Bollywood livewire star Ranveer Singh has shared an emotional note after the trailer of his upcoming film ’83’ received immense love and appreciation from fans. The actor finds it an honour to be a part of the cinematic telling of the iconic story of the players who brought the World Cup home in 1983.

Ranveer plays the role of the legendary Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev, who led the underdog unit to the coveted World Cup glory in 1983 as they beat the mighty West Indies team in the finals at Lord’s cricket ground.

In a heartfelt note posted on his social media, Ranveer said: “Thank you to movie fans all over the country and beyond, our film fraternity, the press people from all walks of life and generations have appreciated the movie’s trailer, and we are filled with gratitude and gladness. This is not just a movie – it’s a glorious tribute to that moment in Indian history that changed it all!”

He added: “It’s about the great achievement of the Indian Cricket Team of 1983- Kapil’s Devils’ ! These men are legends, and it’s an honour to be a part of the cinematic telling of their iconic story on the big screen! Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous and loving messages! Kaptaan Kabir Khan, it’s everything you dreamed of! Take a bow!”

Directed by Kabir Khan, ’83’ is set to release on December 24, 2021.

‘83’ on unforgettable moments of Indian Cricket

Actress Deepika Padukone, who is essaying the role of Kapil’s wife Romi Dev too makes several appearances in the trailer…reports Asian Lite News.

The trailer for Ranveer Singh-starrer ’83’ is finally unveiled bringing alive one of the most unforgettable moments of Indian cricket.

Ranveer stars as former star cricketer Kapil Dev in the film, which tells the story of how the Indian cricket team, “a team that no one believed in”, brought the World Cup home in 1983 after beating the champions, West Indies in a match.

The over-three-minute-long trailer started with the Indian team faltering on the field. Ranveer as Kapil declares at the press conference that they are ‘here to win’.

Acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi plays the then-manager of the team PR Man Singh, is seen telling Kapil, “35 saal pehle hum log aazaadi jeete, magar izzat jeetna baaki hai, kaptaan (We won independence 35 years ago but we are yet to win respect, captain).”

The latter half of the trailer showcases how the Indian team makes an impactful comeback, with Kapil hitting back-to-back sixes, smashing dressing room windows, glasses and windscreens of cars.

Actress Deepika Padukone, who is essaying the role of Kapil’s wife Romi Dev too makes several appearances in the trailer.

Other actors such as Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R.Badree too make appearances in the trailer.

Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 is one of the most anticipated films of the year.

’83’ is slated to release on December 24 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Also, in 3D.
