Get Ready for the Season with Bollywood’s Style Icons

Jackets have always been a classic piece of clothing. The grey-brown fur that Janhvi chose creates a stylish and comfortable look. Choose synthetic fur jackets instead of real ones because the former are very costly and it might be difficult to determine whether the fur was obtained responsibly…writes Olivia Sarkar

Winter will officially arrive in a few weeks when the temperature drops and you pull your coats and woolies out of storage. Now that the season is slowly approaching, it’s time to update our clothes again.

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja

Checks are a fantastic way to improve one’s mood and, of course, a fashion statement that never goes wrong. And no one can demonstrate the need for this kind of investment more than style icon Sonam Kapoor. She casually pairs a camel-brown overcoat with a checked co-ord outfit.

Priyanka Chopra

Because of her extensive jacket collection, Priyanka always looks great for winter. A shearing-style jacket made of suede-like material is what you should wear if you want to seem as stylish as her. Shearling coats in the aviator design are always a hit with rock stars.

Janhvi Kapoor

Jackets have always been a classic piece of clothing. The grey-brown fur that Janhvi chose creates a stylish and comfortable look. Choose synthetic fur jackets instead of real ones because the former are very costly and it might be difficult to determine whether the fur was obtained responsibly.

Sara Ali Khan

Parka jackets provide body protection from the weather by having an insulated filling and a slightly longer length. This winter, try Sara Ali Khan’s style for a chic, laid-back, and comfortable look. Her parka has a stylish black-and-white colour scheme with graphic text on it.

Ananya Panday

What you get when a coat and a jacket fall deeply in love is a blazer. I’m kidding! However, although they seem more like a longer, slightly casual coat, they do offer all the functionality of a jacket. This winter, Ananya Panday’s paid blazer is the ideal ensemble for a chilly breakfast.

Shraddha Kapoor

Over the past few years, puffer coats have evolved from utilitarian jackets to fashion statements. These days, oversized puffers are a girl’s must-have for the winter. With the new season upon us, everyone from Hailey Bieber to Kylie Jenner is wearing it. To achieve the desired it-girl look, try Shraddha’s puffer.

Deepika Padukone

With this brown, oversized leather jacket, Deepika Padukone exuded an extreme amount of rocker chic. There’s nothing quite like the warmth of a leather-brown jacket.

Brand Redefines Elegance with Timeless Classics

Ensembles created at our atelier are a harmonious blend of regal elegance and contemporary sophistication. Whether it’s meticulously crafted bespoke tailored suits or intricately designed ethnic ensembles, each garment exudes a sense of refinement and timelessness…writes  Raghavendra Rathore

Fashion, a mirror reflecting the essence of culture and time, often possesses the remarkable ability to transcend the best of both worlds. It’s akin to art, carrying within its folds the stories, traditions, and aspirations of a society. Within this vast tapestry of global fashion, the Indian men’s wear segment stands as a testament to the enduring beauty of timeless classics. These classic styles, deeply intertwined with the royalty and heritage of India, have evolved over the centuries to become a symbol of prestige and refined elegance.

From Inspiration to Icons – A Journey through Heritage

The brand’s journey from its inception has been a profound exploration of the rich cultural heritage, particularly within the princely state of Rajasthan. This enchanting land, with its majestic palaces, bustling bazaars, and timeless narratives, has always been an unceasing source of inspiration. It’s within this vibrant cultural crucible that the brand was born, and it’s here that we found our distinct identity.

At the core of this journey lies the iconic Bandhgala, a garment that reverberates with the very soul of Rajasthan. This classic design, characterized by a high collar and front buttoning, traces its origins back to the princely courts of India. It was the attire of choice for Maharajas and their courts, a symbol of their regal status. Today, Bandhgala has transcended its historical roots to become synonymous with elegance and sophistication, favored not only by Indian dignitaries but also by global style icons.

Craftsmanship That Chronicles Tradition

The beauty of this is reflected in the vastness through which the brand has become associated with the richness of regal and classic menswear. Amongst these are some who stand out in their respective fields creating a sense of aspiration that so beautifully resonates with the brand, while possessing their unique individual styles such as Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and many others.

Ultimately, it is in this ideology that every garment becomes a canvas, every stitch a brushstroke, and every detail a narrative. Hand-embroidered motifs, reminiscent of our country’s royal courts, lush textiles like velvets and silks celebrating our rich textile legacy, and the dhansa technique handcrafted on the Jodhpur Bandhgala are all emissaries of Indian craftsmanship. They echo the classic, transcending ornate details and embroideries.

These personalities value creations that are not just about crafting clothes but about crafting stories. Moreover, I strongly believe that true luxury is handmade, and it’s the hands of these skilled artisans that bring our creations to life. Collaborating closely with local communities, we stand by creating garments that tell tales of tradition, artistry, and culture. By engaging them in our creative process, the aim is not only to sustain but also celebrate these timeless skills, all while contributing to their socio-economic upliftment. It’s a beautiful symbiosis that empowers our designs and the artisans who breathe life into them.

Unveiling the Wardrobes of Icons with A Narrative of Distinctive Styles

Ensembles created at our atelier are a harmonious blend of regal elegance and contemporary sophistication. Whether it’s meticulously crafted bespoke tailored suits or intricately designed ethnic ensembles, each garment exudes a sense of refinement and timelessness.

In the pursuit of contemporary elegance, we’ve found inspiration in individuals known for their suave and sophisticated styles. They have challenged us to create daring and innovative styles. Together, we’ve explored unique textiles, daring color palettes, and intricate embellishments, resulting in outfits that set new trends and defy conventions.

Our designs have graced the bustling streets of Mumbai, the glamorous vibes of Miami, the historical charm of Delhi, and the cosmopolitan energy of Dubai. It’s a proud moment for our brand to see our designs transcending cultural boundaries, reflecting a universal appeal.

Working with these distinct personalities has also been instrumental in exploring my creative sensibilities also at the same time remain consistent, and unaltered by individual personalities. These icons are a testament to the versatility of RRJ’s couture pieces that have traveled along with time and graced the bustling streets of Mumbai, the glamorous vibes of Miami, the historical charm of Delhi, and even the cosmopolitan energy of Dubai. It is a humbling and rewarding experience to witness the brand and its signature Bandhgala’s versatility winning hearts worldwide, transcending cultural boundaries, and reflecting a universal appeal.

As this journey continues, keeping both tradition and innovation alive in the design sketches, we look forward to dressing more distinguished figures and helping them express their unique narratives through our timeless pieces. After all, it is only through these classic styles, deeply rooted in our cultural heritage, that designs become more than just clothing; they are known as symbols of prestige, timelessness, and the evergreen taste of royalty.

Eye-opening consequences of our clothing choices in the era of fast fashion

Khamisani was among the first wave of the pioneering ethical fashion movement in Europe in the mid-2000s, setting up the independent fashion brand Outsider in London in 2009…reports Asian Lite News

Visitors to the ongoing Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) had the opportunity to engage with designer and environmental advocate Noorin Khamisani as she addressed the profound impact of the fast fashion industry on the environment and its ethical implications.

In a one-on-one conversation with radio presenter Louis Denham, Khamisani provided an eye-opening journey into the often-overlooked consequences of our clothing choices.

“I think one of the most difficult things is that a lot of fast fashion, no matter what kind of garment it is, is made from polyester, which is basically plastic. And then if that ends up being thrown into a landfill, well, as far as we know, it’s never going to biodegrade,” warned Khamisani who currently works as the Programme Leader in Postgraduate Fashion at Istituto Marangoni London.

“I think one of our biggest challenges is to move away from being so dependent on polyester and synthetic fabrics in general”, she added.

When asked how she would differentiate a need from a want when it comes to fashion, Noorin noted: “I think you have to be honest with yourself. Most of us have about 70 percent of our wardrobes just hanging there, with clothes that never get worn. So it’s all about going into your wardrobe and looking through and sometimes rediscovering things”.

“And that’s where we come back to thinking of fashion as a verb, as something that we do. So how do we fashion ourselves? How do we interact with fashion rather than fashion always being about consumption,” she added, urging the audience to “share and swap” clothes with friends.

“If they just don’t work for us anymore, chances are you might have a friend who might really love that piece, and they might get that lovely emotional bond of knowing that it belonged to you and that it’s being passed on to them. And I think this is where fashion becomes so much more meaningful”.

Talking about the “whole new realm” for fashion designers to create “digital garments” for people that “just want to have a new outfit on Instagram”, she said: “This is complicated. It’s not like a complete replacement, but it does help to get us thinking differently. Like if all you want is to wear it on Instagram, why do you need to physically own that?,” she asked.

Khamisani was among the first wave of the pioneering ethical fashion movement in Europe in the mid-2000s, setting up the independent fashion brand Outsider in London in 2009. She continues to exhibit and sell her work internationally as well as lecturing in fashion design after being part of the founding faculty at the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI) in 2019.

Extra Butter Launches Cricket-Themed Collection in India

The 2.0 iteration of this iconic shoe takes inspiration from the heritage of Cricket — specifically the dignity and distinction of classic style that’s become a signature of the sport and continues to transcend into luxury and fashion…reports Asian Lite News

Extra Butter, the progressive New York streetwear and fashion boutique and independent lifestyle brand, has been a long-time collaborator with the global athletic apparel and footwear giant, Adidas. Over the years, the two brands have collaborated on seven successful global projects, and they are pleased to announce the launch of their very first such collaboration exclusively for India.

The idea for this collaboration came about when Extra Butter was planning the launch of its 1st international outpost in Mumbai. Given their history of collaborations, Extra Butter reached out to Adidas to see if they could work together to create something for India — specifically to celebrate Extra Butter’s arrival here — and the Adidas team in Germany were only too happy to oblige.

For this collaborative collection between the two brands, Extra Butter’s Co-Founders and brothers Ankur and Nick Amin wanted to tell an Indian story, one that they were nostalgic about. Cricket was a sport that both had a lot of fond childhood memories of; the brothers had grown up hearing about cricketing legends, such as Sunil Gavaskar and his exploits on the pitch and witnessed the sport’s elites, like Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar, put Indian cricket on the global stage.

Parallelly, Ankur and Nick were aware that Extra Butter’s debut in India would be about a month, or so, ahead of the 2023 Cricket World Cup and they both thought, “why not tell a story that focuses on Cricket?” After all, Cricket is woven into the fabric of Indian society. What was initially a leisurely pastime for the English upper classes, has evolved into an influential cornerstone of the country’s culture. The core values of Cricket, its principles, spirit and elegance continue to captivate our nation and are passed down through generations. With India’s hosting of the 2023 Cricket World Cup roughly coinciding with Extra Butter’s launch in Mumbai, the brand wanted to honour the nation’s love affair with the sport.

The centrepiece of this Extra Butter X Adidas collection is probably the Adidas Cable-Knit 2.0 SC Premiere model of shoes, in white and cricket-ball red. Incidentally, the original Cable-knit SC Premiere was designed by Extra Butter’s designers, Bernie Gross and Jeff Staple, along with Adidas’ design team and marked the first time ever that cable-knit fabric was used as an upper on a sneaker.

The 2.0 iteration of this iconic shoe takes inspiration from the heritage of Cricket — specifically the dignity and distinction of classic style that’s become a signature of the sport and continues to transcend into luxury and fashion. The design of the shoe is loaded with Easter eggs, and this is the first time the Adidas name appears in Hindi on the uppers of the shoe. Also, the design features the years that India has won the Cricket World Cup on the medial side of the shoe. Beyond that, there are a few hidden Easter eggs that customers will have to hunt for.

Additionally, the collection also features a range of apparel, including a stunning club blazer and pants, along with a vest and a full-sleeve sweater in the iconic cable knit material, that is synonymous with Cricket attire. The hero piece is a short-sleeved cable-knit button-up shirt that is sure to be a big hit. The creative teams at Extra Butter really added a lot of flavour to the story by focusing on the fashion element of Cricket — specifically the elegance and sophistication of the attire of the sport. There are also a variety of streetwear staples like T-shirts and caps to round off the collection.

Observing the passion surrounding Cricket in India and speaking about his growing interest in the sport, Extra Butter’s Creative Director, Bernie Gross, says, “I really loved deep diving into Cricket, a sport I knew virtually nothing about.  Seeing how people in India are so passionate about the sport is making me pay a little extra attention to Cricket.”

The products from this collaboration are now exclusively available at Extra Butter’s Mumbai flagship store at Utopia City, Lower Parel, and on the brand’s Indian e-commerce website.

An Indian Fashion Brand Committed to Size Inclusivity: Urbane Essence by Prerna Sinha

The brand Urbane-Essence goes a few steps beyond its literal meaning to perpetuate the spirit of the new-age India by redefining the new normal- The new age India that thrives on body inclusivity and debunking of societal norms and judgements. The new age India that confides in the freedom of dressing up. A feature by lifestyle columnist Riccha Grrover for Asian Lite International.

Saree, no doubt, is one of the oldest forms of clothing in India that dates back to the period of Indus Valley Civilization that flourished around 2800 BC in the Indian subcontinent. The six yards of pure elegance which used to be 8-9 yards in length back then was cordially embraced by the rich culture of ancient India and later became the quintessential clothing for women in the country.

But this profound love for sarees saw a massive fall when its western counterparts were introduced in the country. Women would choose comfort over elegance. The sarees would sit hopelessly in the wardrobes of modern women collecting dust for years waiting for that once in a blue moon moment.

Urbane Essence was started to celebrate the timelessness of this attire by making it mainstream once again, just like every other outfit in our wardrobes, because why not?!

Prerna graduated in history from one of the most prestigious colleges in India, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi, and went over to attain an MBA in HR & Marketing. Post that, worked for over a decade in HR roles in top MNCs and some of the most agile organizations in India.

In 2017, when she found herself struggling “to balance motherhood and a very high-pressure job. Every day was getting worse, trying to play the role of a mother & an ambitious professional. I was not feeling satisfied in any role, as balancing both was not so easy. This phase changed me as a person and helped me transition from HR to entrepreneurship. I went on to launch my own brand Urbane Essence and since then it’s been a joyful ride!”

With this brand you can explore sarees from different corners of the country! Handpicked.

Urbane Essence offers you sophisticated yet affordable drapes, the sarees which have retained the classics of Harappan time with a blende into the trends. You get only one of each Urbane Essence sarees, you can’t find another because of its rarity.

“We source Tussar sarees from towns like Bhagalpur in Bihar, Purulia in Bengal. Bengal Khadi, Kantha sarees and Balucheri are sourced from Bengal. We pick a lot of South silk from small towns in South India like Udupi, Mysore and more. Our forte lies in getting unique and animal designs (Zebra, Elephant, Squirrel, Fish and more) in Madhubani art form on sarees. Banarasi sarees from Benares in Uttar Pradesh and Chikankari work sarees from Lucknow are pretty much the most liked ones. We also source a lot of raw silk sarees from different parts of India, and Jaipuri cotton from parts of Rajasthan. Our aim is to bring different fabrics and designs from all over the country on one platform, and cater to both the Indian market and global.” said Prerna.

Drape an Urbane Essence saree and carry aspects of an era gone by and heritage with you as you express your new-age self.

Biibhu Mohapatra’s Love for India and Sustainable Fashion

The human touch, cultivated through time, is what defines luxury. It’s not about creating products that only serve for a short while – it has to be conscious and mindful process…speaks Bibhu Mohapatra

Like all good things, the five-day fashion event came to an end on Sunday. Over the past few days, several designers displayed their collections, and the runway was graced by a slew of Bollywood beauties. The final day concluded with New York-based designer Biibhu Mohapatra’s collection, ‘Come Home.’ He presented a series of exquisitely crafted ensembles inspired by the enduring spirit of Indian women – evening dresses, voluminous gowns, and blazers detailed with embellished motifs, metallic accents, sheer, and lace.

The Odisha-born designer roped in present and past Lakmé muses to walk for him such as Ananya Panday, Lisa Haydon, Bipasha Basu, and Simone Singh among a few others. In an exclusive interview with the master crafter spoke about his love for India, what inspires him, and his take on luxury and sustainable fashion.

Your thoughts on being the grand finale designer? How are you balancing it all?

It’s such an honour to be here. I am home, with my people who truly love and support me. I am surrounded by some of the most incredible talent, right from the models and the dynamic production team to the efficient people at Reliance brands and at Lakmé. When the support system is so great, there is really nothing to worry about.

What do you admire most about India?

It is the people who make this country what it is, and what is most admirable about them is their voracious appetite for life.

Where do you mostly look for inspiration?

People from across the world. One can learn so much from their diverse stories, cultures, and journeys. Also, travelling as it gives the kind of joy very few things can give. Because I reside in New York, there is always something new to explore.

How do you define luxury?

The human touch, cultivated through time, is what defines luxury. It’s not about creating products that only serve for a short while – it has to be conscious and mindful process.

Your take on sustainable fashion?

It is extremely necessary, and every bit of it counts. Every small step contributes to the broader aim, and this is how everyone working together can make a big difference.

What shift have you noticed in the Indian fashion industry in the last decade?

It is an exciting time for India and its brilliant designers. The country’s future is brighter than ever; its craft, resources, and smart minds will take over the global landscape. India’s creative economy is booming. As my friend Sujata Assomull puts it, the global South, especially, India is the market of the future.

A piece of advice for aspiring designers?

Work hard, tell an authentic story, keep going, and be nice. Being kind can go a long way!
