UAE, Uruguay hold political consultations

The inaugural session of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay has commenced at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting was chaired by Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, on behalf of the UAE, and Nicolas Albertoni, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, on behalf of Uruguay.

The meeting was also attended by Saeed Al Qamzi, Non-Resident Ambassador of the UAE to Uruguay, Alsaghira Al Ahbabi, Director of the American Affairs Department at the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Maria Alejandra Costa Prieto, Director of the Human Rights and Humanitarian Law Department at Uruguay’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the discussions, the two sides discussed the development of bilateral cooperation and ways to enhance it across political, economic, and trade sectors.

Both sides expressed their mutual commitment to fostering sustainable development, particularly in the field of renewable energy.

Furthermore, the two sides addressed ongoing regional and global developments, emphasising the respective positions of both countries.

They also examined avenues for joint collaboration within regional and international organizations that serve areas of mutual interest and contribute to confronting regional and global challenges.

Reem Al Hashimy commended the bilateral relations between the two countries and stressed the keenness of the respective leaderships to enhance the prospects for cooperation to serve the common interests and aspirations of both nations and peoples.

She underlined the UAE’s unwavering and steadfast commitment to promoting peace and stability on both regional and global levels, and leveraging all means to enhance de-escalation and mitigate tensions across the world.

For his part, Albertoni praised the bilateral relations between the UAE and Uruguay and emphasised the two countries’ dedication to strengthening cooperation in various fields.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides expressed their keenness to continue strengthening bilateral relations and advancing them in a manner that contributes to supporting shared interests and unifying efforts to confront mutual issues. (ANI/WAM)

India and Uruguay on Monday resolved to further strengthen political, economic and cultural ties and explore new areas of cooperation such as audio-visual.

The two countries during the 5th Foreign Office Consultations on Monday reviewed the ongoing bilateral cooperation. Both sides expressed satisfaction at the growing pace of engagement, according to a release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The Indian side was led by the Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (East) Saurabh Kumar and the Uruguayan side was led by Uruguay’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Nicolas Albertoni.

The last round of consultations was held in November 2021 at Montevideo.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

Both sides agreed to hold the next consultations at a mutually convenient date in Montevideo, according to the MEA release.

“Secretary East @AmbSaurabhKumar and Vice Minister @N_Albertoni co-chaired the 5th India-Uruguay Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi. Wide-ranging discussions held on bilateral, multilateral and regional issues,” MEA official spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted on Monday. (ANI)

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, today received at Al Shati Palace, President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, who is visiting the UAE to attend his country’s National Day celebrations tomorrow at Expo 2020 Dubai.

After receiving the President of Uruguay, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed discussed with him bilateral relations between the UAE and Uruguay and enhancing and expanding their horizons in various fields in the best interests of the two friendly countries. They also tackled several regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The meeting also touched on the significance of Expo 2020 Dubai and its success over the past months in promoting global dialogue on creating a better future for humanity.

In this connection, they also spoke about Uruguay’s participation and importance in introducing its culture and development vision.

During the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed emphasised the UAE’s keenness to develop its economic, trade, and development ties with Latin American countries, particularly Uruguay.

Pou extended thanks to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed for the warm welcome and stressed his country’s desire to boost its economic and investment relations with the UAE, especially in food security and cooperation in the research, development and innovation in various sectors for the benefit of the two countries and their friendly peoples.

The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council; H.H. Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Special Affairs Advisor at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs; Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State; Saeed Abdullah Al Qamzi, UAE Non-Resident Ambassador to Uruguay, and several officials. India and Uruguay identify steps to boost trade

Relations between India and Uruguay are traditionally warm and friendly and these relations are further gaining momentum with frequent high level visits and interactions…reports Asian Lite News.

Reviewing their ongoing bilateral cooperation, India and Uruguay on Monday identified steps to strengthen and boost sectors including trade and investment and access to pharmaceutical products.

This was among the issues discussed at the 4th Foreign Office Consultations between India and Uruguay held in Montevideo.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two sides also discussed cooperation in Information Technology sector and strengthening people-to-people ties.

Both sides exchanged views on various regional issues. They reiterated their resolve to strengthen coordination in multilateral and regional fora, the MEA added.

Response to Covid-19 pandemic and access to vaccines and medicines and mutual recognition of Covid certificates were also discussed.

Riva Ganguly Das, Secretary (East), MEA led the Indian delegation while Uruguayan side was led by Carolina Ache Batlle, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Government of Uruguay, it informed.

According to the MEA, both sides agreed to hold the next consultations at a mutually convenient date in New Delhi.

Relations between India and Uruguay are traditionally warm and friendly and these relations are further gaining momentum with frequent high level visits and interactions.

Foreign Office Consultations have been institutionalized between the two countries through an Agreement signed in 1999.

For the fiscal year 2020-21, the India-Uruguay bilateral trade was USD 268.30 million, with Indian exports at USD 104.71 million and Uruguayan exports at USD 163.69 million.

Timber, shorn wool, edible oils, iron & steel casings and tubes and inorganic chemicals are the main exports of Uruguay to India and plastics, petroleum oils, vehicles, auto-parts and organic chemicals are the main Indian exports to Uruguay.

Uruguay is a member of the trade bloc MERCOSUR, currently also composed of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, and headquartered in Montevideo.

An India-MERCOSUR Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) was concluded 25 January 2004 and became operational in June 2009.
