Africa’s Covid case near 11.4mn

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Africa reached 11,403,955, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said…reports Asian Lite News

The specialised healthcare agency of the African Union (AU) added that the death toll across the continent stands at 252,048 and some 10,781,861 patients have recovered from the disease so far as of Saturday evening, Xinhua news agency reported.

South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Libya are among the countries with the most Covid-19 cases on the continent, said Africa CDC.

South Africa has recorded the most Covid-19 cases in Africa with more than 3,755,459 cases followed by the northern Africa country Morocco with 1,164,597 cases as of Saturday evening, it added.

In terms of the caseload, southern Africa is the most affected region, followed by the northern and eastern parts of the continent, while central Africa is the least affected region, according to the Africa CDC.

South Africa has recorded the most Covid-19 cases in Africa with 3,740,398 cases, while northern African countries Morocco and Tunisia reported 1,164,345 and 1,038,668 cases, respectively, it said.

Global Covid caseload tops 461.4 mn

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 461.4 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 6.05 million and vaccinations to over 10.71 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University…reports Asian Lite News

In its latest update on Tuesday morning, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 461,429,704 and 6,050,929, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 10,714,738,166.

The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 79,586,694 and 966,386, according to the CSSE.

The second worst hit country in terms of cases is India (42,996,062 infections and 515,974 deaths), followed by Brazil (29,441,039 infections and 655,878 deaths).

The other countries with over 10 million cases are France (23,834,604), the UK (19,965,375), Russia (17,160,872), Germany (17,547,357), Turkey (14,600,683), Italy (13,489,319) and Spain (11,260,040), the CSSE figures showed.

The nations with a death toll of over 100,000 are Russia (354,702), Mexico (321,115), Peru (211,579), the UK (163,680), Italy (157,177), Indonesia (152,745), France (141,467), Colombia (139,335), Iran (139,180), Argentina (127,295), Germany (125,936), Poland (113,622), Ukraine (112,459) and Spain (101,416).

India records 4,184 new Covid cases, 104 deaths

India logged 4,184 fresh Covid infections, a marginal decline from 4,575 the previous day, and 104 deaths in the past 24 hours, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday…reports Asian Lite News

With the fresh fatalities, the death toll mounted to 5,15,459.

Active Covid cases have further reduced to 44,488 which constitute 0.10 per cent of the country’s total cases.

With 6,554 patients getting cured of the virus in the same time period, the number of recoveries mounted to 4,24,20,120. Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.70 per cent.

Also in the same period, a total of 8,73,974 tests were conducted across the country, taking the cumulative tests to over 77.60 crore.

The weekly positivity rate has further come down to 0.58 per cent, while the daily positivity rate declined to 0.48 per cent.

With the administration of over 18.23 lakhs Covid vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, the country’s Covid inoculation coverage has reached 179.53 crore as of Thursday morning. This has been achieved through 2,09,22,227 sessions.

More than 16.24 crore balance and unutilised Covid vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs, the ministry added.
