“I realised it (the need to reinvent) long back, because in the initial days I used to do only action films. I was known as an action hero. In fact, when I used to get up every morning, I would know I had to go on the set and do action. I used to get bored and used to think ‘what am I doing by just doing action’,” Akshay said.

In order to take a break from his cliche roles, Akshay tried comedy roles and explored rom-com space.

“I tried doing different things. At that time, people used to say ‘tu comedy nahi kar payega (you won’t be able to do comedy)’. But Priyadarshanji and Rajkumar Santoshiji gave me my break in comedy, and they got me into it,” he said.

‘Lockdown, a crucial phase of self-realisation’

Is it a blessing in disguise? In a way, during lockdown, I have understood and redefined the value of ‘shunya’…Shraddha interacts with Arundhuti Banerjee of Asian Lite News, the best international newspaper from London for Indians.

Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor describes the lockdown phase of last year as one of her crucial phases for self-realisation. It was a period when she could learn to unlearn and redefine the value of zero, the spiritual meaning of shunya, she says.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxAG_11PzCk

“I think every time we start a film, we start from zero, from ‘shunya’. Lockdown was a time for me to understand the value of several things, including self-love, the family and my emotional and spiritual health. I also think that it made me more independent, and things like the power of yoga to develop a focused mind so that I can choose to be a part of any project — film or entrepreneurial venture — more fearlessly,” Shraddha told.

“As an actress, being a part of show business, we have to look in a certain way and that changes also with every film that we do, every character I play. Recently I invested in a beverage project in which I really do not have to count my calories while having my favourite drinks. In a way, during lockdown, I have understood and redefined the value of ‘shunya’, and now I know the brand of product or even brand of cinema I would like to associate myself with. It is a learning that has happened through last year,” she added.

Shraddha Kapoor and Tiger Shroff

Shraddha has been around in Bollywood for around a decade, and she has faced success, failure, praise and criticism. Her debut film “Teen Patti” fared below expectation, her third film “Aashiqui 2” was a musical superhit, followed by “Ek Villain”. She has tried dance and action in various films including “ABCD 2”, “Baaghi”, “Street Dancer 3D”, and “Saaho”.
What has her decade in Bollywood taught her? “Firstly, whenever I get a new film, I recive it with a lot of gratitude because a producer is investing money to make the film and making me part of that journey.

Shraddha

As an actress I always put my 100 per cent, but result is certainly not in our hand. It is in the hands of the audience. Interestingly, the result plays a part on my next opportunity, because it is the nature of the business of cinema. I have learnt to look at things from a broader perspective,” she summed up.

The actress finished a portion of the shoot for director Luv Ranjan’s untitled film co-starring Ranbir Kapoor in Delhi last month and is gearing up for her next schadule.

“This is my first solo lead and you’ll get to see me in a whole new and different avatar. The script is so fresh, you’ll find the movie to be a perfect amalgamation of spine-chilling horror, action, romance, drama,” claimed Gurmeet.

Gurmeet

The story of the film revolves around a married couple who, soon after moving into their new apartment, find suspect the presence of a malevolent spirit. As their relationship crumbles, they realise they must stick together to not only save their marriage but also their lives.
The film’s debutant director Sarmad Khan claimed: “What makes The Wife unique is its urban setting and its matter-of-fact approach in presenting supernatural events.”

A similar concept, incidentally, has already been tapped way back in 2003 by Ram Gopal Varma in his hit film Bhoot, starring Ajay Devgn and Urmila Matondkar.

Director Khan added: “Most horror stories tragically are quite predictable, especially for those who love this genre and can end up mostly guessing what’s going to happen next. Yet, with this film, you can’t know anything for sure till you’ve arrived at the end of it.”

Sayani added: “I am a huge fan of the horror genre and to be able to make my debut in one is the most exciting feeling ever. The entire experience of being a part of such a wonderful film has been a very fulfilling one indeed.”

‘I believe in OTT as well’

His new film Ludo, an anthology drama, dropped on OTT platform a few months back and will make its television premiere soon…writes Yashika Mathur.

Filmmaker Anurag Basu says filmmakers have always explored bold subjects irrespective of the medium it is presented on. However, the line that differentiates freedom of creativity and misusing that freedom needs to be kept in mind by filmmakers at all times.

LUDO

“It’s a very thin line between using the freedom of creativity and misusing it. I believe in OTT as well. Filmmakers should look at using freedom of speech in the best possible way to tell unique stories,” Basu told.

His new film Ludo, an anthology drama, dropped on OTT platform a few months back and will make its television premiere soon.

“A lot of filmmakers have explored bigger and bolder subjects on the big screen as well. My film ‘Ludo’ dealt with many bold subjects and was initially planned for the big screen,” he added.

Basu, who made films such as Barfi! (2012), Life In A Metro (2007) and Gangster (2006), is confident now that theatres have reopened after lockdown, the audience will pour in like the good old days.

“Cinema is a community watching experience. I am certain that audiences will come back to theatres when they will be back in action completely. We just need one film that will create enough buzz for the audience to rush back to theatres. This has already started in the South, with the release of the Vijay-starrer ‘Master’, and soon will be seen in Bollywood too. One big release and things will change,” he said.

Anurag Basu

The filmmaker came back to direction with Ludo after a break of three years but he doesn’t sense a gap.

“As a filmmaker, I didn’t miss filmmaking and directing for the big screen. Thankfully, the TV reality show ‘Super Dancer’ and the film ‘Ludo’ happened at the same time. I had finished shooting for ‘Ludo’ when we were shooting for ‘Super Dancer’. So, I never felt I was away from the big-screen,” he said.

So, what does he prefer? Directing films or judging shows on television? Cooking!” he replied on a lighter note, and went on to add: “I absolutely love cooking. That’s what my family and my wife say! They believe I am a great chef and then a great filmmaker. I love cooking almost every day for my family.”

Ludo will have its television premiere on Sony Max on February 28.

‘Male actors are obviously difficult to mimic’

I try to experiment all the time. Yeah, I find Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone really hard to mimic…writes Puja Gupta.

Comedian Jamie Lever has been entertaining her fans with her funny videos of mimicking different actors and actresses. But she finds it really hard to mimic Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone.

“I was trying to mimic Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone, it was not coming right. But I will crack it one day, I will do it for sure. I like to try new things and try copying new actors and actresses. I try to experiment all the time. Yeah, I find Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone really hard to mimic but I will do it someday,” she tells.

Jamie retaliates that male actors are difficult to mimic. “I try to mimic lot of new actors and actress. I think male actors are obviously difficult to do, you cannot get the voice right, but you can get the mannerism and body language right. So heroes are difficult to mimic,” says Jamie who has associated with Godrej L’Affaire web-series #LiveItUp 2021.

The web-series has been conceived as a quirky courtroom theatrical in which viewers will see the year 2020, played by Jamie, put on trial for the disruptions it caused in our lives this year from travel and food to parenting, grooming and various other nuances of lifestyle.

Asked who has been her inspiration, Jamie replies: “I am really inspired by the female actress-comedian Carol Burnett from Hollywood and she had her own show in 1950’s. She is someone who use to do impersonations, comedy sketches, she had her own show on television where she would sing, do parody and things like that. I really take a lot of inspiration from her and I feel like if I ever have to have a show it will be something that. Carol Burnett is just phenomenal and you should look her up as she is just amazing.”
