DP World contributes AED10 million to Mothers’ Endowment

DP World’s charity and humanitarian arm, the DP World Foundation, has joined a growing list of contributors to the Mothers’ Endowment campaign, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to honour mothers by establishing a AED 1 billion endowment fund that supports the education of millions around the world. DP World Foundation announced a contribution of AED 10 million to the campaign.

This contribution by DP World Foundation is part of a community wide response to the campaign by individuals, businesses and institutions, racing to support its aims of honouring mothers by enabling contributions to be made in their name, and highlighting their role in nurturing families and supporting the education of their children.

The campaign, launched under the umbrella of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, aims to support underprivileged individuals through education, which offers them a chance to improve their lives in a sustainable way and prepares them for the job market. The campaign also promotes the values of honouring parents, kindness, compassion and solidarity.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, expressed the profound significance of the Mothers’ Endowment campaign launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. “The campaign aligns with the vision of our wise leadership, fostering community engagement from individuals to institutions in charitable endeavours, thus ensuring their enduring impact on disadvantaged communities. These initiatives pave the way for a future marked by stability and sustainable development”, he said.

“We are deeply honoured to participate in a campaign celebrating the invaluable role of mothers and champions global education. Our contribution underscores our steadfast dedication to social responsibility and bolstering the UAE’s pivotal humanitarian efforts around the world,” bin Sulayem.

Aiming to revive the culture of endowment as a development tool, the Mothers’ Endowment campaign focuses on empowering underprivileged individuals and communities through education, thus contributing to the global effort towards realizing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Mothers’ Endowment campaign continues to welcome donations and contributions to the endowment fund from institutions and individuals across six main channels including the campaign’s website (Mothersfund.ae), as well as a dedicated call center via the toll-free number (800 9999). Donations are also possible via bank transfers in the UAE dirham to the campaign bank account number with Emirates Islamic Bank (AE790340003708472909201). Donations via SMS are possible by sending the word “Mother” to the following numbers (1034, 1035, 1036, 1038) for Etisalat by e& users. Other possible platforms for donating to the campaign are the DubaiNow app by clicking the “Donations” tab, and Dubai’s community contributions platform Jood. (ANI/WAM)

DP World Foundation Provides Over 360K Iftar Meals

DP World Foundation (DPWF) has teamed up with the Dubai Charity Association to distribute 12,000 Iftar meals daily to workers in the JAFZA community throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan.

In a joint effort reflecting the values of tolerance and compassion associated with Ramadan, DPWF – the philanthropic arm of DP World – has embarked on this initiative to foster harmony among diverse cultures and beliefs in the UAE.

Senior management of DP World and Dubai Charity Association visited one of the three dedicated Iftar tents in Jafza yesterday to engage with the community’s volunteers and members. The campaign will provide 360,000 meals during Ramadan.

The delegation included Nasser Abdulla, Vice Chairman of the DP World Foundation; Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC; Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Suwaidi, CEO of Dubai Charity Association; Nabil Qayed, DP World Foundation, Board Member and Executive Vice President of Corporate Support at DP World GCC; Latifa Al Qemzi, Director-General of DP World Foundation; Abdulla Al Hashmi, Chief Operating Officer of Parks and Zones at DP World GCC, and a number of senior officials.

The initiative during the Holy Month reflects the Emirati culture’s core values of coexistence. The choice of launching during this month is attributed to its atmosphere of closeness and solidarity. This underscores the UAE’s unique social fabric, which is characterised by its cultural diversity,” Nasser Abdulla said.

Ahmed Al-Suwaidi said, “We are delighted to collaborate with the DP World Foundation in this endeavour. This partnership reflects Dubai Charity’s core strategy and values, demonstrating its commitment to expanding partnerships, promoting charitable activities, fostering a culture of volunteerism, and enhancing social and humanitarian engagement with diverse segments of society. Our approach aligns with the enduring humanitarian principles established by the late founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as a global exemplar in humanitarian and development efforts”.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, added: “The month of Ramadan is a time for community and generosity, and this initiative by DPWF exemplifies these values. We firmly believe that such initiatives play a crucial role in fostering strong bonds between diverse cultures and nationalities.”

With more than 200 nationalities and languages represented in the UAE, this initiative underscores the unity amidst diversity that defines the country. DP World, Gujarat Sign Deals Worth $3B

DP World has signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth INR 250 billion (approx. US$3 billion) with the Government of Gujarat, covering the development of new ports, terminals, and economic zones, strengthening its commitment to supporting trade in a growing Indian state.

DP World Group Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, exchanged MoUs around potential investments in Gujarat with M K Das, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat, during the the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 being held in Gandhinagar.

The MoUs highlight Gujarat’s prowess as a role model of development and the growth engine of the nation while leveraging its logistics and maritime infrastructure.

The MoUs underscore DP World’s commitment to facilitating trade in Gujarat by developing:

-Multi-purpose deep-draft ports in South Gujarat and around the western coast of Gujarat towards Kutch,
-Special Economic Zones in Jamnagar and Kutch,
-Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCT) and Private Freight Stations at Dahej, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bedi and Morbi

DP World has also signed an MoU with Gujarat Maritime Board to jointly identify opportunities to develop additional ports along the coast of Gujarat.

Commenting on the signing of the MoUs, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO, DP World Group, said : “We are very committed to India, where we have been operating for nearly 20 years. In that time, we invested almost $2.5 billion and we are going to invest more in the next 3 years in these projects. The policies of the government and our experience here is what gives us the confidence to do even more in India. We have also been present in Gujarat since 2003 and are proud to have been part of the state’s growth story. We are honoured to continue our partnership in the state by committing to strengthening its logistics and maritime infrastructure to further enable trade in Gujarat.”

DP World’s existing investments in Gujarat include a container terminal in Mundra, along with rail connected private freight terminals at Ahmedabad and Hazira. This is complemented by cold storage facilities in Surat and Bharuch, freight forwarding offices in Ahmedabad and Gandhidham, and express cargo services across the state. Additionally, DP World ensures global connectivity for businesses in the region by running weekly coastal services via DP World’s Unifeeder Group, linking Mundra, Kandla, and Hazira ports to several international ports. The company recently launched a first-of-its-kind dedicated scheduled Rail Freight Service, ‘SARAL’ connecting traders from south Gujarat such as Surat, Vapi, Valsad Vadodara, Bharuch, Ankleshwar to the markets in and around North Capital Region (NCR).

On 25 August 2023, DP World signed a $510 million concession agreement with the Deendayal Port Authority to develop, operate and maintain a new 2.19 million TEU per year mega-container terminal at Tuna-Tekra in Kandla. On commencement, this greenfield terminal will have state of the art equipment and a 1,100 m berth capable of handling next-generation vessels carrying more than 18,000 TEUs.

T20 signs five-year title sponsorship deal with DP World

International League T20 and DP World have today jointly announced a five-year title sponsorship that will see the upcoming six-team franchise competition, the International League T20 named as the DP World International League T20.

The agreement comes as 84 international cricket stars from across the world, such as Andre Russell, Shimron Hetmyer, Moeen Ali, Kieron Pollard and Wanindu Hasaranga, a number of  shining Associate players, including Paul Stirling, Mark Watt and David Wiese, as well as 24 of UAE’s current and rising talents, look to converge on the UAE and prepare for the inaugural season of UAE’s home-grown T20 competition, which will be played in Dubai (Dubai International Stadium), Sharjah (Sharjah Cricket Stadium) and Abu Dhabi (Zayed Cricket Stadium) from 13 January to 12 February 2023. 

The inaugural DP World International League T20 includes the teams Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Desert Vipers, Dubai Capitals, Gulf Giants, MI Emirates, and Sharjah Warriors. The teams will play for the magnificent, coveted trophy through a total of 34 matches, where all matches will be telecasted live on the expansive, global Zee Network. Opening the League is the blockbuster match between Dubai Capitals and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders on Friday 13 January (2023) at the Dubai International Stadium (Dubai, UAE) and where the competition will be launched through a dazzling opening ceremony headlined by Indian rapper Badshah and RnB megastar Jason Derulo. The inaugural edition will reach its crescendo with the final played on 12 February 2023, also played at the Dubai International Stadium.
