Iconic director Yash Chopra’s impact on Hindi cinema is an everlasting one and Netflix pays tribute to the legend and Yash Raj Films’ cultural impact on India for the past 50 years in a new docu-series The Romantics which is releasing globally on Feb 14th!

The docu-series will see the Hindi film industry come together to celebrate Yash Chopra. The mega-stars of the Indian entertainment industry like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif, etc will pour their hearts out to speak about how the legend’s work shaped their cinematic vision!

Yash Chopra is celebrated widely for his envelope-pushing romantic films like Silsila, Lamhe, Kabhi Kabhie, Veer-Zaara, Dil To Pagal Hai, Chandni, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, etc. SRK, who has been directed by Yash Chopra four times, talks about how mesmerized he was watching those films. He says, “As a professional, if I would have to spend 100 days on a set, I would rather do it on a Yash Chopra set than anybody else’s.”

Karan Johar, who knew Yash Chopra closely and is also widely known for his cult romantic films, says, “I just became obsessed by watching his films and I felt that who is this man, who is constantly responsible for mesmerizing me as a child.”

Meanwhile, superstar Katrina Kaif loved how Yash Chopra portrayed his heroines, who were all independent-minded, forward-thinking, self-reliant, and strong. Yash Chopra’s heroines contributed to how women were projected on screen by the Indian film industry. She says, “The way that Yashji portrayed his heroines was so dignified, graceful, and layered.”

Amitabh Bachchan, who has collaborated with the icon for landmark films like Deewar, Silsila, Kabhi Kabhie, Trishul, Kaala Patthar and Veer Zaara, calls Yash Chopra a true master of cinema in The Romantics, given how brilliant he was with diverse genres!

Amitabh says, “We shot for Deewar for several months within ten or fifteen days. We started Kabhi Kabhie suddenly to shift to an environment which is full of flowers and mountains and snow but the ease with which he just adapted to that was just quite remarkable!”

The Romantics has been directed by Oscar & Emmy-nominated filmmaker Smriti Mundhra, who returns to Netflix after the phenomenal success of Indian Matchmaking and the Never Have I Ever franchise.

Netflix, one of the world’s leading entertainment services, in this four-part docu-series, will also feature 35 leading personalities from the film industry, who have closely worked with YRF through its 50-year glorious existence.

Interestingly, the reclusive head of the iconic Yash Raj Films, Aditya Chopra, has also recorded his first on-camera interview for ‘The Romantics’! Kriti doing a quirky love story with Shahid

The actress, who is at the top of her game, hopes to surprise audiences with some exciting projects that showcase different sides of her persona and talent in 2023 with ‘Shehzada’, ‘Adipurush’ and ‘Ganapath’…reports Asian Lite News

Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon, who is gearing up for her upcoming film ‘Shehzada’, likes to walk the fine line between high-content and high-entertainment films and the films in her pipeline for this year prove the same.

Talking about what audiences can expect from her in 2023, Kriti said: “The audience can probably look forward to far more versions of me. It starts with a very glamorous one which is a family entertainer, followed by probably my biggest film, ‘Adipurush’, which I am extremely proud of. Then there is a lot of action coming in with ‘Ganapath’, something I have done for the first time. You will see me ride a dirt bike, throw kicks and punches and also use a weapon.”

She added: “I am also doing a quirky love story with Shahid Kapoor. We are teaming up on screen for the first time, so you will see fresh chemistry. Then there is ‘The Crew’, which has three women (Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan and me) coming together, having a lot of fun and creating something amazing.”

She also spoke about how she picks up various characters and roles.

The actress further mentioned: “Till ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’, I was getting small-town roles one after the other. So, I did the war epic drama ‘Panipat’. Then I took up a strong and meaty role in ‘Mimi’ and moved on to the next level. I want to shift the gear constantly and not stay in one particular zone. You have to move on and think what’s next, otherwise you will stagnate.”

The actress, who is at the top of her game, hopes to surprise audiences with some exciting projects that showcase different sides of her persona and talent in 2023 with ‘Shehzada’, ‘Adipurush’ and ‘Ganapath’.

Kartik Aaryan’s ‘Shehzada’ pushed by a week

The release date of Bollywood star Kartik Aaryan’s upcoming action entertainer film ‘Shehzada’ has been pushed by a week. The film, which also stars Kriti Sanon and Paresh Rawal was earlier supposed to release in cinemas on February 10 but now, it’ll release on February 17.

Senior film trade analyst Taran Adarsh notified about the new release date of the film through his Twitter. He wrote, “#BreakingNews… #Shehzada shifts to a new date… Will now arrive one week late, on 17 Feb 2023… This #KartikAaryan – #KritiSanon starrer is directed by #RohitDhawan”.

The reason behind the release date of the film being pushed is being seen as the earth-shattering performance of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s recent release ‘Pathaan’ at the box-office which while continuing its dream run at the box-office is setting up new records in film trade.

Shehzada First Look Kartik Aaryan.

The performance of ‘Pathaan’ is reminiscent of the Allu Arjun-starrer ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, which set the box-office on fire and affected the business of films that were released with it or a few weeks after it.

‘Pathaan’, which also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, is currently playing in theatres successfully despite boycott calls by certain outfits.

Yellow outfits for traditional festivals

The Hindu festival of Basant Panchami, also known as Vasant Panchami, Shri Panchami, and Saraswati Panchami, is celebrated on the first day of spring and falls on the fifth day of the month of Magha. It also heralds the start of Holi preparations, which take place forty days after it. Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning, music, and art is also worshipped on Basant Panchami.

Even if you have a huge collection of enviable dresses, Basant Panchami calls for traditional sarees and suits in yellow colour. The vibrancy and the charm of the colour yellow make all women look beautiful and elegant. Ahead of the Basant Panchami, let’s check how the Bollywood divas styled their yellow-coloured outfits.

Alia Bhatt

Team up your yellow Saree with a pink blouse like Alia Bhatt. A neatly tied bun and big jhumkas will make the look perfect. Remember, yellow is a vibrant colour. So avoid teaming it up with any other bright colour.

Deepika Padukone

The velvet Sharara could be your pick for this Basant Panchami. Team it up with the right set of accessories.

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam’s yellow full-sleeve Anarkali is perfect for festivals. You don’t need an extra bit of accessories to complement this attire.

Sonakshi Sinha

You can also go indo-western as Sonakshi Sinha has chosen. The kaftan-styled asymmetrical kurta is easy to carry and makes you look pretty.

Kiara Advani

Shunning saree, sharara and everything, if you want to look simple and effortless, the yellow kurta with intricate work could be your pick.

SRK’s mass comeback in espionage thriller ‘Pathaan’

Pathaan (Shah Rukh) is an exiled RAW field operative who is assigned to take down his old nemesis, Jim (John Abraham), a former RAW agent turned rogue…reviewed by Arnab Banerjee

‘Pathaan’ (playing in theatres); Duration: 146 minutes; Director: Siddharth Anand; Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham and Dimple Kapadia. (Rating: 3.5)

Finally, the much-awaited Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Pathaan’ hit the theatres on Wednesday. And, expectedly all the pre-release exhilaration translates into high energy rush as the film presents the story of an Indian spy, who takes on the leader of a group of mercenaries who has nefarious plans to target his homeland, captivating the audience.

That the lead actor is the ‘Badshah’ of Bollywood gives the fans all the more reason to scream, dance and sing in the cinema halls. Serpentine queues for a 6 a.m. show is a rarity in India, at least for a Hindi film.

In short, the film is an espionage thriller that is most likely to lead box office collections.

Pathaan (Shah Rukh) is an exiled RAW field operative who is assigned to take down his old nemesis, Jim (John Abraham), a former RAW agent turned rogue.

Jim leads ‘Outfit X’, a private terrorist organisation, which is planning to spread a deadly virus dubbed ‘Raktbeej’ across India. The virus, if unleashed, could be much deadlier than any other virus winessed by the mankind.

Right from the opening scene, the unusually fast-paced plot moves with RAW agents, spies, terrorists and a Pakistani Army officer scheming and plotting in different parts of the world.

Rattled by the revocation of Article 370, which granted special status to the eratwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, by the Indian government, Pakistan has all the evil intentions and the wherewithal to infiltrate and annihilate the Indian territory. For this purpose, Jim, who has a past and had been double-crossed by Indians earlier, is hired.

And here comes yet another ex-ISI agent, Rubina Khan (Deepika Padukone), leaving many guessing as to who teams with whom.

Pathaan, a diehard patriot who had retired, is called back by his boss Nandini (Dimple Kapadia). Meanwhile, their supreme boss, Colonel Sunil Luthra (Ashutosh Rana), is left worried, still trying to figure out what move to adopt to save human lives with threat of destruction looming large.

With gun-toting agents spreading destruction all around, a svelte and sexy Rubina is seen displaying her charm in a bikini that had riled up the saffron outfits until a few weeks ago when the song ‘Besharam Rang’ was released on internet.

Of course, she is aware of the past and present danger and knows precisely whom to side with as more and more evil-intentioned men appear on the scene.

Amid such chaos, if there’s one ray of hope it’s obviously the presence of the most sought-after, most-loved, and fearless Pathaan. With James Bond-like intensity, Pathaan has supreme fight sequences to match.

Crammed with high octane action that is virtually frenziedly uninterrupted and relentless, there’s not a single moment that would make the viewers take a breather.

Shah Rukh, who needs a box office blockbuster badly, is perhaps the only actor who could have looked lethal with his six -packs and delivering lines in hushed tones that melts Padukone. His charm remains intact as he tries to briefly romance, while all along diving and jumping from mountains and rooftops in a bid to oust his enemies.

And it isn’t just his young looks, his energy is so infectious that many among the cinegoers whistled every time he scored a point over his opponent. Such is his impact and following!

Padukone too proves why she was the one chosen by Hollywood to don colourful bodysuits, leggings and catsuits. John Abraham too is a perfect foil to Khan’s ripping muscles and performs well. To match Khan’s young looks, he too manages to sport a dashing fresh youthful look.

The action scenes are at par with any Hollywood production, while the cinematography by Satchith Paulose captures some exquisite landscapes in Spain, Russia, Dubai, Italy and France.

Though there is not much scope for songs in such a narrative, Vishal-Shekhar numbers are extremely catchy.

All those who are still worried about Bollywood’s no show for months, can decisively breathe easy with the satisfaction that given the right production, engaging script and mega stars at the helm, Hindi cinema should be back on track!

Rakul asserts importance of talking about sexual health

The film, which will be released on OTT, sheds light on the importance of sex education and how it can shape the future generations with regard to empathy and awareness…reports Asian Lite News

Actress Rakul Preet Singh, who is gearing up for her upcoming romantic comedy film ‘Chhatriwali’, feels that just like mental and physical health, it is important to have conversations around sexual health and wellness too.

The film, which will be released on OTT, sheds light on the importance of sex education and how it can shape the future generations with regard to empathy and awareness.

Elaborating her thoughts, the actress said: “For me it’s not about the subject being bold, I think the entire conversation is that it is not bold it is as normal as it can be and I am a believer that if we talk about key health, mental health, emotional health then why not sexual health. You know It’s not an option, it is compulsory.”

“I truly believe this is the only thing we don’t have an option for in life so why should education related to it be an option. I think it’s very important and it’s a need of the hour.”

Sharing what she felt after reading the script, the actress further mentioned: “When I read the script, I connected with it so much that I felt…you know sometimes, you have certain beliefs but it comes to you in the form of the script it just re-intrigues the fact that yes I think I should do something which will help people, obviously, entertainment being on the forefront.”

“I connected with it so much that nobody has ever spoken about the effects of it on women’s health like talking about abortion, miscarriages but can anyone of us tell how many abortions can a woman’s body take and what are the ill effects and how does it traumatise women you know mentally, emotionally, physically and these are the conversations we need to have for a society to hope and to move forward,” she added.

‘Chhatriwali’ is set to release on January 20, on OTT platform ZEE5.

Nitya Mathur talks about role in ‘Taaza Khabar’

Nitya said that she has to put in a lot of effort to understand the character as it is very unusual and different….reports Asian Lite News

‘The Fame Game’ actress Nitya Mathur got candid about her role and how she prepared for her character in the web series ‘Taaza Khabar’ that also stars Bhuvan Bam.

Nitya said: “My character Shazia is an extremely smart girl. She knows what needs to get done and how to get it done. She’s a really cool girl. Quick on her feet, unapologetically ambitious, and so driven. It was so much fun to play her.”

She shared further on her preparation: “There are parts of Shazia that are actually a lot like me. So I drew from my own experiences for those. For example, Shazia’s relationship with her father is a lot like what I have in real life. A father and daughter who have different approaches to life, but deeply love and care about each other; will do anything for each other, and put in honest effort into understanding each other.”

Nitya said that she has to put in a lot of effort to understand the character as it is very unusual and different.

“Honestly, the script was very well written and gave the actor most of what was needed. What I had to think about was the social and economic setting she’s been brought up in. It’s very different from my reality. I wanted to understand how it has shaped the way she thinks, without going into stereotypes,” she added.

The actress, who was also seen in ‘Blurr’ said: “We’re all dealt with certain circumstances in life that dictate the expected course of our lives. I’d say ‘Taaza Khabar’ is about people trying to break through the circumstances they’ve been dealt. It’s about ambition, greed, and these dreams.”

The series will be released on Disney+ Hotstar on January 6.

‘Boycott Bollywood’ trend and fringe outfits

Govind Parashar, national president of Rashtriya Hindu Parishad, said that the reason for the boycott was that Ranbir Kapoor had said in an interview that was a beef eater…reports Asian Lite News

The ‘Boycott Bollywood’ trend has given a new lease of life to hitherto unknown fringe outfits looking for a toehold in the saffron sun in Uttar Pradesh.

These outfits hitched on to the boycott bandwagon in 2022 and made their way to headlines by targeting new films and the stars.

The Sanatan Raksha Sena in Varanasi suddenly woke up to the fact that actor Aamir Khan had made fun of Hindu deities in his film ‘PK’, released in 2014.

Eight years after PK released, the Sanatan Rakshak Sen announced a boycott of Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ even before the film was released.

In Varanasi, the outfit went from door to door, asking people not to watch the film and even urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ban it.

A fortnight later, in September, an outfit called Rashtriya Hindu Parishad announced war against ‘Brahmastra’ and said that those who watch the film in theatres will get their faces blackened.

Govind Parashar, national president of Rashtriya Hindu Parishad, said that the reason for the boycott was that Ranbir Kapoor had said in an interview that was a beef eater.

The statement was made in 2011 and the Parishad woke up to it in 2022.

The Parishad’s call however did not make much impact and the film opened to houseful boards, albeit with security deployment.

‘Raksha Bandhan’, an Akshay Kumar starrer, faced a boycott call because some fringe outfits dished out ‘Hinduphobic’ remarks made by the film’s writer Kanika Dhillon.

The call, however, did not make any impact on the film that anyway tanked at the box office.

Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Liger’ faced a boycott call by Hindu Sena merely because its lead actor had criticised the boycott trend.

The call was not even taken seriously by the government and the film went as quietly as it came.

Then came Ajay Devgn’s ‘Thank God’ that drew protests over the depiction of Chitra Gupta in the film.

The Chitra Gupta Mahasabha announced a boycott of the film that did not progress beyond a few protesters holding placards for media coverage.

The latest in the line is Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathan’ that has kicked a furore over Deepika Padukone’s saffron swimwear in the song “Besharam Rang’.

The BJP has joined the protests and this has made the government take note of it.

“We shall be ensuring security because the film is being released on January 25, a day ahead of the Republic Day and we do not want any trouble,” said a district magistrate.

The official, however, admitted that most of the boycott calls were essentially a means of garnering free publicity.

“These fringe outfits get some importance when they make such calls and protests are staged for publicity on TV channels,” said the official.

He said that most of these outfits do not even have an office and are run through WhatsApp.

The only time that a boycott call made a severe impact was in 2018 when the Karni Sena protested against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’, forcing him to postpone the release date and change the name of the film to ‘Padmavat’.
