Kerala Youth Congress Scandal Sparks Investigation

The chief minister was addressing the press in Kasargod as part of Nava Kerala Yathra…reports Asian Lite News

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday said that an investigation has started into the allegation that Youth Congress members created fake ID cards for their president’s election.
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said, “This is something that should not be done at any cost. What is the credibility of it, is such a thing being done for the first time, have these agencies carried out such activities before? These are things that should be investigated properly. That investigation has begun. What I am understanding is that all agencies have taken it seriously.”

CM Vijayan slammed the Congress and said that they could go to any extent against political rivals. “Congress calls itself a democratic party and all but it’s just for namesake. There is no democracy. They have no elected system in general, it’s nominated committees that function for them. They conducted elections for the youth congress president post. Just imagine, it’s an internal party election which ideally should be healthy. In such elections, they are choosing such a route. So imagine to what extent they can go against political rivals. This is what should be seen,” CM added.

The chief minister was addressing the press in Kasargod as part of Nava Kerala Yathra. Earlier, the BJP and CPI (M) filed complaints to the concerned authorities against the Kerala unit of the Youth Congress on Friday for allegedly creating nearly 1.25 lakh fake ID cards for their organisational election. BJP state president K Surendran has made complaints to the Kerala DGP (Director General of Police) and the Election Commission against the youth congress over this allegation.
Meanwhile, DYFI, the youth wing of the CPI (M), also demanded action against youth congress leaders. DYFI alleged that this has happened with the knowledge of the Congress leadership.

Youth Congress state president Rahul Mankoottom, however, claimed that the Youth Congress election was transparent.”It’s good that BJP President K Surendran has come up with these allegations in the media. His allegations are pointless. He himself was involved in election malpractice,” Rahul Mankoottom said. (ANI)

Kerala steps up oxygen production amid raging crisis

Kerala health department and PESO have been working together to ensure medical oxygen supply…reports Asian Lite News.

Kerala has increased its production of oxygen from 99.39 metric tonnes in April last year to 219 metric tonnes in April this year.

At a time when several states are facing a severe shortage of medical oxygen, Kerala has managed to increase its medical oxygen supply and storage.

Speaking to ANI, Southern Gas Ltd, Trivandrum, manager Aparna Nayar said, “For the last two weeks, there has been a drastic increase in demand for medical oxygen. We are trying to meet this increased demand. We have fully stopped industrial production and are filling medical oxygen only.”

She said, “We are supplying to government and private hospitals. Now there is a drastic increase in enquiries from all over south India. We cannot meet all the requirements. We are diverting to our other units. Whatever is possible we are doing.”

Kerala health department and PESO have been working together to ensure medical oxygen supply.

Talking about PESO’s intervention, Aparna said, “We are in a safe position only due to PESO’s intervention. They are closely monitoring all the activities and giving us help all the time.”

In a press meet Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that in the present situation we require 74.25 metric tonne oxygen and 219.22 metric tonne is being produced in Kerala. He said that there is around 50 per cent occupancy in government hospital’s ICU beds for both COVID and non-COVID patients.

As per the union health ministry update on Saturday, 22,757 COVID-19 cases and 27 deaths were reported in Kerala in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Congress-led opposition has asked both the authorities and the media to ensure that no one should spread panic among the people regarding the surge in Covid cases.

Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala told the media that like in the first wave, the opposition is with the state government and is extending all the support in its activities to help reduce the spread.

“What needs to be done is none should make any attempt to spread a sense of fear when the cases surge. We request that an admission protocol for Covid patients be put up so as to reduce the load of patients in the hospitals and through this, only those who really need a hospital admission be brought to the hospital,” said Chennithala.

On Friday, 28,447 turned Covid positive, an all-time high in the state after 1,30,617 samples sent for testing in the past 24 hours.

Across the state, there were 1,78,983 presently positive people, of which in the past one week the tally touched one lakh.

Ernakulam district with a record 29,708 active cases now has the highest number of cases.

With regards to the vaccine policy of the Centre, Chennithala said it was most unfortunate that there has been a differential pricing in the vaccines when it should have been given free.

Vijayan, Chandy stable after testing Covid positive

While Vijayan admitted at the Kozhikode Medical College is being monitored by a seven-member medical team, Chandy is admitted at a private hospital in the state capital…reports Asian Lite News.

The health condition of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his predecessor senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy, who had both tested Covid positive, was stable, said health officials on Friday.

Both tested Covid positive on Thursday and were admitted in two different hospitals.

While Vijayan admitted at the Kozhikode Medical College is being monitored by a seven-member medical team, Chandy is admitted at a private hospital in the state capital.

A source told that Chandy was cheerful, reading newspapers and watching TV in his room with his son giving him company.

While Vijayan was at his home turf in Kannur, when his daughter and son-in-law first turned positive, he after tested positive on Thursday and got himself admitted to the state-run Medical College hospital at Kozhikode.

In Chandy’s case, though he was down with fever for the past two days and was under observation at his home here, it was late Thursday night after the district medical officer came home and recommended that he be moved to a hospital, he was admitted to a private hospital.

While Vijayan had taken the first dose of the vaccine jab, Chandy had not gone for it.

Covid protocols tightened

With the Covid test positivity ratio in Kerala climbing to above 5 per cent, a high-level meeting held earlier this week has decided to tighten Covid protocols with immediate effect.

The decision came as it was found that 3,502 people on Wednesday had tested positive from 60,554 samples tested in the past 24 hours.

Across the state, there are now 31,493 Covid positive patients while 11,08,078 people have been cured so far.

Following the tightening of protocols, it has been decided to ask the police to ensure that these are strongly adhered too.

With the Assembly elections over on Tuesday, it was also decided to ask all polling agents to immediately undergo a Covid test.

Around one lakh people have been asked to take the test in the coming days.

The authorities fear that things might take a turn for the worse, as the elections and the campaign saw huge crowds of people all across the state.

The meeting also decided to see that vaccination camps be set up and to see that in the next 45 days, all those above 45 years are vaccinated.

Moreover with the elections, the routine quarantine for all those arriving from outside the state was also not strictly enforced and from now, all visitors will have to ensure that they undergo the mandatory quarantine period without fail.
