King Charles III discharged from hospital

Britain’s King Charles III has been discharged from a hospital in London after he underwent treatment for an enlarged prostate, CNN reported.

Buckingham Palace said that the British monarch had left the hospital and that his upcoming public engagements had been rescheduled “to allow for a period of private recuperation.”

According to Buckingham Palace, King Charles “would like to thank the medical team and all those involved in supporting his hospital visit, and is grateful for all the kind messages he has received in recent days,” according to CNN report.

The British monarch spent three nights at a private hospital London Clinic near Regent’s Park – after being admitted on Friday. He was said to be “doing well” following the procedure. Queen Camilla, who has been visiting her husband King Charles III every day, was by his side as he left hospital on Monday.

Previously, Queen Camilla during her recent engagements said her husband was “fine” and “looking forward to getting back to work,” according to CNN report.

British monarch’s discharge from the hospital comes hours after Kensington Palace announced that Princess of Wales Catherine had left the same hospital after undergoing abdominal surgery. She returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from abdominal surgery.

Two weeks back, Princess of Wales went to London Clinic for abdominal operation. A Kensington Palace spokesperson said Catherine is “making good progress,” CNN reported.

According to Kensington Palace spokesperson, Catherine and her husband, Prince William, were grateful to the staff at the hospital “for the care they have provided.” The spokesperson added, “The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world.” (ANI)

IDF Targets Alleged Hamas Infrastructure in Hospital Operation

Hamas has repeatedly denied Israeli claims that it operates from within the hospital…reports Asian Lite News

A top Israeli official said he was sure that “more and more material” will be shared from the military’s search operation at Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital, where the Jewish nation believes that the Hamas militant group operates a subterranean network of tunnels.

Justifying the military operation at the enclave’s largest hospital, Mark Regev, a senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, told the BBC on Wednesday night that “international law specifically says that the minute your enemy uses a humanitarian site like a hospital for its military machine then you can target that site”.

“It doesn’t mean you do so lightly or irresponsibly but under international law it loses its immunity,” he added.

Regev’s remarks came as Israeli special forces backed by additional troops conducted the “precise and targeted operation” inside the hospital against Hamas terror infrastructure at the site.

The operation lasted until Wednesday evening, with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) finding weapons and Hamas assets inside the premises, while it also interrogated people.

At least five Hamas gunmen were killed by troops during a gun battle outside the hospital, The Times of Israel reported, adding that no soldiers were injured.

Addressing the media, IDF spokeperson Daniel Hagari said on Wednesday night that the operation lasted some 18 hours.

He said that the IDF searched the hospital premises extensively and did not rule out the possibility of getting Hamas terroists who are hiding in some areas in the facility.

The Israeli military has repeatedly alleged that Palestinian armed groups operate a military compound within and underneath the Shifa Hospital.

The hospital’s management and the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza have strongly denied these allegations and have called for an independent investigation.

Presently, it remains unclear what or who remains in the complex following the Israli operation.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army stressed that the military was “not overrunning” the hospital, asserting troops were conducting a “focused” operation “in a defined area” of the hospital.

Though Israel believes some of the 240 hostages captured by Gaza terrorists were housed at the hospital at one time, there is no indication of hostages currently being held there.

However, the IDF believes the operation may bring intelligence information on the captives.

Responding to the operation, senior Hamas member Bassem Naim called it “ridiculous and worthless” and said he could not rule out that the Israeli military “brought weapons and put them in the Al-Shifa complex”, the BBC reported.

He said Israel’s goal is to “pressure” hospitals and medical centres and to displace Gaza’s population, adding that 25 hospitals in the territory are now out of service through “bombing, siege and destruction”.

The Health Ministry in Gaza said that before the military raid in Al-Shifa, bombardments hit the hospital and damaged parts of it, including the specialised surgeries department, coronary care division and a warehouse.

“After the troops entered, patients, staff and IDPs were reporteldy relocated within the compound,” it said.

The Ministry also claimed that on Wednesday, 179 bodies held at Al Shifa, which could not be evacuated or properly maintained, were buried in a mass grave inside the compound.

Israel Allows First Fuel Shipment to Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has allowed the first fuel truck carrying over 20,000 litres of diesel to enter Gaza Strip from Egypt since the breakout of the war amid outcry from international aid organisations that underlined the people’s sufferings due to acute fuel shortage.

Sources with United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNWRA) told IANS that the fuel is only for the use of the UN and not for hospital purposes. The UNRWA director in Gaza, Thomas White posted on ‘X’ that it received fuel.

The shortage of fuel has led to the malfunctioning of hospitals, water treatment plants, sewage removal and even communications, according to the UNRWA.

The UNRWA has been actively involved in the humanitarian aid work in Gaza.

The UN had warned that it would have to halt humanitarian operations in Gaza since it was running out of fuel.

Tamara Al Rifai, Executive Director, Communications of UNRWA told IANS that Gaza Strip requires a minimum of 500 trucks per day of provisions, aid materials, fuel and other essential commodities for the minimum functioning of life, saying Gaza was receiving only around 30 trucks per day, which was highly inadequate.

Sources in the UN aid agency told IANS that two more trucks carrying fuel were lined up outside the Rafah crossing but it was not clear as to when these trucks would be allowed into Gaza Strip.

It may be noted that the trucks that cross the Rafah border will have to pass through strict scrutiny of IDF soldiers, which will lead to a lot of time consumption in delivery of aid materials to UN relief centres and warehouses.

‘Only one hospital in functioning northern Gaza’

At least 500 patients seek shelter at Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, in Gaza City…reports Asian Lite News

Amid intense Israeli strikes near and at medical facilities, the United Nations has expressed concern over the fact that only one hospital is functioning in northern Gaza, CNN reported on Tuesday.

The situation has left medical workers struggling to keep patients, including premature babies, alive.

“All but one of the hospitals in Gaza City and northern Gaza are reportedly out of service, as of November 13, due to the lack of power, medical consumables, oxygen, food and water, compounded by bombardments and fighting in their vicinities,” the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Tuesday.

According to the UN, out of roughly 30 hospitals and clinics in northern Gaza, only one medical facility can reportedly receive patients.

At least 500 patients seek shelter at Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, in Gaza City.

Recently, US President Joe Biden also expressed concern over the safety of hospitals in Gaza amid Israeli allegations that Hamas is using them to coordinate attacks.

“Well, you know, I have not been reluctant to express my concern with what’s going on, and it’s my hope and expectation that there will be less intrusive action relative to the hospitals, we’re in contact with the Israelis,” Biden said on Monday.

Biden added that there is an effort to take “this pause to deal with the release of prisoners, and that’s being negotiated as well, and the Qataris are engaged, so I remain somewhat hopeful, but the hospitals must be protected.”

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan echoed Biden’s remark on Monday, saying, “We do not want to see firefights in hospitals.”

“We want to see patients protected,” Sullivan said. “We want to see hospitals protected. We have spoken with the Israeli Government about this and they have said they share that view that they do not want to see firefights in hospitals,” CNN quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile, the condition further deteriorated as Gaza’s major hospitals — Al-Shifa and Al-Quds — stopped functioning due to the lack of fuel and electricity amid the ongoing Israeli assault, CNN reported, citing Gaza officials.

Doctors at Al-Shifa Hospital are resisting an IDF mandatory evacuation order, stating that about 700 patients would die if left behind, according to the director-general of the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza.

At least 11,180 Palestinians, including 4,609 children and 3,100 women, have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry in the occupied West Bank, CNN reported. (ANI)

Fuel Shortage Threatens Gaza Hospital Operations

The joint statement came a day after the UNRWA and WHO delivered medical supplies and medicines to the Al-Shifa Hospital…reports Asian Lite News

In a joint statement, the UN Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) and World Health Organization (WHO) said conditions at the Al-Shifa Hospital — the largest in the Gaza Strip and one of the oldest Palestinian health institutions — were “disastrous” amid the raging Israel-Hamas war.

The statement issued on Wednesday said there were currently almost two patients for every bed available and emergency department and wards were overflowing requiring doctors and medical workers to treat wounded and sick patients in the corridors, floor and outdoors.

“The number of wounded increases by the hour while patients are undergoing immense and unnecessary pain as medicines and anesthetics are running out. In addition, tens of thousands of displaced people have sought shelter in the hospital’s parking lots and yards,” it said.

The statement went on to say that for over a month, no fuel has been allowed into the Gaza Strip, including to the Al-Shifa Hospital.

The two UN bodies also renewed “their urgent call for the delivery of fuel to humanitarian agencies in the Gaza Strip”.

“Without fuel, hospitals and other essential facilities like desalination plants and bakeries cannot operate, and more people will most certainly die as a result,” the joint statement added.

As a result of the fuel shortage, the Al Quds hospital in Gaza City shut down key services on Thursday, while the Al Awda hospital, the only provider of maternity services in northern Gaza, warned about an imminent closure.

The joint statement came a day after the UNRWA and WHO delivered medical supplies and medicines to the Al-Shifa Hospital.

This was only the second delivery of lifesaving supplies to the hospital since the escalation of hostilities and the total siege of Gaza began.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces and the government have alleged that the Al-Shifa Hospital was doubling up as the command centre for Hamas and several underground tunnels were operating under the facility.

Last week, Israel had claimed responsibility for an attack outside the hospital, saying that a fighter jet struck an ambulance used by Hamas militants.

As of Thursday morning, the death toll in Gaza since the war broke out stood at 10,569, of whom 67 per cent are said to be children and women.

About 2,450 others, including 1,350 children, have been reported missing and may be trapped or dead under the rubble.

The fatalities also include at least 192 medical staff, of which 16 were on duty when killed, according to WHO.

A total of 92 UNRWA staff and 18 Palestinian Civil Defense personnel have also lost their lives in the raging conflict.

The spokesman said that to protect the medical staff, hospitals and patients there is an urgency to stop the aggression by the Israeli military.

He said that the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza is flooded with wounded and the hospital has shifted patients to the maternity centre while other patients have been shifted from maternity centre to a nearby private clinic.

UAE, Russia Seek Urgent UNSC Meet After Gaza Hospital Attack

Over 500 people were killed in the Israeli airstrike on the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital late Tuesday, reports Asian Lite News

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Russia requested an emergency UN Security Council meeting Tuesday after an Israeli airstrike in the besieged Gaza Strip struck a hospital, killing hundreds of victims.

“The UAE and Russia have called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, following the strike on a hospital in Gaza,” the UAE UN mission spokesperson Sgagad Matar wrote on X.

UN Human Rights Chief Volker Turk has issued a statement saying that the massive strike at Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City that killed hundreds of people is “totally unacceptable”.

“Words fail me. Tonight, hundreds of people were killed — horrifically — in a massive strike at Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, including patients, healthcare workers and families, that had been seeking refuge in and around the hospital,” he said on Tuesday evening in the statement.

According to Palestinian sources, at least 500 Palestinians were killed. Local eyewitnesses told Xinhua that a rocket hit the hospital, with a huge explosion ripping through its premises.

“We don’t yet know the full scale of this carnage, but what is clear is that the violence and killings must stop at once,” Turk said, adding that all countries with influence must do everything in their power to bring an end to this situation.

“Civilians must be protected, and humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach those in need as a matter of urgency,” he stressed.

According to media reports, at least six people were also killed on Tuesday afternoon when a UN school was hit in a refugee camp in Gaza’s middle area. The school had been serving as a shelter for around 4,000 people seeking refuge.

The WHO on Tuesday night also issued a statement on the attack on Al Ahli Arab Hospital and reported large-scale casualties, strongly condemning the attack.

WHO stressed that the hospital was operational, with patients, healthcare workers, and internally displaced people sheltering there.

WHO said that the hospital was one of 20 in the north of the Gaza Strip facing evacuation orders from the Israeli military. The order for evacuation has been impossible to carry out given the current insecurity, critical condition of many patients, and lack of ambulances, staff, health system bed capacity, and alternative shelter for those displaced.

WHO calls for the immediate active protection of civilians and healthcare workers, stressing that evacuation orders must be reversed, and the international humanitarian law must be abided by, which means healthcare must be actively protected and never targetted.

In a news comment issued Tuesday night, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said it was shocked and horrified by reports that Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza was destroyed and hundreds were killed.

“Hospitals should be sanctuaries to preserve human life, not scenes of death and destruction. No patient should be killed in a hospital bed. No doctors should lose their lives while trying to save others. Hospitals must be protected under international humanitarian law,” it added.

Hospital in Ukraine hit by Russian shelling

Mariupol has been surrounded by Russian forces for several days, and repeated attempts at a ceasefire to allow civilians to leave have broken down…reports Asian Lite News

Ukarine has said that Russian forces surrounding the southern port city of Mariupol have destroyed a maternity hospital.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said children were under the wreckage, and called on Western leaders to impose a no-fly zone, the BBC reported.

He also posted footage apparently from inside the hospital, which appears badly damaged.

There is no information yet on casualties, or on who was inside the hospital at the time.

The Mariupol city council said the strike had caused “colossal damage”, and published footage showing burned out buildings, destroyed cars and a huge crater outside the hospital.

Mariupol has been surrounded by Russian forces for several days, and repeated attempts at a ceasefire to allow civilians to leave have broken down.

“The whole city remains without electricity, water, food, whatever and people are dying because of dehydration,” Olena Stokoz of Ukraine’s Red Cross told the BBC, adding that her organisation would continue trying to organise an evacuation corridor.

Earlier Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said “almost 3,000 newborn babies lack medicine and food” in Mariupol, and that Russia continued to hold more than 400,000 people “hostage”.

Russia insists that it does not target civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

Israel detects a rise in cyberattack attempts against hospitals

The Israeli Ministry of Health has detected an abnormal increase in the number of cyberattack attempts against hospitals…reports Asian Lite News

The Israeli Ministry of Health has detected an abnormal increase in the number of cyberattack attempts against hospitals and medical organisations in the last two days, the Ministry and the Israel National Cyber Directorate (INCD) said in a joint statement.

The Israeli cybersecurity company Check Point Software Technologies later said that an average of 627 cyberattack attempts per hospital or organization was recorded in Israel on Friday and Saturday, 72 per cent higher than previous weekends, reports Xinhua news agency.

Early preparing and rapid response by the ministry’s cyber centre and computer teams in the attacked organisations stopped the attempts and no damage was caused, the joint statement said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry and the directorate continued to work to restore the data systems of the state-owned Hillel Yaffe Medical Centre in the coastal city of Hadera, following a severe cyberattack carried out against the hospital on Wednesday.

Following the cyberattack, the Ministry instructed hospitals to ensure that there is backup data that is separate from hospital networks, including printing of critical medical information.

The Ministry and the INCD stated that they have recently carried out many actions along with healthcare bodies to further strengthen protection levels, while detecting new vulnerabilities that may be used for attacks.
