Trolls have no place in Sonakshi’s life

She adds that trolls are only people who hide behind their phones and spread negativity. They have no place in her life…writes Anjuri Nayar Singh.

Actress Sonakshi Sinha says that she doesn’t pay much heed to trolls. The actress adds that there was a point when what they said would really bother her, but it does not anymore.

“There used to be a time where I used to get really bothered by what is being said about me on social media by trolls and would react as well. But now I have reached a point where it doesn’t affect me at all and I have learned to move on,” she told.

She adds that trolls are only people who hide behind their phones and spread negativity. They have no place in her life.

“These guys sitting behind their phones and constantly spewing negativity aren’t important to me. My fans have been extremely supportive and that’s what matters. I have always been myself on social media and I will continue to keep it ‘asli’,” she says.

Meanwhile, Bollywood had a tough time last year due to the pandemic. Theatres were closed down and film shoots were halted. Sonakshi says that because of this situation OTT has grown, but a theatrical experience will always be special for her.

“Lockdown brought a lot of movies closer to viewers because of their digital releases, which has been great, and OTT viewership is definitely huge right now. But watching a movie on the big screen has a different charm altogether,” she says.

Now that work has resumed, Sonakshi says that it is important to be as careful as possible on the film set.

“It’s different but I guess everyone adapts when required. It’s your responsibility to be more cautious and to take all necessary precautions, especially when you’re working with so many people. Each person has to be responsible for the sake of the entire unit, and their family,” she says.

Currently, I am finishing my show for Amazon Prime produced by Excel and Tiger Baby. I also have ‘Bhuj: The Pride Of India’, which is up for release. A couple of other projects are being discussed. So, there is a lot of exciting stuff coming up!” she says.

‘Storytellers want maximum eyeballs’

Dibakar’s film brings back Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra on the silver screen after almost three years. The actor first worked together in the 2012 film “Ishaqzaade” and later worked together in “Namaste England” (2018)…writes Yashika Mathur.

Filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee’s new film “Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar” opens today. He feels be it OTT or theatres, storytellers want maximum eyeballs for their projects.

Commenting on whether OTT has now cemented its place in the audience mindset, Dibakar tells : “I think even theatrical producers and directors are deeply cementing their product to what their audience wants to see, so we all want the maximum number of eyes to see us and give us money, fame and power. There is no difference. Therefore, all of us keep an eye out for what the audience wants to see to a lesser or larger extent. In my case, when I want to tell the audience a story, I tell it my way and hope that I can convert more and more people to my way of thinking.”

Dibakar’s film brings back Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra on the silver screen after almost three years. The actor first worked together in the 2012 film “Ishaqzaade” and later worked together in “Namaste England” (2018).

Does it become easy to direct co-stars who have worked together earlier? “It doesn’t matter,” says Dibakar, adding: “It depends on the script, on the energy of the actors, on that film and the energy of the director, and that is all that matters. It doesn’t even matter if they have worked together in 15 films.”

Arjun and Parineeti are known to share a good rapport off-screen. However, Dibakar had to change that situation. “I was trying to break their rapport because in the film I wanted them to be adversaries. So all my attempts went into them not meeting or hanging around with each other!” says the director.

Radhika asks to shed ego of stardom

Radhika will also be seen in two OTT original films. She says that she is open to the probability of the web some day overpowering films…writes  Yashika Mathur

Actress Radhika Madan has made a mark as a Bollywood actress with her roles in “Angrezi Medium”, “Pataakha” and “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota”. However, before her film debut in 2018, she was a well-known television star.

Talking about her transition from television to films, the actress said it was important to shed the ego that comes with television stardom.

Radhika Madan

“In television, fame comes really quickly, so you get the ego boost really quickly. Once the ego is high up there and you want to start with films, I don’t think a lot of people are ready to bring their ego down and start as a student,” she told.

Was it easy for her to leave her ego behind? “I wouldn’t have survived otherwise. It’s a different medium. The dialogues are different, the delivery scenes are different. Now you are sitting a dark room in front of a huge screen in front of you without distraction. Whereas in television, people watch it — especially the saas-bahu sagas — while taking care of their kids or cutting vegetable or doing household chores. The actors’ performance needs to be up by a notch to get the attention but in movies even if you blink an eye, you miss the scene,” she said.

For Radhika, who played the lead in television show “Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi” between 2014 and 2016, taking the leap wasn’t difficult because she was ready to evolve in accordance to her new medium.

“It (change of medium) was not difficult in my head. I understood both the mediums and I think people see you as you see yourself. Because it wasn’t a hindrance in my head, I don’t think people saw it as hindrance as well. I was aware that television is a different medium and movies are different and I needed to change my acting style. I needed to unlearn whatever I have learnt,” said the actress.

Radhika, who will soon be seen in the film “Shiddat”, added: “The problem comes when you want to approach movies with the same attitude, with same acting style as TV and you expect them to take you. It is about understanding the medium. Unlearning happens with every project.”

Radhika will also be seen in two OTT original films. She says that she is open to the probability of the web some day overpowering films.

“Earlier, there used to be a certain taboo connected with OTT. If you are coming on digital platform then it was a step down. Now if you are digital star, then people are in awe and they also want to be one. A time may come when digital stars are bigger than films stars. I wouldn’t be surprised,” said Radhika.

John Abraham calls award shows a ‘joke’

The actor said he loves being part of action films and enjoys the genre….writes Anjuri Nayar Singh.

Actor John Abraham explicitly makes his statement on cliche award shows. Award shows are a big no-no for actor John Abraham, who said that he has no respect for them. The actor, who will soon be seen in the film “Mumbai Saga”, refers to award shows as “circus” and says he maintains distance from such events.

“I totally don’t respect awards. It’s a joke. It’s comical to see actors dance and then collect an award and make funny jokes,” he told.

However, he knows that people who take part in these shows don’t view them in this way.

“I feel what they are doing is not necessarily wrong or what I am doing is wrong. But I am on this side of the fence. I am quiet about it. I just don’t go for these functions. I will be a joker going to a circus, it will be demeaning and I don’t want to do that,” he said.

On his film “Mumbai Saga”, which releases in theatres, he said nothing can be predicted as of now.

“No one is sure what will happen the next day. We are not experts here. We are sure that we want to release in the theatre. We know that ‘Mumbai Saga’ needs a big screen experience and merits a large screen release and that is what we are doing,” he said.

The actor said he loves being part of action films and enjoys the genre. “It’s a genre that I am comfortable with. The audience finds that space very believable with me and I, too, enjoy that space. There are actors who love song and dance and I love action. Action sequences are my item numbers,” said the actor, who has been part of many action films including “Shootout At Wadala” and “Force”.

John added that all action films are not alike and have something different for him to showcase. “There are different kinds of roles in action films. In ‘Ek Villain’ the action was different from ‘Satyameva Jayate’. ‘Attack’ has action which is very Hollywood. Each film has a different brief,” he said.
