Previous Falls Raise Fracture Risk, Especially in Men

The association between previous falls and fracture risk was observed to vary by sex, with men exhibiting higher predictive values compared to women…reports Asian Lite News

A recent study titled “A meta-analysis of previous falls and subsequent fracture risk in cohort studies” found links between self-reported falls and increased fracture risk, as well as a slightly greater risk of fracture in men than in women.

Published in Osteoporosis International, this international meta-analysis of data pooled from 46 prospective cohorts comprising over 900,000 individuals also recommended that previous falls are a factor that should be included in patients’ histories used by fracture risk assessment tools like the FRAX (Fracture Risk Assessment) Tool to calculate a person’s likelihood of getting a fracture over the next decade. FRAX is the most commonly used assessment to predict fracture risk.

“FRAX was developed using longitudinal data from studies around the world. Although previous falls have long been recognized as a significant risk factor for fractures, until now, they have not been factored into the FRAX algorithm,” said Douglas P. Kiel, M.D., MPH, director of the Musculoskeletal Research Center and senior scientist at the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife, a nonprofit, Harvard Medical School affiliated institution. “In this newly updated FRAX dataset, previous falls were included as a risk factor and were found to increase the risk for fracture. These findings underscore that falls are an important contributor to fracture in both men and women, but interestingly, slightly more in men.”
Key findings of the meta-analysis include

Increased Fracture Risk: Individuals with a history of falls within the past year were found to have a significantly higher risk of any clinical fracture, osteoporotic fracture, major osteoporotic fracture, and hip fracture. One or more previous falls were significantly associated with an increased risk of death among women and men.

Sex Disparities: The association between previous falls and fracture risk was observed to vary by sex, with men exhibiting higher predictive values compared to women.

Independent Risk Factor: The increased fracture risk linked to previous falls was largely independent of bone mineral density, emphasizing the standalone significance of falls as a risk factor. A previous fall in the past year confers a significantly increased risk of any clinical fracture, osteoporotic fracture, and hip fracture with the increase in risk varying between 36 per cent and 59 per cent depending on the fracture outcome and sex.
These findings underscore the importance of incorporating previous falls into the FRAX algorithm,” Dr. Kiel added. Integrating this information into tools like FRAX can enhance their predictive accuracy and ultimately help healthcare providers to more accurately predict fracture risk and tailor preventive strategies accordingly to improve patient outcomes. While a caloric deficit helps shed fat, it can also reduce muscle mass. On the other hand, an excessive high-calorie diet can be detrimental. Therefore, understanding your body type and sustaining a balanced diet is essential. So make sure you maintain a sensible approach to your diet to ensure you continue to feel good and look your best.

The right fragrance: Fragrance is a powerful element of your overall grooming. Choose a sophisticated cologne that complements your style and personality. So, embrace your existing attire, accessorize strategically, and step out with confidence, ready to shine in the festivities!

Skin revival: For rejuvenated and fresh skin, even at the last minute, turn to a charcoal sheet mask. Festivities can make your skin look dull and tired, especially with all the outdoor activities. Using a charcoal sheet mask will repair and rejuvenate damaged or tanned skin from excess oil, dirt and pollution and simultaneously restore essential skin nutrients. Bombay Shaving Company’s Charcoal Face Care Kit with sheet mask is enriched with the goodness and strong cleansing properties of Activated Bamboo Charcoal. The four-product skincare kit makes an ideal selection for the season and to give your skin that much-needed serotonin boost.

Brand Redefines Elegance with Timeless Classics

Ensembles created at our atelier are a harmonious blend of regal elegance and contemporary sophistication. Whether it’s meticulously crafted bespoke tailored suits or intricately designed ethnic ensembles, each garment exudes a sense of refinement and timelessness…writes  Raghavendra Rathore

Fashion, a mirror reflecting the essence of culture and time, often possesses the remarkable ability to transcend the best of both worlds. It’s akin to art, carrying within its folds the stories, traditions, and aspirations of a society. Within this vast tapestry of global fashion, the Indian men’s wear segment stands as a testament to the enduring beauty of timeless classics. These classic styles, deeply intertwined with the royalty and heritage of India, have evolved over the centuries to become a symbol of prestige and refined elegance.

From Inspiration to Icons – A Journey through Heritage

The brand’s journey from its inception has been a profound exploration of the rich cultural heritage, particularly within the princely state of Rajasthan. This enchanting land, with its majestic palaces, bustling bazaars, and timeless narratives, has always been an unceasing source of inspiration. It’s within this vibrant cultural crucible that the brand was born, and it’s here that we found our distinct identity.

At the core of this journey lies the iconic Bandhgala, a garment that reverberates with the very soul of Rajasthan. This classic design, characterized by a high collar and front buttoning, traces its origins back to the princely courts of India. It was the attire of choice for Maharajas and their courts, a symbol of their regal status. Today, Bandhgala has transcended its historical roots to become synonymous with elegance and sophistication, favored not only by Indian dignitaries but also by global style icons.

Craftsmanship That Chronicles Tradition

The beauty of this is reflected in the vastness through which the brand has become associated with the richness of regal and classic menswear. Amongst these are some who stand out in their respective fields creating a sense of aspiration that so beautifully resonates with the brand, while possessing their unique individual styles such as Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and many others.

Ultimately, it is in this ideology that every garment becomes a canvas, every stitch a brushstroke, and every detail a narrative. Hand-embroidered motifs, reminiscent of our country’s royal courts, lush textiles like velvets and silks celebrating our rich textile legacy, and the dhansa technique handcrafted on the Jodhpur Bandhgala are all emissaries of Indian craftsmanship. They echo the classic, transcending ornate details and embroideries.

These personalities value creations that are not just about crafting clothes but about crafting stories. Moreover, I strongly believe that true luxury is handmade, and it’s the hands of these skilled artisans that bring our creations to life. Collaborating closely with local communities, we stand by creating garments that tell tales of tradition, artistry, and culture. By engaging them in our creative process, the aim is not only to sustain but also celebrate these timeless skills, all while contributing to their socio-economic upliftment. It’s a beautiful symbiosis that empowers our designs and the artisans who breathe life into them.

Unveiling the Wardrobes of Icons with A Narrative of Distinctive Styles

Ensembles created at our atelier are a harmonious blend of regal elegance and contemporary sophistication. Whether it’s meticulously crafted bespoke tailored suits or intricately designed ethnic ensembles, each garment exudes a sense of refinement and timelessness.

In the pursuit of contemporary elegance, we’ve found inspiration in individuals known for their suave and sophisticated styles. They have challenged us to create daring and innovative styles. Together, we’ve explored unique textiles, daring color palettes, and intricate embellishments, resulting in outfits that set new trends and defy conventions.

Our designs have graced the bustling streets of Mumbai, the glamorous vibes of Miami, the historical charm of Delhi, and the cosmopolitan energy of Dubai. It’s a proud moment for our brand to see our designs transcending cultural boundaries, reflecting a universal appeal.

Working with these distinct personalities has also been instrumental in exploring my creative sensibilities also at the same time remain consistent, and unaltered by individual personalities. These icons are a testament to the versatility of RRJ’s couture pieces that have traveled along with time and graced the bustling streets of Mumbai, the glamorous vibes of Miami, the historical charm of Delhi, and even the cosmopolitan energy of Dubai. It is a humbling and rewarding experience to witness the brand and its signature Bandhgala’s versatility winning hearts worldwide, transcending cultural boundaries, and reflecting a universal appeal.

As this journey continues, keeping both tradition and innovation alive in the design sketches, we look forward to dressing more distinguished figures and helping them express their unique narratives through our timeless pieces. After all, it is only through these classic styles, deeply rooted in our cultural heritage, that designs become more than just clothing; they are known as symbols of prestige, timelessness, and the evergreen taste of royalty.

Viva Magenta: Tips to style this hot hue

This is a color you can almost pair with anything in a color block, blues, whites, blacks, use it in majors, and use it in accents as it looks fresh everywhere…reports Asian Lite News

“Viva Magenta” has been named Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2023. If you haven’t heard of this colour, it’s quite intentional. It is a reddish hue that has its roots in nature and is symbolic of a fresh show of power.

Viva Magenta is a bold, brazen colour whose exuberance encourages a joyful, upbeat celebration and creates a fresh narrative.

All of these together make Viva Magenta an intriguing shade that has been successfully tickling every fashionista’s curiosity to the max. Anand Singh, Fashion Design Manager, DaMENSCH unravels the why behind Viva Magenta for this year and says “Unconventional color in unconventional times, a symbolic of much-needed strength and power, a color that induces indulgence and passion when you look at it, a color which reminds you of the time when you were hurt or you were in love. A derivative of crimson red, this color has evolved through times which we have seen recently, there was a lot of turmoil in emotions through the pandemic and the war. Now the color of the year is just not decided or voted but this is more of an evolutionary process that supports what was and what’s going to be.”

Well, if you love the color as well as we do, Anand shares his expert tips on how men can style this hot hue!

Suits

This colour has a very strong individual essence, the trend is simple, and anything solid looks niche and premium. To ace this color with a suit is where we can imagine nice viscose or a silk blend. There’s a rare chance of going wrong with a cheque pattern where old-fashioned windowpane. Checks fashioned with a base or highlight of this color, probably with a darker tonal magenta (fashion) to a Navy (conversational), or you can go all out with a Ranbir Singh look.

Sportswear

Now if you recall retro influences, nothing can beat a nice cut n sew detail in a street/sport setting. This is a color you can almost pair with anything in a color block, blues, whites, blacks, use it in majors, and use it in accents as it looks fresh everywhere.

Casualwear

Viva Magenta is all set to rule the men’s top-wear market. Shirts {not solids} structured tees, slightly darker hues in jackets, accents in sweaters, color blocks, stripes, etc are what will be the talk of the town. Washed look of this color in colored denim can also be imagined to be a street-style winner. Men’s polos can be a big market, accents in any category, a devil in the details look of this color lined inside a jacket won’t surprise me, also these winter varsity jackets are big there this color can be a big hit.

A celebration of couture on day 6 of ICW 2021.(photo:IANSLIFE)

Accessories

This market will again make a very big bet on this colour, from men’s caps to sunglasses; this color can make fits stand out. This can become a very nice accent to pop us the whole style. Goes without saying, with so much being done in men’s sneakers, this color is definitely going to kick in!

But do we see Viva Magenta revamp the ramps? Anand forecasts, “Menswear has loved darker tones of red to cascade power, if you roam around the market now you would find it as a strong accent color already, hence an evolutionary colour which falls bang on to the taste buds of designers. This color marries multiple categories like tees, polos, jackets, sweaters, socks, etc., and especially in a market like India where saturated tones are accepted.”

Skincare tips for men

After you’ve cleaned your face, consider a resurfacing face exfoliator. This step is great for removing dead skin layers and digging out the smaller molecules of grime debris…reports Asian Lite News

We are all aware of the damage that extreme pollution may do to our respiratory and cardiac health. But let’s not forget that prolonged exposure to pollutants, which enter the superficial and deeper skin layers via transcutaneous and systemic routes, makes our skin one of the principal targets. There are several simple calculators on the internet that may be used to optimise skincare regimens for women and treatments against pollution-related health problems. Thoughts for males now? Not that many, actually. Here is a guide for males who have had a day filled with pollution in the city.

(Photo:IANSLIFE)

Deep cleansing

The three most common effects of exposure to pollution are accelerated skin aging, pigmentation, and acne formation. The thumb rule to prevent all this begins with deep cleaning, followed by the incorporation of antioxidants or a good regenerative compound. For deep cleansing, choose a facewash that has compounds like activated charcoal in the ingredient list.

Actives such as charcoal helps pull out dirt from deep in the skin, making them harder working and faster acting. And if you have a product like the Bombay Shaving Company Charcoal Facewash, you have the power of activated bamboo charcoal, which has stronger cleansing capabilities. The product is enhanced with vitamins and antioxidants extracted from papayas, and pomegranate extracts that hydrate while combating aging. Translation – you don’t have to spend too long anti-polluting your face!

Exfoliate

After you’ve cleaned your face, consider a resurfacing face exfoliator. This step is great for removing dead skin layers and digging out the smaller molecules of grime debris. Another advantage of exfoliating is that it softens the hair follicles, preparing your skin for a closer and more comfortable shave in the morning.

“With a scaling pollution rate, environmental stressors can cause oxidative stress, skin ageing, pigmentation, and breakouts. To tackle this, a proper skincare routine (cleansing, toning, moisturising) is a must for both men and women.Grooming for men is equally important as they have more active sebaceous glands and open pores.Ingredients containing antioxidants like activated bamboo charcoal, green tea, coffee, acai berry, natural fruit extracts top the list to reverse the oxidative damage, promoting exfoliation and revealing a refreshed and healthy complexion,” says Harleen Chatrath, Dermatologist.

Rehydrate

No, drinking tons of water before going to bed isn’t going to do the trick. You need to help your skin regenerate itself and prepare it to fight the free radicals it will be exposed to the following morning. Either choose a face mask that is rehydrating and regenerating at the same time or take a small capsule of an over-the-counter vitamin E, squish it and apply it all over your face. You’ll notice a visible difference in just a few days of consistency with this step.

Did you know men’s skin is more affected by pollution as compared to women’s? This is because men tend to wear less makeup! The makeup acts as a barrier, preventing free radical particles from permeating into the skin. Even if you choose to opt for adding more makeup to your routine, we recommend taking the nightly ritual seriously as well.

And it does it in Tarun’s distinctive fashion, which combines classic sartorial refinement with modern cool, refined luxury, and meticulous craftsmanship. All on the same body, in the same movement, and at the same time!

Tips to style co-ords for men

Go for small or handy bags: Instead of letting your pants sag with the keys, phone, charger, earbuds, and all your accessories, choose to go modish with small or handy bags. Bags like messenger, cross body, beach, and gym bags are designed to give stylish room to all your everyday essentials…writes N. LOTHUNGBENI HUMTSOE

Co-ords have come a long way to becoming socially acceptable. From a slouchy outfit to gaining a bona fide status in the menswear world, this loungewear is the best style statement to wear nowadays! To create a modish look, co-ord set is the most comfortable and chic and can be worn from parties to drive-in date. The best way to style is to keep it simple and accessories minimally. Ashutosh Sirohiya, Senior Designer, Snitch shares five different tips to style co-ords for men:

Accessorise with chains, bracelets, and glasses: Co-ords come in various assortments such as flower print, one solid colour, animal print, and so much more! It’s recommend selecting minimalistic accessories for a balanced look to best carry the co-ord sets with busy prints. When you choose to wear one solid colour co-ord, it’s fun to complete the look with large and dramatic accessories.

Shoes that suit the co-ord set: You can style your comfy and stylish co-rd with the shoes that suit to make it a chic style statement. If you want to amp up your style game, then pair a simple patterned co-ord set with sneakers, solid and dark coloured co-ords with trainers, dye-printed co-ords with buckle strap open-toe flats, and funky printed co-ords with Hawaiian slippers.

Go for small or handy bags: Instead of letting your pants sag with the keys, phone, charger, earbuds, and all your accessories, choose to go modish with small or handy bags. Bags like messenger, cross body, beach, and gym bags are designed to give stylish room to all your everyday essentials. Remember to choose the right bag depending upon the place you are visiting and the occasion you are wearing the co-ord for.

Layer with an over shirt and jacket: Layering is a four-season look and it’s always recommended to define the layering first to see how it interacts with your co-ord set. T-shirt co-ord with knee shorts or pajama can be layered with an oversized shirt or jacket. Layering with a contrasting coloured cardigan or knitwear in winter will add warmth to your look and will go well with the look.

Keep it untucked or partially tucked: Simple rule to abide by before you decide to untuck or partially tuck the co-ord shirt- maximum style or optimal comfort! Quickly scan the hem of your shirt. If the hem is even, untucked is the best way to go. If the hem is uneven, it’s meant to be tucked/partially tucked. Not every time scanning the hem helps you decide it. You can also check the fabric. Untuck the shirt if the fabric is bulky or stiff (denim, wool) and you can partially tuck the shirt if the fabric is light (linen, cotton, satin).

In the bronze-medal encounter, both teams were tied at 5-5 after five series of five shots each, before India clinched third place in the first shoot-off shot which Brazil missed.

The trio had earlier finished fourth out of 11 teams in qualification, with a combined score of 205 out of 225. The effort set up the Brazil match-up, which had in-fact finished third in the qualification with a score of 207.

India eventually turned the tables on them in the medal match. The USA beat Spain, also via a shoot-off to clinch gold.

Veteran Shagun Chowdhary in the women’s trap, also had a good outing as she narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth in the end. Why men, women process pain signals differently

When female rats had their ovaries removed, the difference disappeared, pointing to a hormonal connection…reports Asian Lite News

Neurons in the spinal cord process pain signals differently in women compared to men, suggests a study.

The finding, published in the journal BRAIN, could lead to better and more personalised treatments for chronic pain, which are desperately needed, especially in light of the opioid epidemic.

Women are disproportionately impacted by the burden of chronic pain. They are more likely than men to report low back pain, neck pain, orofacial pain and neuropathic pain, and twice as many women report common migraines or headaches.

But to date, most research on pain was conducted on male rodents.

The new study led by researchers at The Ottawa Hospital in Canada, however, used female and male spinal cord tissue from both rats and humans (generously donated by deceased individuals and their families).

By examining the spinal cord tissue in the laboratory, the researchers were able to show that a neuronal growth factor called BDNF plays a major role in amplifying spinal cord pain signalling in male humans and male rats, but not in female humans or female rats.

When female rats had their ovaries removed, the difference disappeared, pointing to a hormonal connection.

“Developing new pain drugs requires a detailed understanding of how pain is processed at the biological level,” said Dr. Annemarie Dedek, lead author of the study.

“This new discovery lays the foundation for the development of new treatments to help those suffering from chronic pain.”

This is the first time a sex-related difference in pain signalling has been identified in human spinal cord tissue.

Future studies are required to understand how this biological difference may contribute to differences in pain sensation between men and women, the researchers said.
