PM Modi inaugurates first Hindu temple in UAE

The shrine, the first traditional Hindu temple in the UAE, sits on 27 acres of land that was gifted by the UAE leadership…reports Asian Lite News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the majestic Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Mandir, the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Upon his arrival at the temple premises, Modi was welcomed by BAPS’ Ishwarcharandas Swami. He offered prayers at the temple and performed aarti. The temple was inaugurated on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchmi.

As the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, the BAPS Mandir has become a focal point of cultural and spiritual significance, drawing devotees from various corners.

Earlier, the consecration ceremony of the BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi was held ahead of its inauguration by Modi. The priests conducted rituals before the inauguration.

Modi arrived in UAE on Tuesday on a two-day visit and talked about the BAPS temple at the ‘Ahlan Modi’ diaspora event held yesterday.

He thanked UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for giving approval for the BAPS Hindu Mandir, saying that it reflects his love and respect for India and couldn’t have been possible without his love and support.

Notably, the temple, the first traditional Hindu temple in the United Arab Emirates, sits on 27 acres of land that was generously gifted by the UAE leadership.

Standing tall at 108 feet, the BAPS Hindu shrine is not only a symbol of spiritual devotion but also a marvel of engineering and craftsmanship. The foundation stone, a cornerstone of cultural unity, was laid by Modi in 2017, reflecting the collaborative effort to bring this vision to life.

The incorporation of advanced technology, including 300 sensors, elevates the temple to the status of a scientific marvel. The estimated cost of this magnificent construction, a testament to the devotion and commitment of the community, is Dh400 million.

The shrine has emerged as a testament to architectural brilliance and cultural significance in the heart of the region, marking the first stone Hindu temple in the area, proudly standing as the largest in West Asia.

Situated in the Abu Mureikhah area, this majestic structure embodies the spirit of cultural peace and collaboration and is a testament to the enduring friendship between India and the UAE. Modi’s visit to UAE also marks the third by the PM to the Gulf country in the past eight months.

PM meets artisans

After inaugurating the majestic Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Mandir, Modi met the artisans who crafted the architectural marvel, the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Two thousand artisans from Gujarat and Rajasthan meticulously carved these breathtaking statues, pillars, and columns for the temple.

Modi also met the volunteers and key contributors involved in the creation of the temple, from its inception to its completion in Abu Dhabi. He also engaged with children at the temple, who crafted miniature art pieces.

According to a video released by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, the organisation overseeing the construction of the temple in Abu Dhabi, the artisans were engaged in this artistic journey for the past four years.

Craftsmen from Rajasthan villages used the finest white marble and pink sandstone to intricately carve elaborate depictions from sacred scriptures for a temple. Serving as the centrepiece of the temple, these detailed carvings were carefully placed at the site.

The video footage also provided a captivating view of the skilled artisans’ meticulous process. With precision, they expertly chiselled marble blocks, creating stunning representations of the sun, crescent moon, and revered Hindu deities such as Ram and Ganesh.

The clips also highlighted the artisans adding delicate finishing touches to intricately carved leaves, flowers, and trees that will adorn the temple’s framework beautifully.

These sculptors, hailing from families with a rich heritage of crafting works for BAPS temples, brought to life their expertise and artistic traditions passed down through generations in Rajasthan. They take great pride in contributing to the upcoming temple, the video showed.

Indian Ambassador to UAE Sunjay Sudhir also highlighted the incredible dedication and contributions of thousands of Indian artisans and devotees during the temple’s construction phase. He shared that many devotees and members of the Indian diaspora personally participated in the construction, symbolising their commitment through “Shramdan” or voluntary labour. The completion of the temple stands as a collective achievement, showcasing the unity and love invested by the community.

Modi also inscribed the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ on a stone in premises of the religious place. He also engaged with children at the BAPS Hindu temple, who crafted miniature art pieces.

Prime Minister Modi’s personal involvement in the temple project also reflects the shared commitment to cultural understanding and mutual respect between the two nations.

The temple event was also attended by Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence of UAE, Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan.

UAE won hearts of 140 cr Indians: Modi after opening BAPS temple

Narendra Modi said Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Mandir, in Abu Dhabi will be a symbol of communal harmony and unity of the world

In a proud and historic moment for Hindus from across the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Mandir, the first Hindu temple in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), saying that the UAE has written a golden chapter and won the hearts of 140 crore Indians.

With Sanskrit shlokas and vedic hymns reverberating across the Abu Dhabi skyline, PM Modi arrived at the temple premises at 6 p.m. (IST) and was welcomed by BAPS’ Ishwarcharandas Swami and other delegates.

“This temple will be a symbol of communal harmony and unity of the world,” he said.

“The UAE has written a golden chapter. The inauguration of the temple took years of hard work and the dreams of many are connected with the temple,” the prime minister added.

On behalf of the entire India and millions of Indians living around the world, the PM expressed his “heartfelt gratitude” to President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the UAE government.

“I am confident that a large number of devotees will come here in the coming times. This will also increase the number of people coming to the UAE and people-to-people connections will also increase,” he said.

Asserting that the Gulf nation has written a golden chapter in human history, the PM said: “This temple will be a symbol of unity and harmony…The role of the UAE government in the construction of the temple is commendable…”

He ended his speech by requesting the attendees to give a standing ovation to President Al Nahyan.

Dressed in a light pink silk dhoti and kurta paired with a sleeveless jacket and stole, PM Modi participated in rituals to dedicate the temple to the people.

Offering flower petals at the feet of Lord Swaminarayan, PM Modi proceeded to perform rituals, which began with offering the holy Ganges water, as part of the inauguration ceremony, which coincided with the auspicious Basant Panchmi festival.

Seated alongside Mahant Swami Maharaj, who arrived in the Gulf nation on February 5 to preside over the historic inauguration, PM Modi performed the ‘global aarti’.

The ‘aarti’ was conducted simultaneously at over 1,200 temples of the Swaminarayan sect worldwide built by BAPS.

Following the inauguration, PM Modi gracefully bowed and sought Mahant Swami Maharaj’s blessings as he was garlanded by the seer.

He proceeded to offer holy water to the idol of Maharaj Swami Narayan and inscribed the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ — the world is one family — on a stone at the temple.

UAE’s tolerance and coexistence minister, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, who was also present at the ceremony, welcomed PM Modi and thanked him for strengthening ties between the two nations.

PM Modi interacted with members of the Indian diaspora and also met volunteers and key contributors, involved in the creation of the temple from its inception to its completion.

The inauguration of the iconic temple was celebrated through the ‘Festival of Harmony’ — a series of uplifting programmes and community events focussed on strengthening faith, mobilising community service, and inspiring harmony among people of all generations and backgrounds.

Ahead of PM Modi’s arrival, the entire campus had been decorated with auspicious symbols, including messages of ‘Welcome’ in Sanskrit, Arabic, English, and Gujarati.

“The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi serves as a spiritual oasis for global harmony that celebrates the past and recalibrates the future. It is a timeless testament to the spirituality of His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj and the generosity, sincerity and friendship of the leaderships of the UAE, India and BAPS,” Brahmaviharidas Swami, who has been overseeing the Mandir project, said earlier.

Spread over a 27-acre piece of land, gifted by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the iconic stone temple is located in Abu Mureikhah, near Al Rahba off the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway.

Featuring the traditional Nagar style of architecture, the temple stands tall at 108 feet and is crowned with seven shikhars (spires) each representing one of the seven emirates of the UAE.

With two central domes, ‘Dome of Harmony’ and ‘Dome of Peace’, the temple’s entrance is marked by eight idols, which symbolises the eight values foundational to Sanatana Dharma.

As per reports, the cost of the construction is estimated to be around 400 million UAE dirhams.

After the UAE government allotted land for the temple in 2015, PM Modi thanked the leadership of the Gulf nation on behalf of 130 crore Indians and called it a “landmark” move.

Hindu temple vandalised in Pakistan’s Sindh

In recent years, there has been a surge in attacks on places of worship of religious minorities in Pakistan….reports Asian Lite News

A Hindu temple was vandalised at Khipro in the Sanghar district of Pakistan’s Sindh province on the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmashtami.

Taking to Twitter, Pakistan rights activist Rahat Austin said the temple was vandalised at Khipro in the Sanghar district of Sindh to insult a Hindu God as people were celebrating the birthday of Lord Krishna.

“A Hindu temple is vandalized in Khipro, Sanghar, Sindh, to insult Hindu God as they were celebrating the birthday of Lord Krishna. In Pakistan, even false allegation of blasphemy against Islam leads to mob lynching or death sentence but crimes against non-Muslim Gods goes unpunished,” he tweeted.

Rahat John Austin, a Christian born in Pakistan, has been raising his voice for the persecuted minorities back home. He had to flee from Pakistan and is now living with his family in South Korea.

Janmashtami is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. Believers observe the day by keeping a fast and praying at the temples.

As per the Hindu calendar, Lord Krishna, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, was born on the eighth day of the month of Bhadra. The day mostly falls in the months of August or September as per the Western calendar.

In recent years, there has been a surge in attacks on places of worship of religious minorities in Pakistan. The country has been repeatedly slammed by the international community for not safeguarding the interest of its minorities.

Earlier this month, a mob comprising over a dozen men armed with sticks had vandalised a Hindu temple in village Bhong of Rahim Yar Khan, shouting slogans and desecrating idols in the place of worship. (ANI)
