PM Modi and President El-Sisi reiterated their common resolve to promote the values of peace, tolerance, and inclusiveness and make concerted efforts to fight terrorism and violent extremist ideologies.

They emphasised the need for a holistic approach to counter terrorism and violent extremism, which includes inter alia disrupting the use of the internet and social media and preventing the use of religious centres to radicalise youth and recruit terrorist cadres.

Both leaders also agreed on the need to hold the JWG on Counter-Terrorism on regular basis to exchange information and best practices. The two sides further agreed on enhancing interaction between their respective National Security Councils, as per the official statement.

Talking about the financial data, both the leaders appreciated the strong bilateral economic engagement and expressed satisfaction at the current level of bilateral trade at a record high of USD 7.26 billion in 2021-22, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.

They expressed confidence that a bilateral trade target of USD 12 billion could be achieved within the next five years by both countries, by diversifying the trade basket and focusing on value addition.

The Egyptian side welcomed the flow of more Indian investments and promises to offer incentives and facilities as per applicable regulations and frameworks. On its part, India underlined its support for this approach by encouraging its companies.

The Egyptian side also considered the possibility of allocating a special area for the Indian industries in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCEZ), and the Indian side can arrange for the master plan, according to the statement.

The two leaders welcomed the signing of the MoU for cooperation in the field of defence during the visit of India’s Minister of Defence Shri Rajnath Singh to Egypt in September 2022.

They appreciated that bilateral military-to-military cooperation has reached a new level and agreed to further enhance and deepen defence cooperation in all fields, especially by exchanging technology between defence industries, widening the footprint of military exercises, and exchanging best practices. They emphasised the need for co-production in the defence sector and discussed specific proposals in the framework of the JDC.

Prime Minister Modi and President El-Sisi underscored the importance of open, free, stable, accessible, safe, trusted and accountable cyberspace, as enablers for economic growth and innovation. In particular, they reaffirmed a multi-stakeholder approach to internet governance and their wish to deepen deliberations on the applicability of international law to cyberspace and set norms of responsible behaviour of States, in light of grave security challenges posed by a worrying increase in the malicious uses of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). While highlighting their wish to increase bilateral cooperation on ICT-related issues, the two leaders welcomed the signing of the MoU on Cooperation in the area of Cyber Security.

Egypt also took note of India’s candidature for a non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2029-29, the statement read.

The two leaders highlighted the leading role of India and Egypt in the maintenance of international peace and security by being among the ten largest troop and police contributing countries to the United Nations peacekeeping missions. They reaffirmed the importance of ensuring the participation of troop-contributing countries in the decision-making process of such operations.

President El-Sisi extended a cordial invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit Egypt and the two leaders said they looked forward to continuing interactions at all levels and fora. (ANI)

Sisi arrives in India for R-Day celebrations

This is the first time the President of Egypt has been invited as the chief guest on Republic Day, reports Asian Lite News

India is all set to celebrate its 74th Republic Day on January 26. As part of it, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday and was accorded a warm welcome. He will be the chief guest at the Republic Day parade to be held in Kartavya Path in New Delhi.

He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including five ministers and senior officials for his official visit from January 24-27.

As he arrived in New Delhi, the traditional folk dance is being performed to welcome Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

It is pertinent to mention that this is the first time the President of Egypt has been invited as the chief guest on Republic Day.

Notably, India and Egypt are celebrating 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations this year. India has also invited Egypt as a ‘guest country” during its G20 Presidency.

According to the statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs, Sisi will be accorded a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Wednesday.

He is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar among others, with whom he will hold a meeting at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, as per a media advisory released by the MEA.

On the same day, the Egyptian president will lay a wreath at the Rajghat, the memorial of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

He will hold a meeting with PM Modi and discuss bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest during his stay.

The same evening, President Droupadi Murmu will host a state banquet in honour of the visiting dignitary.

On Republic Day, Sisi will witness the Republic Day Parade as the chief guest. A military contingent of the Egyptian Army will march on the Rajpath along with other contingents.

Sisi will attend the “at home” reception by President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan. He will also hold a meeting with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. He will interact with the business community in India. Sisi will return to Cairo on January 27.

“This is for the first time that the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt has been invited as Chief Guest on our Republic Day. A military contingent from Egyptian Army will also participate in the Republic Day parade,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official statement on Monday.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated, “The forthcoming visit of President Sisi is expected to further strengthen and deepen the time-tested partnership between India and Egypt.”

India and Egypt have “warm and friendly relations marked by civilizational, cultural and economic linkages and deep-rooted people-to-people ties”, as per the MEA statement.

The ties between the two nations are based on shared cultural values, commitment to strengthening economic growth, and cooperation in various sectors, including defence, security and convergence on regional and global issues. (ANI)
