Albanese Condemns Neo-Nazi Activity Following Sydney Incident

On Friday, NSW Police arrested six of nearly 61 heavily disguised individuals, issuing 55 Rail Infringement Notices for offensive behaviour. Two released men received infringement notices. ABC reported all-black attire and a neo-Nazi banner.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the activity of a group of heavily disguised people who had boarded a train in Sydney, saying that he doesn’t want to see people in balaclavas dressed in black from head to toe, who are engaged in neo-Nazi activity in this country.

“It has no place and it is rightly being condemned by all decent people,” he said on Saturday in Orange, Australian state of New South Wales (NSW).

The NSW Police Force announced on Friday that six among the group of nearly 61 heavily disguised people were arrested and taken to the police station following a police operation, and a further 55 men were issued Rail Infringement Notices for offensive behaviour, Xinhua news agency reported.

Two men had since been released and issued infringement notices for offensive behaviour, the police added.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported that these people were wearing all black, including balaclavas, and they produced a banner referencing a neo-Nazi group.

Albanese said he was shocked by the number of people.

“We have seen a rise in neo-Nazi activity on extreme right-wing activity,” he added.

Held every year on January 26, Australia Day marks the anniversary of the 1788 landing of the British First Fleet in the country.

Indian student brutally assaulted by Khalistan supporters in Sydney

The victim is going through corrective surgery on his arm, which is split open at the elbow area.

 A 23-year-old Indian student was allegedly kicked, punched, and hit with the metal pole repeatedly by Khalistan supporters on Friday in Sydney’s Western Suburb of Merrylands, according to a media report.

The student, who works as a driver, was on his way to work early in the morning when he was attacked by four men who left the scene in a grey sedan, The Australia Today reported.

“As soon as I sat in my driving seat these Khalistan supporters came out of nowhere. One of them opened the left side door of my vehicle and hit me with an iron rod on my cheekbone under my left eye,” the student told the news outlet.

He said two of them were video recording the attack on their phones while four-five men were hitting him, adding that the goons were repeatedly raising the “Khalistan Zindabad” slogan the whole time.

“Everything happened within five minutes and they left saying this should be enough lesson for me for opposing the Khalistan issue, if not they are ready to give me more lessons like this,” the student said.

The New South Wales (NSW) Police arrived with paramedics on the scene after they were alerted by the passersby who witnessed the incident.

“Shortly after 5.40 am on Friday, officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attended Rupert Street, Merrylands West, following reports of an assault,“ the NSW police said in a statement to The Australia Today.

“The 23-year-old was allegedly kicked, punched, and hit with the metal pole repeatedly before the four men left the scene in a grey sedan,” the statement added. The student was taken to Westmead Hospital with serious injuries to his head, leg, and arm.

According to The Australia Today, the victim is going through corrective surgery on his arm, which is split open at the elbow area.

Police urged people with information to contact them, adding that inquiries into the incident are on.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Thursday attended the Australia-New Zealand Leadership Forum (ANZLF) in Sydney to boost trade ties between the two countries.

“Building on our trans-Tasman trade and economic links is fundamental to ensuring New Zealanders’ economic security both now, and into the future,” Xinhua news agency quoted Ardern as saying in a statement.

Topics discussed on the form include reconnecting through travel and tourism; trans-Tasman innovation opportunities; labour shortages and the future of work, economic growth challenges post-Covid-19; and climate change collaboration.

Australia is New Zealand’s second-largest trading partner after China, with two-way trade accounting for over $13.6 billion in the year to December 2021, statistics show.

Separate to the ANZLF, Ardern and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will hold their first formal Australia New Zealand Leaders Meeting on Friday in Sydney.
