Zoom introduces Notes tool to edit texts during video call

Users can even continue to work in Notes outside of meetings asynchronously and share them for collaboration anytime, anywhere…reports Asian Lite News

Virtual meeting platform Zoom has introduced a feature called Notes that allows users to create, share, and simultaneously edit a text document during the video calls.

Notes allows users to create and share content within a Zoom Meeting and collaborate with others on the call for real-time inputs — eliminating the distraction of jumping between Zoom and third-party documents and tools.

Users can even continue to work in Notes outside of meetings asynchronously and share them for collaboration anytime, anywhere.

“We wanted to offer a clean user experience that allows users to create agendas and notes while staying within the Zoom platform instead of jumping to other content management tools,” said Darin Brown, head of productivity applications at Zoom.

“With Notes, it’s seamless to create and share personal and collaborative notes in and out of meetings,” he added.

One can create a note, build an agenda, and share it with attendees in advance of the meeting and during a meeting, can open a note and share it with others so they can collaborate during the meeting.

After a meeting, a Zoom users can share a note with anyone who may benefit from the content.

Users will be able to easily access existing notes from the in-meeting navigation bar or start a new note during a meeting. Note creators will have the ability to initiate a sharing session during the meeting to collaborate in real-time, just like Zoom Whiteboard, said the company.

Zoom Notes offers editing tools with extensive formatting options such as font, styling, bullets, colours, and more.  Additionally, users can add images and links to their Notes, and content is auto-saved at regular intervals to preserve work.

The feature is available for all users at no additional cost and will roll out in the coming weeks.

Zoom ends WFH for workers

One user wrote, “kinda interesting zoom is forcing all their employees back into the office where they’ll probably use Zoom less just as they change their terms to allow AI training.”…reports Asian Lite News

Video conferencing platform Zoom has announced the end of work-from-home (WFH) and asked all of its employees to return to the office for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Insider, the company has asked employees who live within 50 miles of any Zoom office to report to work at least two days a week, based on a hybrid model.

“We believe that a structured hybrid approach — meaning employees that live near an office need to be onsite two days a week to interact with their teams — is most effective for Zoom,” a spokesperson was quoted as saying.

“As a company, we are in a better position to use our own technologies, continue to innovate, and support our global customers,” it added. Moreover, Zoom’s decision to call employees back to work sparked several responses on X (formerly Twitter), with some wondering if Zoom even had an office building and others wondering if this was the end of work from home.

“Why does zoom have an office building?! I thought they worked from home,” a user wrote on X. “What an irony? The very platform that became our lifeline during remote work, Zoom, now wants its employees back in the office. Is the remote work era over, or is this move to protect commercial real estate interests?,” another user said.

One user wrote, “kinda interesting zoom is forcing all their employees back into the office where they’ll probably use Zoom less just as they change their terms to allow AI training.”

According to the company’s website, Zoom has offices in Denver and California in the US. It emerged as one of the most widely used services for employees to communicate and share ideas at the peak of the pandemic.

Zoom announces human avatars to its meeting app

The company added avatars to their collection of filters, to make meetings more flexible and fun…reports Asian Lite News

Video conferencing platform Zoom has announced human avatars to its meeting app, which will let users appear as a cartoon version of themselves.

The company added avatars to their collection of filters, to make meetings more flexible and fun.

“With numerous personalisation combinations, you can display the ‘virtual you’ in a way that is original and fun! Avatars mirror your movements and facial expressions, allowing you to present yourself dynamically without needing to be on video and providing a more engaging alternative to static profile pictures to inject more fun and energy into your meetings,” Zoom said in a blogpost.

Avatars are currently available in beta to all Zoom users globally.

The company said as they progress in beta, they will continue to expand with additional facial features, hairstyles, and more customisation options when creating your human avatar.

Meanwhile, Zoom also announced Meeting templates, threaded messages and in-meeting chat experience, and Q&A in meetings in other features.

With Meeting templates, users can now create, save, and choose from custom meeting templates, which automatically apply the right settings for their needs.

“Using Meeting Templates will help you feel comfortable knowing you’ve got the right type of meeting scheduled, focus on your content, rather than spend time toggling settings,” said the blogpost.

Moreover, to enhance the in-meeting chat experience, later this month the company will be releasing threaded messages and reactions, which will allow meeting participants to create message threads and consolidate emoji reactions in the in-meeting chat.

This feature will help organise the chat messages and clarify which messages participants are responding to.

Further, the Q&A feature will allow meeting hosts to stay more organised by having one place to view and answer questions.

“Now you won’t have to sift through meeting chats to make sure you’ve answered all of the questions. From the Q&A pop-out, hosts and co-hosts can view, answer, or dismiss questions,” the blogpost mentioned.

Q&A in meetings is available in Zoom One Business, Zoom One Business Plus, Zoom One Enterprise, and Zoom One Enterprise Plus accounts.
