‘No probe into Prince Andrew over Epstein claims’

Andrew withdrew from frontline royal duties in late 2019 after public outrage at a BBC television interview in which he defended his friendship with Epstein…reports Asian Lite News

UK police said that no investigation has been launched into Prince Andrew after an anti-monarchy group filed a complaint based on recently released US court documents detailing people linked to accused sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

A New York judge on Wednesday began to unseal the identities of those linked in the documents to disgraced US financier Epstein, who killed himself in 2019 while awaiting trial.

In them, Andrew, who is formally known as the Duke of York, is accused of groping a woman, which he denies.

Republic, which wants an elected British head of state, said in a statement on Thursday that “we’ve just reported Andrew to the police.”

Opposition Labour leader Keir Starmer — a former chief state prosecutor — also said Friday that police should “look at” the new claims. But the Metropolitan Police said that “no investigation has been launched”.

“We are aware of the release of court documents in relation to Jeffrey Epstein,” it said in a statement. “As with any matter, should new and relevant information be brought to our attention we will assess it,” added the force.

Andrew withdrew from frontline royal duties in late 2019 after public outrage at a BBC television interview in which he defended his friendship with Epstein.

The former Royal Navy helicopter pilot, 63, in February 2022 settled a US civil case brought by Virginia Giuffre, who claimed he sexually assaulted her when she was 17.

Andrew’s mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, stripped him of his honorary military titles and patronages soon afterward, effectively shutting him out of royal life.

He has consistently denied sexual assault and even meeting Giuffre.

The Metropolitan Police announced in October 2021 that it had closed its review into Giuffre’s claims in the US civil action, stating that it would take “no further action”.

Clinton, Prince Andrew Named in Epstein Lawsuit Documents

Prince Andrew has however, denied the allegations and maintained that he had never met Giuffre…reports Asian Lite News

Former US President Bill Clinton and the UK’s Prince Andrew have been named in court documents detailing people who were connected to the late disgraced American financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to media reports.

More than 900 pages of unsealed documents from a lawsuit connected to Epstein, who died in jail in 2019 as he awaited federal sex-trafficking charges, were publicly released on Wednesday following an order by New York federal judge Loretta Preska.

This is the first set of files to be unsealed under a December 18, 2023 court order, with more expected in the coming weeks, reports CNN.

According to CNN, nearly 200 names are expected to surface, including some of Epstein’s accusers, prominent businesspeople, as well as politicians.

While ordering the release of the documents, Judge Preska said many of those named in the lawsuit had already been identified by the media or in the criminal trial of Epstein’s long-time associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year jail term for crimes she committed with the late financier, the BBC reported.

She added that many others did not raise an objection to the release of the documents.

The files include references to Johanna Sjoberg, who has claimed that Prince Andrew groped her while sitting on a couch inside Epstein’s Manhattan apartment in 2001.

The documents also contain excerpts of depositions taken of Maxwell and Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who was paid in millions by Prince Andrew to settle a lawsuit she had filed alleging that he sexually abused her when she was 17 years old.

Prince Andrew has however, denied the allegations and maintained that he had never met Giuffre.

Meanwhile, former President Clinton, who is also named in the documents, had travelled on Epstein’s plane on humanitarian trips to Africa, but he later cut ties with him.

The files include testimony from Maxwell confirming that Clinton had travelled on board Epstein’s private jet, but she did not know how many times.

According to the documents, when asked if Clinton was a friend of Epstein’s, Sjoberg had testified that she understood that the late sex offender had “dealings” with the former President.

She further said that Epstein had “told her one time that Clinton likes them young, referring to girls”.

Clinton’s representatives however, said that he “knows nothing” about Epstein’s crimes.

The documents also includes testimony from Sjoberg saying that Epstein told her he would contact former US President Donald Trump on their way to one of his New Jersey casinos, the BBC reported.

“Jeffrey said, ‘Great, we’ll call up Trump,'” she testified, after pilots said their plane could not land in New York and would need to stop in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

But the documents contained no alleged wrongdoing by Trump.

Epstein was indicted in 2019 on federal charges of operating a sex trafficking ring in which he allegedly sexually abused dozens of underage girls.

His death was ruled to be a suicide by the New York medical examiner.

Princes Harry, Andrew Pushed to third row

Both Harry, 38, the Duke of Sussex, and 63-year-old Andrew, the Duke of York, were in the royal ranks for the coronation at London’s Westminster Abbey, albeit without a formal role.

Princes Harry and Andrew attended the coronation of King Charles III but were relegated to the third row of the royal family seating — and did not join them later Saturday on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Charles’s younger son Harry and his American wife Meghan quit royal duties in 2020 and have since unleashed a string of barbed attacks on the monarchy.

Andrew, the king’s eldest brother, has been frozen out over his past association with the disgraced late US financier Jeffrey Epstein and a related sexual abuse allegation which was settled out of court.

But both Harry, 38, the Duke of Sussex, and 63-year-old Andrew, the Duke of York, were in the royal ranks for the coronation at London’s Westminster Abbey, albeit without a formal role. Andrew was driven in a state car from Buckingham Palace to the Abbey and part of the crowd in a grandstand in front of the palace booed as he went past.

Harry and Andrew walked into the abbey with other members of the Windsor family. It was the first time Harry has joined his family since subjecting them to a torrent of stinging criticism in his recent memoir “Spare” and in a series of television interviews.

Meghan has remained in California with the couple’s young children, thereby avoiding potentially awkward interactions with her in-laws.

Smiles in the abbey

Former British Army captain Harry, who served in Afghanistan, was wearing a morning suit with his medals, while Andrew — who flew Royal Navy helicopters in the 1982 Falklands War — wore his robes as a knight of the garter.

Harry was seen chatting with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, husband of his cousin Princess Beatrice, Andrew’s elder daughter. He also had a quick word with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, after entering the Great West Door.

Welby married Harry and Meghan at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May 2018. Both Harry and Andrew were seen smiling as they walked through the abbey to their seats.

They were both seated on the third row — out of keeping with their places in the line of succession to the throne.

Harry is fifth in line, following his brother Prince William, and William’s three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis of Wales.

Andrew is eighth in line, coming after Harry and his children — Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet of Sussex. Andrew sat at the end of the row next to Beatrice. Harry sat next to Jack Brooksbank, the husband of Andrew’s younger daughter Princess Eugenie, the cousin who is perhaps Harry’s closest ally in the family.

Balcony no-show

The pair were absent from the horse-drawn procession through central London back to Buckingham Palace, with Harry seen getting into a car to leave the abbey.

Saturday marks Archie’s fourth birthday, so Harry seemed to have made a swift exit back to his home in California. Neither he or Andrew appeared with the royal family on the Buckingham Palace balcony following the ceremony.

Andrew’s links with Epstein — boyfriend of the prince’s friend Ghislaine Maxwell — came back to haunt him. A US woman, Virginia Giuffre, said she was pressured to have sex with Andrew when she was 17 after being delivered by Epstein, who was convicted in 2008 of procuring a child for prostitution.

Andrew denied the allegations in a November 2019 BBC interview that nonetheless went down badly. Within days, he stepped back from his patronages and in May 2020 he permanently resigned from all public roles.

The case was settled out of court in February 2022, with Giuffre accepting a donation to her charity and no admission of liability from Andrew. He took part in events surrounding Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral but, beyond mourning his mother, Charles has shown no sign of allowing Andrew a return to public life.

Prince Andrew pulls out of Order of the Garter ceremony

He will still attend a private lunch with the Queen and other members of the order…reports Asian Lite News

The Duke of York has reportedly pulled out of a public appearance at Windsor Castle on Monday amid claims that he pushed for a return to royal duties as Prince Charles and Prince William asked the Queen not to give in to the disgraced royal, the Daily Mail reported.

Prince Charles had also asked the Queen to be reinstated as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, according to The Telegraph report.

However, Andrew– who missed the Jubilee celebrations a week ago because he had Covid – dramatically pulled out of Order of the Garter ceremony, despite being a member of the ancient order of chivalry.

He will still attend a private lunch with the Queen and other members of the order.

Buckingham Palace had insisted that Andrew would attend the ceremony, because the honour was given to him in a personal capacity by the Queen, according to Daily mail report.

Charles and William were said to have blocked Andrew from appearing at Order of the Garter ceremony after lobbying the Queen, according to The Sun.

Andrew, 62, was stripped of his official duties at the start of the year as he prepared to pay a multi-million-pound settlement to Virginia Roberts Giuffre to keep her allegations of sexual abuse, which he denies, out of court.

Andrew is the third child and second son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

In January, a New York judge ruled against the motion by Andrew’s legal team to dismiss a civil lawsuit brought against him by Virginia Giuffre. She alleged that she was trafficked by disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and forced to perform sex acts with the prince at the age of 17. Andrew has vigorously denied those claims.

Prince Andrew accuser name witnesses in sex assault lawsuit

In a separate filing, Giuffre’s lawyers told judge Kaplan that they wanted to question two witnesses based in Britain, including Shukri Walker…reports Asian Lite News

Prince Andrew will challenge his sexual assault accuser’s memory while her lawyers want to question a woman who purportedly saw him in a nightclub with a “young girl,” US court documents show.

Lawyers for Andrew and Virginia Giuffre, who has sued the British royal over alleged sexual abuse more than two decades ago, have named the first witnesses they hope to grill in the civil lawsuit.

Andrew’s attorneys said in a filing with a New York court late Friday that they were seeking testimony from Judith Lightfoot, Giuffre’s psychologist in her adopted home of Australia.

Lawyer Melissa Lerner said that the prince’s legal team want to quiz Lightfoot about what was discussed during her counseling sessions with Giuffre, who says she was trafficked to Andrew for sex in 2001.

Andrew’s team are seeking Lightfoot’s notes from the sessions and medical records, Lerner wrote in a formal “letter of request” submitted to US judge Lewis Kaplan that would compel testimony in Australia.

The prince’s lawyers argue that Giuffre “may suffer from false memories” and want to ask Lightfoot about the “theory of false memories,” the letter said.

They added that they also wished to question Robert Giuffre, who married the then Virginia Roberts in and around 2002. The couple live in Australia with their three children.

Lerner wrote that Giuffre’s husband would likely have information about her “alleged emotional and psychological harm and damages.” She said they also intended to ask him about Giuffre’s finances.

In a separate filing, Giuffre’s lawyers told judge Kaplan that they wanted to question two witnesses based in Britain, including Shukri Walker.

“(Walker) claims to have seen Prince Andrew at Tramp Nightclub in London with a young girl around the time that plaintiff contends Prince Andrew abused her in London after visiting Tramp Nightclub,” the wrote attorney Sigrid McCawley.

“Because Prince Andrew has denied ever meeting plaintiff or being at Tramp Nightclub during the relevant time period, Ms. Walker’s testimony is highly relevant,” she added.

Giuffre alleges that Andrew sexually assaulted her at the London home of Ghislaine Maxwell in March 2001 when she was 17 and a minor under US law.

She said the incident occurred after a night dancing at Tramp nightclub.

The prince has denied being at Tramp Nightclub with Giuffre, and has said he has no recollection of ever meeting her.

Giuffre, now 38, sued Andrew last year for unspecified damages, alleging that she was trafficked to him by Maxwell — who was convicted of sex trafficking last month — and the late disgraced money manager, Jeffrey Epstein.

As well as the London allegations, Giuffre also says Andrew assaulted her at Epstein’s home in New York, and on Epstein’s private island in the US Virgin Islands.

Andrew has repeatedly and strenuously denied the allegations and he has not been criminally charged.

Giuffre’s lawyers also want to interview Robert Olney, the prince’s former assistant, who they say “has relevant information” about Andrew’s relationship with Epstein.

Andrew was on Thursday stripped of his honorary military titles and charitable roles after judge Kaplan earlier in the week denied his plea to dismiss Giuffre’s case.

Prince Andrew, Virginia Giuffre formally end lawsuit

Giuffre’s case had focused on Andrew’s friendship with the late Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and sex offender who the 38-year-old Giuffre said also sexually abused her…reports Asian Lite News

Prince Andrew formally requested a dismissal of Virginia Giuffre’s lawsuit accusing him of sexually abusing her when she was underage, as Britain’s finance ministry confirmed that no public funds were used in their settlement.

Andrew and Giuffre filed a joint stipulation of dismissal in Manhattan federal court, where it is expected to win approval from U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan.

The Feb. 15 settlement included an undisclosed payment, with Andrew, the second son of Queen Elizabeth, making a “substantial donation” to Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights. Andrew, the Duke of York, did not admit wrongdoing in agreeing to settle the civil lawsuit.

He has not been accused of criminal wrongdoing. The finance ministry issued its comment after The Sun, a British tabloid, said Andrew’s older brother Prince Charles was bankrolling most of the settlement, with the queen chipping in.

Giuffre’s case had focused on Andrew’s friendship with the late Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and sex offender who the 38-year-old Giuffre said also sexually abused her.

Andrew, 62, denied Giuffre’s accusations that he forced her to have sex when she was 17 at the London home of Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s mansion in Manhattan, and Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The allegations and Andrew’s relationship with Epstein severely damaged the prince’s reputation, forcing Queen Elizabeth’s second son to give up his royal patronages and no longer be known as “His Royal Highness.”

Epstein killed himself at age 66 in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Maxwell is seeking a new trial after being convicted in December of recruiting and grooming underage girls for Epstein to abuse.

Prince Andrew settles sex assault lawsuit

The prince has not been criminally charged and has denied the allegations…reports Asian Lite News

Prince Andrew and his longtime accuser Virginia Giuffre have settled a sexual assault lawsuit for an undisclosed sum, a US court filing showed Tuesday, sparing the disgraced British royal the public humiliation of a trial.

In a letter sent to a New York judge on behalf of both parties, Giuffre’s lawyer David Boies wrote that they “have reached an out of court settlement,” without revealing the financial terms.

As part of the agreement, the British royal will make a “substantial donation” to a charity established by Giuffre that supports sex trafficking victims, Boies said.

Giuffre has said she had sex with Andrew when she was 17 and a minor under US law after meeting him through the late US financier Jeffrey Epstein, who committed suicide in prison while awaiting trial for sex crimes.

The prince has not been criminally charged and has denied the allegations.

The settlement means the civil case will not go to a jury trial. It also means Andrew, 61, will no longer be questioned under oath by Giuffre’s lawyers, who had been due to travel to London next month.

Boies said in the document filed in a Manhattan court that the respective parties would file a stipulation dismissing the case within 30 days upon “receipt of the settlement.”

The letter makes no mention of Giuffre’s accusations. Neither does it admit any guilt on behalf of Andrew or refer to the repeated denials he has made.

It said that Andrew “regrets his association with Epstein, and commends the bravery of Ms. Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others.”

“Prince Andrew has never intended to malign Giuffre’s character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks.

“He pledges to demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims,” the letter added.

The controversy has embarrassed the British monarchy and overshadowed Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee year in which she marks 70 years on the throne.

Last month, Andrew was stripped of his honorary military titles and charitable roles after US judge Lewis Kaplan denied his plea to dismiss Giuffre’s case.

Former prosecutor-turned law professor Bennett Gershman said the settlement was “very good news” for Andrew because it gets him out of testifying while not having to acknowledge any improper conduct towards Giuffre.

Lawyer Lisa Bloom, who represents eight of Epstein’s victims, hailed the settlement as a “victory” for Giuffre, however.

“She has accomplished what no one else could: getting Prince Andrew to stop his nonsense and side with sexual abuse victims,” Bloom tweeted.

Private island

Giuffre, now 38, alleged that Andrew sexually assaulted her at the London home of socialite and Epstein friend Ghislaine Maxwell after a night out dancing in March 2001.

She sued the prince last year for unspecified damages under New York’s Child Victims’ Act, alleging that she was trafficked to him by Epstein and Maxwell.

In December, Maxwell was convicted of recruiting and grooming young girls to be sexually abused by Epstein, exposing a murky world of sex trafficking among the rich and powerful.

As well as the London allegations, Giuffre also said Andrew assaulted her at Epstein’s home in New York, and on Epstein’s private island in the US Virgin Islands.

Epstein, 66, was a high-profile financier who befriended countless celebrities.

His death in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 was ruled a suicide by New York’s chief medical examiner but sparked conspiracy theories that he had been killed to protect wealthy associates.

Andrew, Queen Elizabeth II’s second son, withdrew from public life as a royal in 2019 after a widely ridiculed BBC interview where he defended his relationship with Epstein and sought to vindicate himself of Giuffre’s accusation.

The conciliatory language in Tuesday’s statement was in stark contrast to October, when Andrew’s lawyers accused Giuffre of seeking to profit from a “baseless lawsuit.”

Prince Andrew seeks jury trial in sex assault case

She sued the prince last year for unspecified damages, alleging that she was trafficked to him by Epstein and Maxwell…reports Asian Lite News

Prince Andrew is seeking a jury trial to clear his name in the sexual assault civil complaint he is fighting in New York, his lawyers announced Wednesday.

“Prince Andrew hereby demands a trial by jury on all causes of action asserted in the complaint,” his attorney wrote in a motion filed at a Manhattan federal court.

His accuser, Victoria Giuffre, has said she had sex with the prince when she was 17 and a minor under US law after meeting him through the late US financier Jeffrey Epstein, who committed suicide in prison two years ago while awaiting trial for sex crimes.

The prince has not been criminally charged and has denied the allegations, which have left him in disgrace and forced him to withdraw from royal duties.

Earlier this month Andrew was stripped of his honorary military titles and charitable roles after Judge Lewis Kaplan denied his plea to dismiss Giuffre’s case, making a civil trial in New York more likely.

Giuffre, who is now 38, alleges that Andrew sexually assaulted her at the London home of socialite and Epstein friend Ghislaine Maxwell after a night out dancing in March 2001.

She sued the prince last year for unspecified damages, alleging that she was trafficked to him by Epstein and Maxwell.

Maxwell was convicted of sex trafficking last month.

The motion filed on Wednesday, which contested each point in Guiffre’s complaint, reiterated that “Prince Andrew denies that he was a co-conspirator of Epstein or that Epstein trafficked girls to him.”

As well as the London allegations, Giuffre also says Andrew assaulted her at Epstein’s home in New York, and on Epstein’s private island in the US Virgin Islands.

Lawyers for Andrew and Giuffre named the first witnesses they hope to grill in the lawsuit in mid-January.

Andrew’s attorneys said in a filing that they were seeking testimony from Judith Lightfoot, Giuffre’s psychologist in her adopted home of Australia.

Lawyer Melissa Lerner said that the prince’s legal team want to quiz Lightfoot about what was discussed during her counseling sessions with Giuffre.

The prince’s lawyers argue that Giuffre “may suffer from false memories” and want to ask Lightfoot about the “theory of false memories,” Lerner wrote in a formal “letter of request” submitted to Kaplan that would compel testimony in Australia.

In a separate filing, Giuffre’s lawyers told judge Kaplan that they wanted to question two witnesses based in Britain, including Shukri Walker, who claims to have seen Andrew at the nightclub in London with a young girl around the time of the alleged assault.

Andrew, the second son of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, withdrew from public life as a royal in 2019 after a widely ridiculed BBC interview where he sought to vindicate himself of the accusation.

In other signs of social ostracism since, Andrew last week deactivated his social media accounts and the York Racecourse in northern England has announced it is renaming an event called The Duke of York Stakes — even though this refers to an earlier bearer of the title.

Prince Andrew quits social media over sex assault case

His accuser Victoria Giuffre has said that she had sex with the prince while aged 17 after meeting him through the late US financer and convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein…reports Asian Lite News

Queen Elizabeth II’s second son Prince Andrew has deactivated his social media accounts, users said Wednesday, as he faces a US civil case for sexual assault.

Andrew’s official Twitter account @TheDukeOfYork now opens with a message saying “This account doesn’t exist”.

His YouTube account also comes up with an error message and a picture of a monkey.

The prince’s Instagram and Facebook pages appeared still to be open, though the Instagram was set to private.

The Daily Mail cited a source close to the 61-year-old prince as saying these accounts have also been removed and are no longer live.

This comes after announcements last week that the prince has ceased using his HRH, or His Royal Highness, title, and has also given up honorary military titles bestowed by the Queen.

The move effectively removes him from official royal life.

His accuser Victoria Giuffre has said that she had sex with the prince while aged 17 after meeting him through the late US financer and convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The prince denies the allegations but lost a bid to dismiss the civil suit.

Andrew withdrew from public life as a royal in 2019 after a widely ridiculed BBC interview where he sought to vindicate himself of the accusation that he sexually assaulted a minor.

Since then he has been occasionally photographed driving or riding around the Queen’s private estate in eastern England, Sandringham.

He did not appear in the official wedding photographs when his daughter Beatrice got married in 2020.

In other signs of social ostracism, the York Racecourse in northern England has announced it is renaming an event called The Duke of York Stakes — even though this refers to an earlier bearer of the title.

And a police station in Devon in southern England has removed a plaque saying it was opened by the Duke of York, citing a complaint from a member of the public, the BBC reported this week.

Armed forces minister James Heappey on Wednesday said Andrew had kept “horrifically ill-advised” company, and the US case would overshadow celebrations later this year for his mother’s 70 years on the throne.

The decision to strip former Royal Navy helicopter pilot Andrew of his honorary military titles was reportedly made by the Queen and senior members of the royal family.

His nephew, second-in-line to the throne Prince William was asked by a reporter on Wednesday if he supported his uncle, during a visit to a London museum.

But William made no response. William’s father, Prince Charles, ignored a similar question last week.
