Debut collections at the fashion extravaganza

Looking into the future the collection is non-conformist and uncustomary. A play of optics and the use of woven gold, silver, pastels and jewel tones…writes Tanya Banon

Rajesh Pratap Singh makes his couture debut at the ongoing FDCI Hyundai India Couture Week. The designer is the only one to showcase a couture collection in its true sense with fashionable clothes which are bespoke, and contemporary.

Pratap’s take on the great gilded Indian Wedding, is avant grade and chic, a step back from frills and sequins focuses on structure, textiles and style. The desert and the Indian rose come together in many avatars on decadent fabrics like silk and brocade.  Woven, embroidered, printed the designer has created Poshak for both men and women.

Looking into the future the collection is non-conformist and uncustomary. A play of optics and the use of woven gold, silver, pastels and jewel tones. Custom made jewellery and hand-made footwear with metallic elements accessorize the look.

Earlier in the day there was the a dose of Bollywood glamour as Vani Gupta walked the runway for debut brand Roseroom by Isha Jajodia  at The Taj Palace, New Delhi. Her collection draws inspiration from the captivating fusion of French Riviera fashion and the allure of Hollywood’s Golden Era.

A R Rahman’s directorial debut ‘Le Musk’ premiered at Cannes

Reporting on the 36-minute film shot in Rome, ‘Variety’ had said that it is billed as “a cinematic sensory experience incorporating virtual reality, with motion, music and scent integrated into the narrative”…reports Asian Lite News

Music maestro A.R. Rahman donned his debutant director’s hat, premiering his virtual reality film, “Le Musk”, at the Cannes Film Market’s Cannes XR programme, which focuses on cinematographic content that uses immersive technologies.

Taking to Instagram, the ‘Mozart of Madras’ shared a picture of people wearing AR/VR headsets watching the film sitting in their immersive VR chairs designed by the Los Angeles-based company Positron. The chairs integrate motion, scent, immersive sound and haptics, or technology that creates the experience of touch by applying forces, vibrations or motions to the user.

Soon after Rahman shared the post, two-time Grammy winner Ricky Kej reacted with the comment: “Oh wowwww … need to find this place asap!”

Reporting on the 36-minute film shot in Rome, ‘Variety’ had said that it is billed as “a cinematic sensory experience incorporating virtual reality, with motion, music and scent integrated into the narrative”.

It follows the heiress and musician Juliet Merdinian (played by Nora Arnezeder, previously seen in “Army of the Dead”), who, 20 years since she was orphaned, “seeks out the men who changed her destiny with one powerful memory — that of their scent”. The film’s cast also includes Guy Burnet (“Oppenheimer”), Munirih Grace (“Pure”), and Mariam Zohrabyan.

Rahman developed the story from an original idea by his wife Saira. “They share a love for perfume and wished to employ scent as a narrative device in immersive cinema,” ‘Variety’ had reported. Rahman directed from a screenplay by Gurachi Phoenix, besides composing the score.

“Le Musk”, according to ‘Variety’, features inter-disciplinary expertise coming together from around the world. “It was shot on 14 different cameras capturing super-resolution quality video. Post-produced in stereoscopic 360 VR workflow at higher resolution and frame rate, ‘Le Musk’ was finished by 10 VFX houses from around the world with close to a petabyte of data.”

One petabyte is the equivalent of one quadrillion bytes, or one million gigabytes.

Rashmika ready for Bollywood debut

Telugu actor Allu Sirish insists “Vilayati sharaab” was not a planned step. “I don’t know how did this land in my lap. This is a stroke of luck or something…reports Asian Lite News.

Geetha Govindam fame Rashmika Mandana is a very familiar figure in the film industry now. Rashmika will make her Hindi debut with “Mission Majnu”, but before that she surprised fans when she entered the Hindi showbiz scene with an appearance in the music video of Badshah and Yuvan Shankar Raja’s latest hit, “Top Tucker”.

Telugu actor Allu Sirish, too, has taken the Hindi music video route to enter pan-Indian mindspace. He appears in the new Darshan Raval track “Vilayati sharaab”.

Are music videos the new big ticket for regional actors aspiring to woo Hindi-speaking markets? Trade analyst Atul Mohan believes that for regional actors, doing Hindi music videos is part of their “pan-India goal”.

“Times are changing. With the success of ‘Baahubali’, ‘KGF’ and dubbed films, the dynamics of the market has changed. Now, actors like Prabhas and Vijay Deverakonda are promoted as pan-India stars. Everyone wants to go pan-India, to increase popularity. Music video seems to be the new favourite. It is one of the steps to achieving the pan-India goal and increase the face value,” he tells.

Telugu actor Allu Sirish insists “Vilayati sharaab” was not a planned step. “I don’t know how did this land in my lap. This is a stroke of luck or something. Even while doing the video I didnt think how many views I would get. I just enjoyed it so much. I wish I could just again shoot the video because it was so much fun,” he says.

Singer and music composer Nakul Abhyankar, has composed music for Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films and is known for his track “Thumbi Thullal” (Cobra), “Azhage” (Tamil film ‘Action’) among others. In his opinion, the collaborative effort of bringing artistes of the North and the South always reaps good results.

“Movie releases have reduced because of Covid and hard truth of any film industry is that if you are out of sight, you are out of mind. What Badshah did with Top Tucker was great. It was good to see the North and the South come together with Badshah on one side and Yuvan (Shankar Raja) and Rashmika on other side,” he says.

He adds: “It’s a good thing to see big names being involved in independent music scene. It’s a good thing but I would also love to see musicians come up along with actors and make a bigger impact.”
