Chennaiyin FC Clinches Thrilling 2-0 Victory Against Bengaluru FC

The second half began on a positive note for the home side as Crivellaro drew a foul inside the box and refree pointed to the penalty spot before Murray found the back of the net with an attempt in the bottom left corner…reports Asian Lite News

Rafael Crivellaro and Jordan Murray were on target as Chennaiyin FC registered an exciting 2-0 win against Bengaluru FC in the 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) match here at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Wednesday.

The Marina Machans opened the scoring through a goal from Crivellaro in the sixth minute, while Murray found the back of the net in the 50th minute to take the home side inside top-6 of the points table with 12 points.

Chennaiyin made a frantic start to the match and earned a penalty in the sixth minute after Bengaluru’s right-back Namgyal Bhutia touched the ball with hand inside the 18-yard box while attempting a header. Crivellaro then converted the penalty with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner.

The midfielder got another opportunity the very next minute from outside the box. However, this time, Bengaluru’s goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu made a fine save to deny a goal. Ayush Adhikari’s attempt just missed the right side of the post in the 23rd minute before Murray found himself in the centre of the action and hit a shot on target.

Sandhu had to make another save in the top left corner in the 37th minute when Vincy Barretto hit a ferocious shot from the left side of the box. Chennaiyin’s goalkeeper Debjit Majumder was called into action on the verge of halftime as he saved a header from Aleksandar Jovanovic in the 40th minute.

The second half began on a positive note for the home side as Crivellaro drew a foul inside the box and refree pointed to the penalty spot before Murray found the back of the net with an attempt in the bottom left corner.

Bengaluru intensified their search for a goal after getting two down and Suresh Wangjam hit the side-netting in the 64th minute of the contest. Sunil Chhetri’s attempt missed the left side of the goal as well.

Majumder was on top of his game in the last 10 minutes, making two fine saves on attempts by Sivasakthi Narayanan in the 80th and 83rd minutes to keep a clean sheet in the match.

Chennaiyin FC will now face Punjab FC away from home on Monday, 18 December, while Bengaluru FC will take on Jamshedpur FC on Saturday, 16 December.

Chennaiyin FC, Kerala Blasters share spoils in tightly-contested draw

This time a dipping and swerving effort came straight at the keeper from the central part of the pitch before it was palmed over the bar again in the 21st minute…reports Asian Lite News

The five-match winning streak of Kerala Blasters FC came to an end on Monday after a tightly-contested 1-1 draw against Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, here on Monday.

Sahal Abdul Samad had put the Blasters in front in the first half before Vincy Barreto returned to score against his former club with an equaliser in the second.

Despite playing a part in five of the seven goals against NorthEast United FC last week, Abdenasser El Khayati was benched as Sourav Das came into the starting XI. The vacant foreigner spot was taken by Vafa Hakhamaneshi as Gurmukh Singh dropped to the bench. The other two changes saw Ajith Kumar and Barretto coming in to replace Mohammad Rafique and Rahim Ali.

Inside a minute, Adrian Luna tried to lift a free kick over the keeper from the left flank, but it was palmed over the bar by Debjit Majumder. Luna replicated the shot he attempted in the first minute from a long-range free kick. This time a dipping and swerving effort came straight at the keeper from the central part of the pitch before it was palmed over the bar again in the 21st minute.

The Blasters went ahead Midway through the first half when Kaliuzhnyi spotted Samad’s run and played a sublime through ball into the path of the winger. Chennaiyin goalkeeper Majumder came off his line to close the angle for Samad, but the 25-year-old cleverly dinked it over the charging keeper to score his third goal of the season.

In the 27th minute, Chennaiyin’s Vanspaul curled a promising cross into the box from the left flank and Duker was set to score before Nishu Kumar’s crucial intercepting header put the ball out for a corner.

Three minutes into the second half, Chennaiyin’s half-time substitute Ali was picked out in the box by an inch-perfect ball from Vanspaul. The striker’s first-time volley was parried straight into the path of Baretto by Prabhsukhan Gill. From close range, the midfielder smashed it home against his former club.

In the 81st minute, substitute El Khayati shrugged off his marker in midfield and slid a ball through to Sliskovic down the right flank. As Anirudh Thapa darted inside the box, Sliskovic scuffed his cross, and the ball went out for a goal kick. That signalled the end of any major attacking moves from either team in the final few minutes of the game.

The solitary point takes Kerala Blasters from sixth to fourth, ahead of Odisha FC on goal difference, and just a point off ATK Mohun Bagan.

The Blasters will return home to host Odisha FC on December 26. Chennaiyin FC remain in seventh, now four points off the final playoff spot. The Marina Machans will travel to the west coast to face Mumbai City FC on December 24.

Chennaiyin FC secure first home win of the season

The lead did not last long as Chennaiyin substitutes — El Khayati and Baretto — combined in the very next minute to put the Marina Machans ahead again…reports Asian Lite News

Chennaiyin FC earned their first victory at home this season with a 3-1 win over Jamshedpur FC in a Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, here on Saturday.

Petar Sliskovic broke the deadlock in the first half before Ishan Pandita equalised in the final quarter. Substitutes Vincy Baretto and Abdenasser El Khayati struck late for the Marina Machans as Jamshedpur fell to their third consecutive loss for the first time since the 2020-21 season.

Both sides made four changes to their respective lineups. Anirudh Thapa, Rahim Ali and Jiteshwor Singh dropped out of the squad for the hosts, while El Khayati dropped to the bench. Vafa Hakhamaneshi returned in the heart of defence as Jockson Dhas, Sajal Bag, and Sourav Das were given their first starts.

Daniel Chukwu, Laldinpuia Pachuau and Laldinliana Renthlei were all out injured for Jamshedpur FC, while Harry Sawyer dropped to the bench. Farukh Choudhary, Wellington Priori, Muhammed Uvais and Pandita were all drafted into the starting lineup. The injury-riddled Red Miners were dealt another injury blow in the 16th minute when Priori was stretchered off.

To make things worse, Jamshedpur FC went behind in the 27th minute. Julius Duker played a through ball to Dhas, who galloped forward in acres of space before getting his shot away. The midfielder’s attempt was parried by the keeper straight to Sliskovic, who stayed alert and headed the ball home from close range.

The game burst into life in the final quarter of the match. In the 76th minute, Sawyer flicked the ball on with his head towards the box as Pandita met it with a well-struck volley to level the score.

The lead did not last long as Chennaiyin substitutes — El Khayati and Baretto — combined in the very next minute to put the Marina Machans ahead again.

El Khayati whipped in a cross from the left flank and Baretto took it on the volley with his first touch of the match. There was enough time for El Khayati to bag a goal for himself – the Dutch midfielder sold a dummy to Peter Hartley before slotting the ball in at the near post five minutes from time to wrap up the win.

Chennaiyin FC’s first home win of the campaign sees them move from seventh to fifth with 10 points on the board. They will travel to Odisha for their next game on November 24.

On the other hand, Jamshedpur FC have now lost three games in a row and are 9th. They return home for their next game against East Bengal FC on November 27.
