Third G20 Culture Working Group meet begins in Hampi

The third G20 Culture Working Group (CWG) meeting commenced on Monday in Hampi, Karnataka. The meeting under India’s G20 presidency will conclude on July 12.

The Culture Working Group is working with delegates of the G20 member countries, guest nations and international organisations through an inclusive process of in-depth discussions. It brought together representatives from 20 member countries, eight guest countries, and several other organizations. The previous two meetings were held in Khajuraho and Bhubaneshwar.

“We have progressed from identifying and deliberating the four priorities to seeking consensus on the action-oriented recommendations that would be a significant step in placing culture at the heart of policymaking,” Joshi said.

The four priority areas are the Protection and Restitution of Cultural Property; Harnessing Living Heritage for a Sustainable Future; Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industries and Creative Economy; and Leveraging Digital Technologies for the Protection and Promotion of Culture.

“We strive to build consensus on the ministerial declaration containing the four priority areas which are cornerstones in our vision of an inclusive and sustainable future,” the minister added.

Highlighting the invaluable contributions of the G20 member countries he said “Your insights, comments, and feedback on the preliminary draft of the Ministers Declaration have been instrumental in shaping our shared vision.”

“Let our work today pave the way for a future where culture is not just a part of our identity, but a driving force for sustainable development, social inclusion, and global harmony,” he added.

During the event in Hampi, a range of cultural experiences has been carefully selected and arranged for the delegates to witness throughout their visit. They include a visit to heritage sites like the Vijaya Vittala Temple, the Royal Enclosure, and the Yeduru Basavanna complex of the Hampi Group of Monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (ANI)

The third G20 Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) meeting under India’s presidency is going to be held in Uttarakhand’s Rishikesh from Monday.

A total of 63 delegates from G-20 member countries, invitees and international organizations are expected to take forward the discussions held during the second IWG meeting in Visakhapatnam in March, an official statement said. The G-20 Infrastructure Working Group deliberates on various aspects of infrastructure investment, including developing infrastructure as an asset class, promoting quality infrastructure investment, and mobilizing financial resources for infrastructure investment.

The concrete progress towards various work streams of the 2023 Infrastructure Agenda will be discussed in the meeting. The discussion on ‘Financing Cities of Tomorrow, Inclusive, Resilient and Sustainable’ is the top most priority to be discussed in this meeting, the statement said.

During the three-day meeting, apart from formal discussions, various official meetings and cultural programs have been planned for the delegates. The delegates will also be made to experience the rich culture and natural beauty of Rishikesh. A tour for the delegates has also been arranged on June 28 at 2 pm.

Two seminars are also being organized on the sidelines of IWG meetings. A ‘High-Level Seminar on Roadmap for Sustainable Cities’ is also being organized in partnership with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank on Monday.

Discussions over three sessions will give G20 decision-makers an opportunity to hear from key challenges ranging from climate change to infrastructure resilience, exploring the role of rapid urbanisation, and inclusivity, technology, infratech and digitalisation.

A dinner interaction will also be hosted to provide the delegates with an opportunity to enjoy the rich cultural heritage of Uttarakhand and relish the local cuisine. A ‘Yoga Retreat’ has also been planned for the delegates on Monday. (ANI)
