EVENT: India Day London Fashion Week

High Commission of India in London, in association with the London School of Trends and INIFD presented a unique showcase on “INDIA DAY”  as part of the London Fashion Week September 23.

The collection was inspired by LiFE Lifestyle for Envioronment, initiative spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was announced at COP26 Summit in Glasgow.

The students of INIFD in partnership with the London School of Trends designed the collections using sustainable and plant-based fabrics which are produced in India with Lotus stems, Banana leaf, rose petals, Cotton, bamboo and various other natural fibres.

The brief was titled Sustainable Modernity, and designers were instructed to employ sustainable materials and zero-waste practices to create a collection that was both cutting edge and wearable. They were tasked to show how the Artisans and their surroundings are linked and depend on each other. A profound connection to the Earth has played a significant role in the cultural practises of India, which have a long history of being influenced by the natural environment.

Upcycling, material optimization, and waste reduction have been at the forefront of India’s artisan practices for decades.

The collection was highly appreciated at the London Fashion Week, HC Mr V Doraiswami and DHC Mr Sujit Ghosh felicitated the designers & interacted with them at India House, clothing created from lotus, rose and banana based fabrics by designers are a reflection of the Indian tradition of Sustainability!

India Day held in London to celebrate India’s 77th I-Day

A grand ‘India Day’ celebration was held in London to celebrate India’s 77th Independence Day as well as the historic success of the Chandrayaan-3 moon mission.

The event was held at the Navnat Centre in London and the people of the Indian diaspora took part in the celebration in huge numbers.

Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami and several prominent members of the Indian diaspora attended the event.

“HC @VDoraiswami addressing the huge gathering of friends of India, PIOs and Indian Citizens in an event marking the 77th Independence Day of India at @navnat today,” the Indian High Commission in London said on X (formerly Twitter).

“Thrilling to see heartfelt pride in the successes of #India among Indians, Indian-origin and other friends in the UK. Stalls from all our States and all communities made this a truly #Indian celebration. Here and everywhere #dilhaihindustani,” Doraiswami wrote on X.

During the event, Doraiswami  said that the role of the Indian diaspora is central to India’s success globally.

Indian High Commissioner Doraiswami  said, “The message is simple. There is so much to be proud of 76 years of India’s history, and particularly the last decade, in which so much has been achieved. I think the time is for us now to work together as one, look ahead, and consolidate all our successes and build ahead for a new India. And I think the role of diaspora here is central for that”.  (ANI)

Minnesota recognizes India’s freedom with ‘India Day’

Minnesota officially welcomed Indian immigrants following the passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 and now is home to an Indian American community of around 55,000 people…reports Asian Lite News

To mark India’s 77th Independence Day, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz proclaimed August 15, 2023, as “India Day” in the state.

In the proclamation, he called India the largest democracy in the world, home to nearly a fifth of the world’s population, with extraordinary diversity and rich cultural heritage.

“The contributions and heritage of Indian-Americans have played a vital role in helping and continuing to create a better nation and state,” he said.

Minnesota officially welcomed Indian immigrants following the passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 and now is home to an Indian American community of around 55,000 people.

Indian in Minnesota work as educators, business owners, healthcare providers, technology entrepreneurs, and artists across the state, Walz said.

The India Association of Minnesota hosted IndiaFest on the Minnesota State Capitol grounds to celebrate the culture, heritage, traditions of India through activities such as flag raising and a parade.

Meanwhile, Indians across the US took out parades and rallies to mark Independence Day and also hoisted the national flag outside their home, keeping up with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.

Indian Consul General in New York Randheer Jaiswal was joined by the Indian community as he unfurled the tricolour at Times Square on Tuesday morning.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken conveyed his “best wishes” to the people of India on their special day and said: “We stand with you in our shared commitment to tackle the most pressing global challenges to ensure the peace and prosperity of our people.”
