Kareena backs #EveryChildReading Movement

By Grade 5, this number increases to 41 per cent of children not being able to read text appropriate to their grade level and to 43 per cent in grade 8…reports Asian Lite News

To promote foundational learning (in early grades) and support the #EveryChildReading Movement in the state that will be launched in April 2023, UNICEF goodwill ambassador Kareena Kapoor Khan visits Mitha Nagar Municipal School in Goregaon (West), Mumbai.

In her interaction with teachers and primacy-grade children, Kareena took a keen interest to understand how children coped with learning during and after the pandemic. She underlined how important it is for children to learn early to read, write and count; and the importance of offering learning options in children’s mother tongue. She then engaged the children in a fun storytelling session where she read an interactive story to stimulate their imagination.

“Today I met with young children and saw their immense enthusiasm to read and learn. As a mother, I understand the power of reading and storytelling that can inspire and motivate young minds, especially if it’s in a language that they understand well,” said Kareena Kapoor Khan.

“We need to create an environment where children would love to learn. School is one such space, and the learning environment at home is equally important. We need to make these spaces supporting and interesting for children to want to read. Teachers, parents, grandparents, can all help young children learn skills that will help them life-long.”

Rajeshwari Chandrasekar, Chief, of UNICEF Maharashtra, said: “It’s essential that we focus on foundational learning and equip our children with the basic skills they need to succeed in life. This includes reading, writing, and basic numeracy skills. Through initiatives like the Goshtiche Shaniwar Reading Campaign and #EveryChildReading Movement, we can inspire every citizen in the state to play their role in ensuring every child reads. With a strong foundation in place, children not only can enjoy the magic of stories but also unlock their full potential and thrive in the future.”

As per National Assessment Survey, conducted in November 2021, more than 30 per cent of children in Grade 3 in Maharashtra, are unable to read small texts. By Grade 5, this number increases to 41 per cent of children not being able to read text appropriate to their grade level and to 43 per cent in grade 8.

The National Education Policy 2020 highlights that the ability to reading with understanding, along with writing and performing basic operations with numbers is the ‘necessary foundation and an indispensable prerequisite for all future schooling and lifelong learning’. The Government of India’s National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN) Mission aims to achieve the goal of universal proficiency in literacy and numeracy for every child by grade 3 by 2026-27.

‘Motherhood for a working mom is challenging’

I look for products that have hydrating elements in them like shea butter, glycerine, and necessary vitamins…Kareena speaks with Lothungbeni Humtsoe

Not all babies, like all adults, have the same skincare routine. Given the many brand taglines, we are all bewildered as to which product to use for our children with a profusion of options accessible on the market. To address these concerns, IANSlife chatted with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Cetaphil brand spokesperson, who revealed her kid’s skincare routine.

As a mother, how do you ensure that you use the best skin care products for your children?

My first priority as a mother is to attend to my children’s skincare requirements. Their skin is sensitive and prone to dryness and inflammation. I often choose light, soft, yet efficient skin care products that shield the skin from irritating elements. I also make sure to properly review all the product contents. Confirming that all of the products are the greatest choices for their skin is essential in my opinion.

Kareena has a word of advice for Malaika Arora ahead of ‘Moving In With Malaika’

Do you believe it’s a big responsibility to be a brand ambassador for a baby skincare brand, considering mothers are relying on your decisions?

It is, indeed. As I’ve already said, being a mother comes with a lot of responsibility, but like any mother, I also want what’s best for my children. This line of baby care products from Cetaphil, which has a very soft formula and is filled with natural components, was developed with an eye toward the needs of every kid. Their products are absolutely safe for newborns and devoid of mineral oil and parabens. For both of my children, it has been my go-to skincare brand.

Do you have a unique skincare routine for your children?

I have a daily skincare routine (twice a day) that includes using natural skincare products that are mild and safe to use on babies. A decent skincare routine should be combined with a healthy diet. Therefore, I make certain that my children are well-fed and get adequate sleep. I also keep track of their physical activities on a daily basis.

What ingredients do you search for when purchasing baby products?

I look for products that have hydrating elements in them like shea butter, glycerine, and necessary vitamins. For cleansing, I always look for a gentle wash that is free of harsh chemicals and has more natural ingredients. A baby’s skin is exceptionally soft and gentle, and it needs utmost care, especially with all the harsh environmental factors.

What advice would you give to new mothers about their baby’s skincare?

Always make informed choices, do your research, check the product ingredients, and consult with your Paediatrician on what works best for your baby. Motherhood is an ongoing learning process. You make mistakes and you learn from them.

How do you strike a balance between job and motherhood as a working mom?

I agree that it is a challenging task; the key is to plan and seek support from people around you whenever needed. Motherhood is a process; you get a hang of it gradually. I always try to spend quality time with them, I engage with them in various activities like drawing, yoga, swimming, games, school homework, etc. You tend to learn a lot about your kids when you start involving yourself in these day-to-day activities.

I have always been extremely particular with the products I use for my hair and St. Botanica’s belief of perfecting the art of hair care with quality-driven formulations and Bio Actives is something I deeply resonate with…says Kareena.

St Botanica is taking the next step in its journey with the keen objective to attract new generations of consumers. Based on extensive research-based the formulations contain natural and organic ingredients and steer away from preservatives, parabens, mineral oils, synthetic colours, perfumes and so on. Chat with the Bollywood actress to get more details:

Many people find with pregnancy their hair takes a tool, did you experience this at all and if so what did you do about it?

Pregnancy can definitely cause all kinds of hair problems, especially postpartum hair fall. Thankfully I ensured I provided my body and hair with enough nourishment. Diet is an extremely important part of the process so I made sure to include good fats in the form of seeds, nuts, eggs and fish. Moreover, I avoided any form of extreme hair styling as it puts a lot of stress on your scalp and you really don’t need that! St. Botanica’s Moroccan ArganOil massage is always my go-to for hair care and de-stressing.

Kareena Kapoor

Good hair really goes far to lift your mood. Do you agree?

Definitely! I think I speak for all women when I say a good hair day just makes your day so much easier and brighter.

What is your hair care routine, and do you believe home remedies go a long way in maintaining your locks?

My hair care routine includes a deep oil massage once in a while. I shampoo and condition my hair every 2-3 days. I also incorporate the St. Botanica Hair Mask in my routine. I’m a big believer in nature-inspired home remedies to nourish hair, which is why working with St. Botanica has been such a good fit, as they are inspired by nature and elevated by science.

When it comes to grooming and beauty products, people are turning to products that are chemical-free, free of animal testing and sustainable, do you find this is important?

I have always been very conscious about the products I use and make sure they are focused on natural ingredients rather than chemicals. Sustainable buying is the need of the hour so it is extremely important that my beauty products be ethical and sustainable. True beauty cannot be achieved at the cost of harming others, so yes, shifting towards animal and environmental cruelty-free products and adopting sustainable beauty methods is extremely important. This is also a reason why I swear by the brand, as all the products are derived from botanical actives and the range is 90 per cent vegan & free from parabens and sulphates.

Hair accessories, a blowdry or natural locks, your go-to style?

Natural, easy-to-do hair has always been my go-to. I love a good beachy-wave look!

The one lockdown habit you can’t seem to shake off?

One lockdown habit I really can’t seem to shake off is how I’m always sanitising everything at home. Although, I suppose this is not the worst habit to have…

Please tell us about your association with St Botanica?

I am thrilled to be the face of St. Botanica, a brand that uses the power of Science to extract the best from Nature and Natural Botanics. I have always been extremely particular with the products I use for my hair and St. Botanica’s belief in perfecting the art of hair care with quality-driven formulations and Bio Actives is something I deeply resonate with.

When the brand approached me for this association, they told me about their extensive research-based formulations containing natural and organic ingredients, and steering away from preservatives, parabens, mineral oils, synthetic colours, it did definitely spark my interest. It’s a serious brand that delivers serious results and as a consumer, I was delighted to see them delivering on their promise.

Kareena urges people to not make a taboo of late pregnancy

Kareena was 36 when she welcomed her first child Taimur with Saif Ali Khan in 2016. After five years, in February 2021, she turned mother again as she gave birth to her son Jeh…reports Asian Lite News.

Kareena Kapoor Khan, the mother of two children, has urged people to not make a taboo of late pregnancy. “I never planned having a baby because you know I was like in 36 or Oh my biological clock is ticking so I need to speed it up or whatever. That was not even a thought or discussion because I was like I married Saif for love. I did that. I wanted to have a child so I did it. It so happened. I didn’t give much thought because my thought was always on my work and you know being happy and content with myself. So I don’t think late mothers should have this pressure,” Kareena said.

Kareena was 36 when she welcomed her first child Taimur with Saif Ali Khan in 2016. After five years, in February 2021, she turned mother again as she gave birth to her son Jeh. During the latest episode of the ‘Raising Parents with Mansi Zaveri’ podcast, Kareena also opened up about how she balances her time between the two kids. “I think that the fact is that I am a very calm person, I am very composed. I divide my time well. Like I know Taimur needs me at this point in time. You know I am lucky that he now wakes up later than Jeh’s so I know I have to be with Jeh for that hour while he has his breakfast and then once Jeh’s breakfast is done I know Taimur’s time is you know coming in.

So I just balance it out. The idea is to not have too much pressure on like doing things. The idea is to involve children to take part in your daily life. It’s not like we have to do this and we have to do that. We are not those kind of parents,” she added.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Kareena will be seen sharing screen space with Aamir Khan in ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, which is scheduled to release in 2022. (ANI)

‘From Nazneen to Naina’ depicts 20 years of Kareena’s life

It looks deeply into the challenges before her for being a flag bearer of secularism which is despised by the religious bigots…reports Asian Lite News.

‘From Nazneen to Naina’, a book on 20 years of actress Kareena Kapoor Khan in Bollywood, was officially launched here.

Authored by Canadian journalist Gurpreet Singh, the book is based on her film career.

Kareena has been under constant backlash for marrying a Muslim man, adopting Khan as her last name, and naming two of her sons — Taimur and Jeh, which have been interpreted as an affront by the self-styled defenders of religion.

“This is a reflection of the growing intolerance in a toxic political environment created by those in power both within and outside the Indian film industry,” said the author virtually in the book launch on Tuesday.

The book talks about Kareena’s work and goes into the details of her performance as an actor, and as an activist and philanthropist, trying to make connections between the present political situation and its impact on the cinema.

It looks deeply into the challenges before her for being a flag bearer of secularism which is despised by the religious bigots.

Her significant screen roles, as someone who stands up against hate, have been underlined in the book, which also attempts to make a critical assessment of her position on issues, such as racism, feminism, environment and state violence.
