Iran keen on expanding relations with Kuwait: FM

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has said that his country has “no limit” for expanding relations with Kuwait in the areas of common interests.

The Foreign Minister made the remarks in a meeting with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in Kuwait City, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

Amir-Abdollahian emphasised the “historical” significance of the relationship between Iran and Kuwait as well as the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the economy, trade, and transportation fields.

Iran’s top diplomat also called for closer political and security consultations between the two nations, Xinhua news agency reported.

He said Iran has proposed the formation of an assembly for dialogue and cooperation among regional countries, which could play a “constructive” role in promoting convergence and cooperation.

Given its positive track record in this regard, Kuwait can play an important role in the assembly, he added.

The Kuwaiti Prime Minister, for his part, affirmed the longstanding ties between the two nations based on the principles of good neighbourliness. He called for joint efforts to enhance bilateral relations across all areas.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the recent resumption of relations between Tehran and Riyadh, expressing optimism about its positive impact on the overall regional atmosphere.

He further said that his country supports Iran’s initiatives to improve relations with Arab states and reassured Iran that Kuwait would actively work to create favourable conditions for strengthening bilateral ties.

Later on Wednesday, Amir-Abdollahian also met his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and discussed bilateral ties and regional issues of common interests.

Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Kuwait on Wednesday after wrapping up his visit to Oman. Kuwait is the third leg of his four-nation tour of the region’s Arab states.

Kuwait forms new govt

Kuwait has formed a new government led by Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

Since Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was appointed Prime Minister on July 24, 2022, this new government is the fifth one formed by him on Sunday which has 15 ministers, including five new ones, Xinhua news agency reported, citing Kuwait’s official news agency KUNA.

The new government witnessed the return of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, while Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah remains the first Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah still serves as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On June 7, the previous Kuwaiti government submitted its resignation to the country’s emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, according to KUNA.

A royal decree was issued on June 13 to reappoint Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as Kuwait’s Prime Minister.

Indian envoy, Kuwait leader discuss boosting ties

Both countries enjoy friendly relations, which are rooted in history….reports Asian Lite News

Indian Ambassador to Kuwait Adarsh Swaika on Thursday apprised Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Jaber Al-Sabah, Chief of the Diwan of the Crown Prince, about the strengthening cooperation and the future prospects of bilateral relations.

Taking to Twitter, Indian Embassy in Kuwait said, “Ambassador called on H.E. Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Jaber Al-Sabah, Chief of the Diwan of His Highness the Crown Prince, today. He apprised him of the current state and future prospects of India-Kuwait bilateral relations, including opportunities for strengthening cooperation.” Adarsh Swaika, a joint secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, was appointed India’s next Ambassador to Kuwait in October 2022. He was appointed at a time when India and Kuwait’s relationship was deepening.

Notably, the strengthening of cooperation can be attributed to the fact that the First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy comprising INS Tir, INS Sujata and Coast Guard Ship Sarathi arrived at the Al-Shuwaikh port in Kuwait in October 2022.

Both countries enjoy friendly relations, which are rooted in history. India and Kuwait are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2022. Both nations have maintained regular high-level contacts.

Kuwait stood with India during the second COVID and provided quick support in the form of oxygen and other relief material to India. An air/sea bridge was established between both countries in this regard.

Kuwait had sent a special aircraft with 282 oxygen cylinders, 60 oxygen concentrators, ventilators and other medical supplies on May 4, 2021. Indian Naval Ships, INS Kolkata, INS Kochi, INS Tarkash, INS Tabar and INS Shardul carried liquid medical oxygen in ISO tanks, oxygen cylinders, concentrators and other medical supplies to India. Kuwait reappoints Prime Minister

A royal decree has been issued to reappoint Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as Kuwait’s Prime Minister, the state media reported.

The Emiri decree, signed by Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, said that Sheikh Ahmad is responsible for nominating new cabinet members and submitting their names, Xinhua news agency quoted the state media as saying.

This decree, issued about a week after the Kuwaiti emir accepted the previous government’s resignation, came a week before the convening of the newly elected National Assembly, or Parliament, on June 20.

On June 6, Kuwaiti voters cast their ballots to elect the 17th National Assembly.

A total of 50 lawmakers were elected out of 207 candidates in the new legislative body for a term of four years.

Kuwait’s Parliament, reinstated in March following a Constitutional Court ruling on a previous dissolution, was dissolved by a royal decree in May this year.

Over the past years, tensions between Kuwait’s cabinet and Parliament have frequently resulted in cabinet reshuffles and dissolutions of the parliament.

Sheikh Ahmad was born in 1956 as the eldest son of Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

He served as the Kuwait National Guard’s deputy commander between November 2020 and March 2022 and was first appointed as the Prime Minister on July 24, 2022.

FO talks impart fresh impetus to India-Kuwait ties

India and Kuwait foreign offices undertook a comprehensive review of various aspects of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international issues…reports Asian Lite News

The fifth India-Kuwait Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) were held on Tuesday in New Delhi, according to an official release of the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Indian delegation was led by Vipul, Joint Secretary(Gulf), Ministry of External Affairs. Ambassador Sameeh Essa Johar Hayat, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asia Affairs of Kuwait (AFM), headed the Kuwaiti delegation. Ambassadors from both countries and officials from other Ministries also participated in the FOC. AFM also called on Meenakashi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture. She recalled the historical and friendly relations between both countries and underlined the need to strengthen further and diversify the relationship, an official MEA release read.

AFM handed over a letter from Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait addressed to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar.

During the FOC, both sides undertook a comprehensive review of various aspects of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. The significance of high-level visits, particularly the early convening of the Joint Ministerial Commission at the EAM/FM level was emphasized. While expressing satisfaction over the traditionally strong bilateral ties, the sides agreed to diversify cooperation in various areas, particularly trade and investment, education, science and high technology, health, and tourism, as per the release.

The Indian side thanked the Kuwaiti side for ensuring the welfare of the large Indian community in Kuwait and looked forward to further facilitation and streamlining of some of the consular issues affecting the community. Both sides agreed on the importance of effective implementation of the bilateral MoU on Domestic sector workers to ensure safe and legal migration.

The sides also discussed UN and other multilateral issues of mutual interest, including UN Security Council reforms and agreed to continue the discussions. The Indian side conveyed that it looks forward to welcoming Kuwait as a Dialogue Partner in SCO soon under its Presidency.

The FoC is expected to impart the necessary momentum in bilateral relations. It was agreed to hold the next FoC in Kuwait at a mutually convenient time, as per the MEA release. (ANI)

Kuwait PM urges support for epistemic governance modes

To address challenges, manage crises, and diversify economies, the world needs to support epistemic modes of governance, said the Prime Minister of Kuwait, H.H. Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Monday.

In his speech to the World Government Summit held in Dubai, Sheikh Ahmad affirmed that the world was going through a delicate period that required exceptional management of any given situation whether it was improving economies or handling natural and manmade crises.

He noted that his country had taken confident steps toward realizing the Kuwait Vision 2035 for development, transforming it to a financial and commercial regional hub attracting global investments.

The Prime Minister also affirmed that the State of Kuwait had taken strides in the direction of digitizing government transactions and developing work, economic, environmental and social atmospheres.

He affirmed that the Kuwait plan was in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) 2030.

The Prime Minister remarked on the slogan of the current summit “Shaping Future Governments”, saying that it reflected a clear innovative vision for the world set by host country the UAE.

He commended the Emirati government on its high-level organizing of this prestigious global event.

The Kuwaiti Prime Minister said that the current summit was held during a critical time in the world, extending during his speech condolences to the governments and people of both Turkiye and Syria, which were affected by a devastating earthquake last Monday.

The Kuwaiti cabinet has resigned after disputes with opposition-led Parliament.

Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf al-Ahmed Al-Sabah submitted the cabinet’s resignation to Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Xinhua news agency quoted state media as saying.

Monday’s resignation was sparked by a deadlock between the executive and the legislative authority, state media cited the cabinet’s statement, without elaborating.

Parliament had been scheduled to convene on Tuesday.

The outgoing cabinet, which was sworn in in October, was the sixth in three years in Kuwait.

In September, Kuwait held its sixth election in a decade, forming an opposition-led Parliament.

Kuwait’s first satellite was successfully launched into space on Tuesday in what was hailed as a milestone effort in setting up the country’s space industry, state news agency (KUNA) said.

“Kuwait Sat-1” was launched onboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 from the US State of Florida’s Cape Canaveral in an endeavour undertaken by Kuwait University and funded by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences.

The launch was the culmination of diligent work over the course of the past three years, aiming to bring Kuwait’s space ambitions to fruition.

Led by the team of Najla Al-Sager, Head of Talent Management, NBK Group Human Resources, and Alia Abu El Fath, Head of Corporate Communications, NBK Capital and Global Wealth Management, who combined their skills of training and communication to create a program that will work with leading educational institutes, mentors, and industry professionals to develop top female leadership candidates.

Women represent 5 out of 10 corporate staff worldwide; however, out of every 10 top executives around the world, only 2 are women. To change this misbalance, NBK RISE will work toward changing mindsets and promoting women’s leadership in Kuwait, the region, and the world. Engaging, inspiring, and motivating women across regions, sectors, and specializations, the program will create a community of women leaders to sustain and grow the initiative.

The 9-month program will be divided into various modules, each tackling a different area of leadership. NBK RISE candidates worldwide will work closely with globally renowned universities to acquire leadership training, tools, and techniques. Networking opportunities, mentorship from industry leaders, and management support make NBK RISE a one-of-a-kind leadership program for women around the world. The program will also offer the unique experience of attending executive committee meetings to get first-hand experience of how big decisions are made at corporations.

Kuwait welcomes India Navy’s First Training Squadron

India and Kuwait traditionally enjoy friendly relations, which are rooted in history and have stood the test of time…reports Asian Lite News

In an opportunity to expose trainees to the military and maritime linkages of India with Kuwait, the ships of the First Training Squadron comprising Indian Naval Ship Tir, Sujata and Coast Guard Ship Sarathi arrived at Port Al-Shuwaikh, Kuwait.

The ships arrived at the port on Tuesday and are deployed in the Persian Gulf as part of their training deployment. The naval ships were accorded a warm welcome by senior officers of the Kuwaiti Naval forces, Border Guard and the Embassy of India officials besides school children.

The three-day port call includes professional engagements, cross-ship visits, community outreach and social interactions. The ships of 1TS, based at Kochi, are part of the Southern Naval Command, the Indian Navy’s Training Command.

The deployment of 1TS is aimed at exposing the trainees to the conduct of various evolutions at sea and port familiarisation. The present deployment also provides an opportunity in exposing the trainees to the sociopolitical, military and maritime linkages of India with friendly countries in our maritime neighbourhood.

Over 425 metric tonnes of liquid medical oxygen, 12,500 oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, ventilators and other medical equipment was sent from Kuwait to India during the month and half long operation. Indian community in Kuwait also contributed to the efforts. (ANI)
