‘All you need is your mind and your body’

The beauty of yoga, apart from its numerous benefits, is that you can practice it in absolutely any space, in any part of the world…says Deepika.

Actress Deepika Padukone has worked towards normalizing mental health to enlighten everyone that mental illness is not always critical, but can be the reason our daily lives includes so much stress.

The actress now features in a Yoga Campaign, Yoga Make Space, leveraging an initiative which revolves around mental health and fitness. adidas and Deepika together celebrating what brings different people to the mat, no matter their background, ability, or reason to practice.

The Yoga Make Space collection has been consciously crafted, inspired by the elements of nature and aims to support through every move and practice, with apparel for women and men. The campaign

Sharing about the significance of yoga in her life, global Indian actor Deepika Padukone speaks.

When did you start practising yoga?

Deepika: I started practising yoga with consistency about two years ago after what felt like a deep inner calling. At around the same time, I was also offered a movie where I was given the role of a yoga instructor. In short, it was an inner calling mixed with the professional requirement that eventually pushed me to look for the right instructor and get going on my yoga journey.

What is the connection between nature and practising yoga?

Deepika: The beauty of yoga, apart from its numerous benefits, is that you can practice it in absolutely any space, in any part of the world. We often talk about being self-reliant. Yoga is one such practice. All you need is your mind and your body.

What are your thoughts on the benefit of practising yoga?

Deepika: I have, over the years, been exposed to many different types of workouts, exercises and practices. However, practising yoga, makes me feel the most centred, balanced and grounded. Feeling alive and connected from within, like I am in control, is something I have never experienced in any other practice, except for in yoga.

What does ‘make space’ means to her?

Deepika: adidas’ Yoga Make Space has not only given me a chance to talk about fitness but it is also giving me a space to discuss mental health which society still feels afraid of. When I hear the term ‘make space’ it reminds me of postures that I hold for a minute. Sometimes more. And when you truly tune in, you feel your body opening up and oxygen running into your bloodstream. That, for me, is making space within my body.

Your favourite yoga postures

Deepika: If I had to choose one, ‘Malasana’ would have to be my favourite posture. A hip opener that makes me feel like my chakras are aligned.

The Collaboration 2.0 will be available starting at Levi’s retail locations, Levis.in, and select partner e-commerce platforms…reports Asian Lite News

“For me, the second season of my collaboration with Levi’s is what summer truly feels like; bright, joyful and happy. It’s a reflection of my personal style married with what is quintessential Levi’s,” said Deepika Padukone of her collaboration – Levi’s X Deepika Padukone.

The collection inspired by Padukone’s signature cool athleisure-meets-effortlessly sexy style, includes elevated dyeing techniques, hybrid silhouettes, and utility elements in a mix of spirit-lifting colours and earthy neutrals. Taking inspiration from the expressive style of the 1970s, the collection is a little looser, a little slouchier, but unmistakably Levi’s. The collection’s standout pieces include an on-trend co-ord that has been given a summery, almost DIY makeover. It also comes with a Levi’s throwback-inspired 90’s Trucker, a high-waist taper fit, and an extra wide-leg fit in Hydro-dipped Indigo or an all-over rainbow marbling.

Denim is an essential component of this collection. It comes in the form of vintage-inspired, super versatile high-rise wardrobe staples like the 70’s high flare and 70’s high slim straight, both with a retro rise, a curve-hugging fit, and a slight stacking in the latter. The High Loose and High Loose Taper have an easy casual appeal with a tapered leg for a vintage-inspired look, bridging youthful and contemporary style. Women’s high loose jeans have a waist-emphasising high rise look that is loose through the hip and thigh for the ultimate relaxed fit. The collection also includes a High Waisted Cropped Flare, which has a high rise, is relaxed through the hip and thigh, and has a flare at the ankle, making it a perfect fit for showing off your waist and your shoes!

Summer essentials like tie-dyes in bright pops of colour tie together this collection, which also includes an earthy-toned range of shirts and tops. We see a variety of hybrid and elevated sweat-dresses and sweatsuits, committing to a new love of comfort with style. Padukone’s love of classics with a twist is reflected in the collection, which includes a blazer and short set, shirts with dramatic sleeves and pleats, and jumpsuits, all in earthy and neutral tones.

“Co-creating and collaborating with one of India’s biggest fashion icons to bring to life a collection that reflects our shared values of being authentic and effortless. We’re thrilled with the season of this iconic collaboration. This season is fresh, youthful and energetic while remaining an uncompromisable blend of Deepika and Levi’s,” says Arunkumar Nath, Acting Managing Director and Sr. Director Finance- South Asia, Middle East & Africa at Levi Strauss and Co.”

The line, which includes organic cotton, supersoft Tencel made from wood pulp, cottonised hemp, and denim made with the brand’s WaterLess technology, allows consumers to make a statement while keeping sustainability in mind.

The Collaboration 2.0 will be available starting at Levi’s retail locations, Levis.in, and select partner e-commerce platforms.

‘Communication is extremely key and important’

Deepika and Ranveer have set the benchmark of what love is with their constant romance-filled exchanges on social media…writes Durga Chakravarty

As her film ” is all set to release just days before Valentine’s Day, Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone, who has redefined romance with her actor-husband Ranveer Singh time and again, has shared the key to a good and healthy relationship.

The actress, who in 2018 was named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME, has also talked about what it feels like to be in love. She says for her love is trust, friendship, companionship and where one can just be themselves.

In a candid chat about what it takes to make a relationship healthy and successful, Deepika said: “Communication.”

She added: “I think honest communication in a relationship is extremely important and it’s not necessary that two people in a relationship are always on the same page. They may not necessarily have to agree with each other on all points but I think to communicate the way you feel about certain things and to be honest about that.”

Deepika says “communication is extremely key and important.”

“Even if there are arguments and disagreements. The fact that you feel a certain way and to communicate is that I think is important. So, I think a key to a good or a healthy relationship is communication,” added the doe-eyed actress.

Deepika and Ranveer have set the benchmark of what love is with their constant romance-filled exchanges on social media.

Asked what it feels like to be in love, Deepika shared: “Well, I think love in itself is a very loaded and complicated word to use like that I think. Also, because love just means so many different things to different people.”

She added: “But as far as I am concerned, for me love is trust, friendship, companionship, love is where you can just be yourself, love is adjustment. I think when you are 19 or 21, the definition of love is very different and when you get older the definition changes.”

Deepika currently awaits the release of her upcoming romantic drama ‘Gehraiyaan’, which talks about love and complex human relationships. The film is all set for a digital release on Prime Video on February 11.

Talking about her character Alisha in the film, Deepika said it was her story that was emotionally draining.

“I don’t think I can say there’s one thing that drained me. I think just the backstory of the character is the baggage that she’s carrying from the past. The emotional and mental turmoil she is going through when you see her in the film and the circumstances around her throughout the film,” she said.

“So, it’s like the character has been layered from the start so the minute you introduced to the character you realise that she is already at quite a juncture in her life in a sense so I think the hardest part was obviously was the conviction with the choices that are being made by this character and the repercussions of the choices,” Deepika added.

“So, emotionally that sort of turmoil of choices and consequences was the most difficult part for me.”

Deepika always prioritises comfort

If it is for the day, I prefer denims that are lose and slouchy. Having said that, that would also be my style for an evening out…says Deepika.

Nothing like statuesque Deepika Padukone in a pair of jeans right? Well she gets our vote, as well as iconic denim brand Levi’s who recently announced the launch of its collaboration Levi’s x Deepika Padukone. Rooted in the brand’s authentic style and updated with Padukone’s signature style, this inaugural collaboration exudes freshness and confidence.

It re-imagines Levi’s classics through its range of jeans and denims while introducing Padukone’s signature favourites like athleisure pieces, edgy faux leather pants and oversized shirts. “The endeavour with my first ever collaboration with Levi’s was for it to be an authentic representation of my personal style. And I believe we’ve been able to stay true to that vision,” said Padukone.

The collaboration brings Padukone’s ultra-casual style to life through long varsity jackets, co-ord sweatsuits, crop-tops and bralettes. It also features modern and updated interpretations of Levi’s denims, with new on-trend 70s-inspired high waist jeans and cut and sew wide leg silhouettes to be paired with extra-long or cropped trucker jackets, a range of oversized shirts, soft romantic tops with organza sleeves, easy graphic t-shirts and elevated sweatshirts. Overall, the collection features quintessential pieces that will stand out in any wardrobe.

The collaboration is responsibly made, in line with the brand’s commitment to sustainability. Sixty per cent of the collaboration line is sustainably sourced with 100 per cent of the line ethically produced. Featuring organic cotton, super-soft Tencel made from wood pulp, cottonized hemp and denim produced with the brand’s Waterless technology, the line allows consumers to make a statement, with sustainability at the forefront. IANSlife caught up with the actress to get her take on the collection and her personal favourites:

Nothing beats a pair of denims, you can dress them up or down depending on your mood. Do you agree?

Absolutely! I think a good pair of denims are an absolute must in anyone’s wardrobe. And the best part is that you can either dress it up or dress it down. That’s what makes it extremely versatile apart from it also being extremely comfortable.

Although you’re known to constantly experiment with your style, what we see now is a much more relaxed, athleisure vibe to your outfit choices. How come?

Absolutely! While I love experimenting with fashion and my personal style, I have also always prioritised comfort; and with athleisure wear I am able to achieve both.

Share a few details about your new collaboration with Levis?

The endeavour with my first ever collaboration with Levi’s was for it to be an authentic representation of my personal style. And I believe we have been able to stay true to that vision.

A fashion icon from the yesteryear’s who’s style you admire and why?

Over the years, my personal style has been influenced by several people. But if I really had to choose one icon whose style I admire, it would have to be Rekha ji and her most exquisite sarees. I absolutely love sarees and could wear them almost every day!
Millennials and Gen Z focus on utility, minimalism and the use they get out of a garment as much as the style. Do you agree?

Absolutely! I think today, especially post the pandemic, sustainability and utility really are the two main areas of focus. I believe the world was headed in that direction anyway and the pandemic has only accelerated that process.

Which style of denims are your favourite and why?

Honestly, it depends on my mood and the occasion. If it is for the day, I prefer denims that are lose and slouchy. Having said that, that would also be my style for an evening out. All I would do is pair them with different shoes. In the day, I would pair them with flip-flops or sneakers. For the evening, I would probably wear the same look with a pair of heels. That’s what makes a pair of jeans so versatile!

“We are absolutely thrilled that Deepika Padukone’s first collaboration as brand ambassador for Levi’s is so iconic yet personal. We have always believed in ‘authentic self-expression’ and the collaboration is just that. We wanted to work with Deepika because of her iconic sense of style and its influence on consumers. Her understanding of colours, fabrics and silhouettes is unique and extremely individual. With this collaboration we see the inclusion of newer fabrics, finishes and fits. The introduction of athleisure pieces, faux leather pants, long varsity jackets and even the oversized shirts are a way for us to explore unknown textile territories and also relate to a newer fashion consumer,” said Sanjeev Mohanty, SVP and MD — South Asia, Middle East and Africa, Levi’s

The collaboration will be available at Levi’s retail outlets, Levi.in and select partner e-commerce platforms on October 8, 2021.
